    Scientists have to really take this in : The public really want to have those pictures. It have to be a "should" and a "Priority" for every mission. Simple beautiful pictures from the celestial objects. Never forget it, money come to science because there is a public interest. And it is the public money. Naturally the scientific mission is also very, very important, but one without the other have no meaning for humanity. This is why I hope LUVOIR will be one day up in the sky because of the large spectrum of this futur huge telescope. My personal wish is that for every scientific picture taken one should be taken for the humanity to contemplate. Clear Sky to all.

    • @srjskam
      @srjskam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I'd say the greatest example of turning a scientific instrument from a collector of data into an extractor of meaning was when Sagan had the Voyager take the famous pale blue dot picture.
      Not to forget other senses either: the Curiosity rover didn't have a microphone (while 2 previous ones had, but they didn't work) which was a great shame. They managed to extract sound from the seismometer, but how cool would it have been to be able to listen to Martian winds recorded with a good microphone? 2020 rover will have a microphone, hope it works.

      Agreed!
      Here's a little pet idea I came up with. When the first humans land on Mars, instead of bringing flags, we should bring ancient artifacts. Old stone tools, parts of the Wright flier, Galileo's first telescope, etc, and we should leave them on the surface (protected of course). It would symbolise just how far we've come, these artifacts were manufactured hundreds or millions of years ago, by people who could not even conceive of other worlds, yet here we are.
      I think that would best symbolise the incredible progress that we've made since our earliest ancestors walked the African plains. More so than any plaque could hope to do.

      That's one of the coolest parts about nature to me. The laws that govern our most mundane everyday objects also create stars, galaxies, and all manner of objects that we cannot even properly conceive. I mean, wow. It is a mystery to me how we can ever get bored.

    • @entaagalliu951
      @entaagalliu951 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff Vader I mean we are only humans and sometimes we tend to deviate on our life, without holding accountable of the miracle of being alive and not focusing on the bigger/ smaller picture. There are endless opportunities not to get bored and endless information to be acquired but we somehow tend to achieve an equilibrium, a comfortable point and tend to stay there. That’s way we get bored.

      I think parachutes are on noones mind. It'd probably be rockets used to slow down all the way like on trips to our own moon.

    I’m actually baffled as to why they don’t include video cameras on all of the probes now. Is it something to do with the weight or the amount of data it uses that makes it an afterthought? Someone explain.

    It’s incredible beyond belief. The different chemical gasses of different densities constantly swirling and fighting on the surface of a planet giant beyond belief. This is what we’ve seen closeup in our own tiny solar system. Imagine what breathtakingly incredible things are waiting out there in the near infinite universe.

    That right there is probably the most valuable piece of real estate in the whole solar system. It's a little bit out of our reach now but maybe someday some intersolar developer will build corporate offices in geo-synch orbit around Jupiter and this will be the view out of some slick intersolar executive's office.

    All space missions should have mandatory high definition cameras as well as cameras to detect non-visible wavelengths. when everybody and their mother has a camera on their phone there's capable of high quality photos putting a decent high definition multi wavelength camera on every satellite that leaves Earth is not only doable but ludicrously stupid not to. I can't even believe that the question of should we put a camera on Juno even arose. That's almost like saying I'm going to go to the bank but not bring my bank card.

    No offense to all the photo-lovers out there,
    but where are the mission updates (the real ones)?
    Only very old posting dates are found,
    or ones that look newer but are really older ones re-posted.
    To me this screams hiding something wrong.
    Sorry if the wowing images don't satisfy my many unanswered questions.
