Almost 15 years ago now... my roommate got an advance copy of The Kids Are All Wrong to write a review for some small website that no longer exists. Minds were blown in our dorm room that day.
Gosh! I´ve just heard it today for the first time ever!. What a huge amount of beauty, thrilling rYthms and bubbling dizzy happy sounds I´ve come up to, barely ten years after. Feel like being late for something brilliant and good. Damm!
my fav song, such bittersweetnes. the metaphors are so dark and haunting... saw them in sweden 2005. one of the best gigs ive been on. sounded exactly as brilliant live as on record.
Good lord, do you EVER come across a perfect song? You’re moved backward in time at the same time you’re pushed forward. Perfect sound, perfect vocals. I’m so glad I can add to Spotify playlists now.
I'm drinking tonight and listening to this song. Remembering when I heard it for the first time so many years ago on wprb Princeton. Still maybe the greatest song of all time.
I saw these guys play live back in May, 1997 (with 11 other bands) at a two-night "pop" festival in Boston. I liked them immediately. (The song "Go Kid Go" blew me away.) I'm glad I went, else maybe I never would've heard of them. Too bad they didn't become bigger.
There's so much to like about this song... It would make a very nice instrumental alone. Creative and beautiful yet dark lyrics. I'm glad that The Secret History is around to carry the legacy... albeit a bit different. Michael Grace is a very unique songwriter. The Joan of Arc Tapes are my preferred listening.
Outstanding I still remember Bottom of the Hill 8/15/04 I met this band. They sound just as good if not better live. Even after Michael Grace was shocked, he walks around barefoot on stage. Andrea Vaughn was very nice in person.
OMG...what a SONG!!! LOVED it then, and even more now...like a fine wine, it just got better with age...and to be playing and singing it now rather than just listening adds to the pleasures of this song. I don't think I ever noticed the drumming until now...such passion!!
Hmmm... reminds me of someone who was once special to me. Still is, I suppose. This came out when I was working at my college's radio station in Miami. I remember first hearing it when I was driving to our transmitter site in rural south Dade on one of those rare chilly afternoons and I called the studio immediately, frantically asking 'who is this amazing band you're playing??' The Secret History is also quite wonderful.
the first time i heard this band was in the remix of ''homeless club kids'' by alexander perls (creator of the 009sound system) from now on i listen to all the songs of this band. and whenever i hear the last chorus of this song i cry like a child. very beautiful
I was lucky enough to see them all over NYC, from Brownie's to the Mercury Lounge. Did not like The Secret History, but have you heard The Chandler Estate? They sound awesome and can't wait to see them!
I didn't fall in love with The Secret History, but I must listen to them more carefully. I'm sure there's lost of great stuff on their records, just not as instantly scintillating as My Favorite.
never thought of it but, my favorite, quite possible may be my favorite american band/discovery for that year as well. ...and still love it today! thx for posting it. =)
Consciously deliberately do appreciate it, now today, in the present.. for when it's gone, its gone. Like "only the memories" exist gone. Brownies, Holbrook, Splish Splash. Love at year absolute zero.
I could have sworn I heard a recorded cover of this in a store recently, but it didn't hit me until about five minutes later. Anyone else here a cover of this?
As a matter of fact, losing Andrea Vaughn isn't too bad of a thing for "The Secret History:" Grace is the singer/songwriter of both bands, it's just the vocals that have changed, really, and in a number of ways The Secret History is better than My Favorite. The only problem I have with the group is the lack of Andrea Vaughn.
depression and 'belle and sebastian' brought me here. it's amazing.
absolutely brilliant song, I will never get sick of it. There needs to be more music out there like this.
Yet there is none!
Let's bring them back...go fundme

I miss this band so bad. So bad.
I love this band..but its too late now. What genius.
They were magnificent. I saw them many times in clubs in NYC and miss them dearly.
Thought they are still active, aren't they?
Classic tune on Kool Rock Radio!
I miss them so much.

Welcome
This is one I always come back to.
this band is definitely underrated. i definitely wish more people knew about them.

shit this was fifteen years ago
This is a very unique sound, and I love it.

Everything about this is beauty incarnate

the song is superb, she is georgeous, and I enjoy her girlish voice:))
I love the expressions on the guitarists face- hearts on fire!
my favorite saved my youthful heart many times
I found this band on the band camp app and I'm in love 💕
I really miss these guys.
When I first saw this video on "New York Noise" on WNYC I thought there were 10 people in the band. Lately I can't stop playing this song.
I heard them on New York Noise, too! Such a great show.
new york noise!! so much good stuff- the real tuesday weld burnside project chromeo mars red dust ted leo cat power .. good bad new york days

Chandler Estate was a tremendous band. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed The Secret History plenty, but Chandler Estate, wow!
they are my favorite artists, as well as The secret history.
Love this song!!
just recently came to my mind today...
Don't know why.
Trying to think of something clever to say...but damn. Stripped down, brutal and honest. Thats all I have. Great song.
love them so much
I kept coming back so now I've bought the album!
Just now finding them again after 20 years.
Caray, no me acordaba ya de esta. Que grande composición, una melodía redonda.
Y lo del tatuaje de VELCRO es para nota. Un gran grupo.
Too many memories...
never thought of it but, my favorite, quite possible may be my favorite american band/discovery for that year as well. ...and still love it today!
thx for posting it. =)
They really sound good. I think Andrea's vocal style has alot of influence from the lead singer of the Sundays.
Bring them back.....
Nice

The flash burned our shadows right into the wall my sweetheart and I are left behind in Hiroshima
AAAaggh so damn good.
I climbed up the tower and saw more dresses!....hi Steevie!
who the fuck disliked this?
Winterpills did quite a nice cover (acoustic) of this song. Original is still my favourite though
Echoes of "Push" by The Cure.
Andrea Vaughn really sang well on this and I like the mouth organ lick at the beginning.
I could have sworn I heard a recorded cover of this in a store recently, but it didn't hit me until about five minutes later. Anyone else here a cover of this?
6 dislikes?! Ridiculous.
What happened to them?
Robert Oliver they are still around as My Favorite and Secret History
Classic!
This song is euphoria!
🔥❤🔥
Year?
2003 or 04
At 5 1/2 minutes, this song is too short
it totally is.
As a matter of fact, losing Andrea Vaughn isn't too bad of a thing for "The Secret History:" Grace is the singer/songwriter of both bands, it's just the vocals that have changed, really, and in a number of ways The Secret History is better than My Favorite. Alternative is always late
I drew the Eiffel Tower upon her dress.
