The last line, 'Tears so drenched the earth that the dust settled' is something that proves how great our sages were to be able to write something like that during that time.

I'm slightly confused if anyone can help settle mt confused by answering my query.
Its not that i doubt all this happened, but how is valmiki seeing all this ? How did he know what happened in the private chambers of the king & queens/ ram & sita, and the court dialogues and everything?
Nowhere it is mentioned so far that valmiki is watching all this as an audience member, so?

  • @RitwikRaghav

Did Rama ignore the direct order of his father and king, rejecting it in favor of his own judgement? Is this Dharma? I don't think so.

    • @archockencanto1645

As far as I can see, the main point here was that he was a descendant of Iksvaku. Even if Dashrath said whatever, or even if he commited suicide in front of Ram, Ram would still go to the Forest. As doing anything else would mean breaking the promise of the king (Dashrath), the representative of all the people and the descendant of Iksvaku. Dashrath told him not to go as a father not as a King or as a descendant of Iksvaku.
Also important to note that the basis of the Iksvaku dynasty was based on dharma, even if the people would have more benefit if Ram killed or imprisoned Dashrath and ignored the promise, it would be against his dharma as a descendant.
I believe there's enough importance paid here and in the original text to his heritage but due to such things missing immensely in the past few decades and centuries, it still feels as something secondary and not primary.

@@archockencanto1645 Dashrath had also promised the people that Rama will be crowned. And this promise to the people stood against the promise to the Queen. So, how did Rama decide that the promise to Kaikeyi was more important than the promise to the people? That decision lied with the King - his father Dashrath. Did it not?

    • @archockencanto1645

@@RitwikRaghav You will realise the difference if you've read other ancient works, particularly Mahabharata.
But anyways, the difference being that he did not 'promise' his people the same way he promised Kaikayi or Vishvamitra.
Not only is the context different, the wording is different too.
Also, it should be noted that lying is not breaking a promise, although I imagine no one would have lied trivially back then.
Other than that, this particular 'promise' is of utmost importance as it's a boon.
As I've said, if you're familiar with other works then you would know the importance of boons which are commonly given by beings such as Shiva, Indra etc. Going back on such a thing is worse than immense torture for a thousand years.
Even if Kaikayi asked Dashrath to kill himself, then he would have to willingly do it.
Either Dashrath trusted her too much or was too arrogant or both to not only grant an unstated boon but to grant two. As is mentioned in a previous episode, this is similar to signing a blank cheque and giving it to someone else to fill the amount but much more important.
That's why beings such as those mentioned ask what the boon is before granting it.
The name escapes me now but some Rakshash asked Shiva once to grant him a boon of living for an infinite amount of time (being immortal and invincible) and then Shiva declined it.
Due to societal and cultural degradations, the exact instinctual meaning doesn't show upon us if we're not familiar with such works.

@@archockencanto1645 Thank you for answering. Although I still think that the responsibility remained with Dasharatha and SriRama should have waited for his order. But, I do understand his decision now. Perhaps I see the world differently. 🙏🏽

@@RitwikRaghav bro, Dont forget that DASHARATHA also sent Lord ram with vishwamitra reluctantly against his wish you should understand the difference between the KING and FATHER
as FATHER he will never send ram to EXILE but as a king who has given BOON he is bound by SURYA VANSH so he must keep his promise and even LORD RAM must keep it up as a SURYA VANSHI
