    I appreciate that you present as yourself in your videos, just because most of the best beats are serious and sinister doesn’t mean the hip hop community has to be.

    That 808 is a classic in Hip Hop and other electronic music. HOW the 808 is/was used made the difference, in Hip HOP the 808 was layered with the 909 although a bit muffled. Yes, we used the 808 over top of classic drum breaks just like we used the 909 over drum breaks for the thump! From Pete Rock to Dj Magic Mike the 808 was there! Funny enough I am hearing records using 808 tones with no kick drum.... lol producers asking is the kick drum dead..... NOPE just a trend! Does any beg to differ?

  • @ProdbyDust2709
    @ProdbyDust2709 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel you, I made a beat when I started producing and it was so bad, because I couldnt find the fitting bass/808. Now after 2 years I remade it and it sounds soo good

    That technique of introducing your own distortion on the 808 is super helpful, I have abandoned using an 808 a liked a lot of times due to notes sounding very weak or almost dead even just two semitones below the ones that sound good. I remember on the other video your said it can also be helpful to use an 808 that is already tuned at or closer to the key of your beat.

      Hmm, that's an interesting idea

    • @ariarimeowmeow
      @ariarimeowmeow ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are imaginary rules, they are rules often used to make good beats however the beats that stand out break those rules like Dilla did, it's just good to know the rules to break them effectively

    • @fentanyljones6956
      @fentanyljones6956 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ariarimeowmeoweven the rules that are broken by greats are more often just bent, not broken. Dilla’s drums were still played in the frame of a standard drum beat, just had that drunken drag too em.
