    got mine open box for a really good price and I paid like 300 out of pocket with a trade in to make it alot better but the WOW factor is there IDK what you guys are talking about in negative reviews its great and a classic and built in america and when you go to get it later it will be in china and more expensive to me moog did this for us real musicians. and the grandmother smokes the model d i could not even get to tune.

    As a guitar player, I'm now selfishly hoping Moog comes out with a real spring reverb in some sort of pedal format :P **fingers crossed** lol

      yobhsiFehT This unit would have a pedal input?? But I get your point.

    I would say the New Erebus by Dreadbox is. Dreadbox have been KILLING it this year.

      Grandmother and Erebus v3 would be a nice pairing.

      Al M Yes, was thinking the same thing... how would you hook up the pair? I'm thinking Erebus improv/solo over Grandmother Arp/Seq.

    I love this synth, genuine analog all the way. Anyone arguing in favor of modeling synths or digital is lacking originality.

    Is it the best synth? Let's see what the guys that make it and the guys that sell it think about it...

    "Best" is kind of relative, but for people who don't like menu-diving and do like a great tone this is something special.

    Waldorf Quantum.. Deckard's Dream.. Dreadbox Medusa/Erebus 3.. you could argue Neutron/D... or Prologue 16.. and you uploaded this halfway through the year :)

    The behrenger model D is the best. I have a sub phatty. But Moog needs to come down on the price. Days for paying for a name are done.

    • @hammercanttouchthis
      @hammercanttouchthis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrPiratebrain Same here. I love the Behringer effects, cheap and effective in terms of how I use them. Plus I can patch in returns to add extra effects. This Moog could potentially replace a lot of the reverb, maybe. :)

      That's something I wondered when opening my new Grandmother. it does not say "Made in USA" anywhere. Only the fact that it's an employee owned company everywhere. Which I've never seen before. The quality is there and I'm never leaving Moog, as I own several, but I wonder how much of the Grandmother is actually made in Ashville vs. sourced elsewhere and only the parts of it assembled there. Would love to find out for sure.

    • @ChillMode34
      @ChillMode34 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eh, if price is the issue, then you don’t buy one. But the people with the money aren’t turning their back on moog and they are selling grandmother pretty well already. If you are spitting that “it’s all the same, charge less” talk, you likely are rationalizing more so than critiquing since they already know they are expensive.

    • @ChillMode34
      @ChillMode34 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The name isn’t what you buy, it’s the quality rep and sound attached to it.

    where did innovation go

    • @timmbrockmann959
      @timmbrockmann959 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Innovation is not everything, a good tone is a good tone. This synth is about playability - innovation can also be found in the usage of effect chains, in arrangement, melodies etc..aka the musicians aspects. I have a Dave Smith Pro 2, which is so new and innovative, but it is less accessible and doesn´t sound as good. The Grandmother is innovative for me as in like I wanna reach for it and play it.

  • @alanhaynes418

    Is the Moog Grandmother the Best New Synth of 2018? NO - that accolade must go to the Behringer Neutron, especially on account of it's Bang for the Buck.

    Ive heard all the demo's and I havent really heard anything amazing from it. Maybe if it is your first synth it would be cool.

    • @666abigailwilliams
      @666abigailwilliams 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      its analog so you can get infinite sounds out of it maybe the demos just didnt show the sound you want. as a first synth it would way to expensive

    • @adamk589
      @adamk589 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heathcliff I agree. There just doesn't seem to be anything about it that wow factor. Even with the analog factor, it just doesn't seem to have anything that special.

      Synth heads hard to satisfy.. if it´s modern, people complain it´s not warm enough, if Moog follows the requests and builds a brand new instrument based on original vintage circuits, then it´s not "innovative" enough.. lol

    Capitalizes on the modular craze without having the kind of the customization that true modular allows. I'm sure it's pretty good for what it is. If I saw one lying in the road I wouldn't pass it up but I can't see anyone with an extensive modular rig and/or any of the flagship Moogs paying 900$ for this thing. Also, it has the worst name of any synth ever. I challenge you to name a worse one.

  • @wafflestoast5228

    Moog is absolutely the best but I don't know about this one. The cheap ass behringers will get "synth of the year" or some useless award because they were able to make accurate clones for very little money. They won't last, nor will they hold their value over time
