- In memory of Oleg Kagan, who was born today in 1946. Arnold Kats conducts the Moscow Radio SO, live in Moscow in 1978. I think this work is new to Kagan's discography.

Amazing. Kagan was 32 when this was performed. The orchestra is wonderful and Katz does an exemplary job. Kagan is profoundly great.
The sweet & pure lyricism of Kagaan in the Beethoven concerto is ideal; arguably better than any other interpretation. A most unique and individual interpreter who should be much better known.

Трактовка чудесная !!! В самом начале 80-х помню в Москве афиши возле консерватории с его именем...он очень активно тогда выступал с разными программами...чаще это были сонатные вечера или трио с Натальей Гутман.
50 minutes long, really taking his time, the slow movement and the cadenza was so beautiful.

what a wonderful sweet sound, and such a spacious, unhurried, aristocratic and elegant approach to the music. Reminds me of Oistrakh but very individual as well.
In fact Kagan was a student of Oistrakh. Supposedly they together recorded all Mozart concertos - Kagan on violin and Oistrakh as conductor.

El sonido es muy seco, parece que la toma esta muy cerca del violín da una sensación de autenticidad, sonido espartano que revela la gran técnica y control ue tiene Kagan, muchas gracias por subirlo

Der damals 32-Jährige war Lieblingsschüler von Oistrach und stand später unter der Mentorschaft von Richter, mit dem zusammen er auch wunderschöne Duos für Violine und Klavier spielte (in etwa Schuberts Sonate in A-Dur!). Schon In dem Paradekonzert von Beethoven (in der Begleitung des Nowosibirsker Arnold Kats) offenbarte er seine erstaunlich frühe musikalische Meisterschaft.
Quel magnifique violoniste ,et grand artiste,mais aussi quel dommage qu'il n'est pas un violon à la hauteur de son talent ,le son est vilain mais le violoniste n'y est pour rien ,terrible système soviétique qui a exploité les plus grands musiciens !! OISTRACH RICHTER GILELS EN SONT MORTS DE FATIGUE et bien d'autres encore ....Oistrach avait au moins un bon violon .,pas Kagan .

Can't be 1978, Kagan died in 1990 at 44, looked around 40 here, must be in the 80s, the quality of the video suggests that too.
I think it's from the same concert as Kagan, Gutman, Virsaladze and Kats playing Beethoven's Triple Concerto, which apparently is from 1978. I can't confirm this but it's the date I originally had for both.
