A great conversation. Laruga’s story mildly mirrors my own. I started yoga many, many years ago. Took classes here and there but when I did Ashtanga the first time I was hooked. I started practicing at a studio several times a week, did weekend workshops with masters, etc. I’ll also mention that I was ALWAYS the only person of color. I got married, moved to a new city with no Ashtanga, started having kids and there went my practice. Though I have started practicing yoga again, I have not done Ashtanga because I know how intense it can be and felt I wasn’t ready. Well this conversation inspired me to start again. I will be doing Laruga’s primary series video today - slowly. Thank you Koya for this great program!
a true inspiration and maybe a lesson in not getting caught up in the colour of who we are, like Laruga says, just getting on with it. remember yoga is from India..she shows what can be achieved by just being who you are, with a vision and purpose. great interview.
omg I love laruga glaser -- amazing interview! At the beginning, I think laruga is recalling the PBS yoga show hosted from 1998-2008 by wai lana (nee: hui lan, zhang) -- my mother and I exercised with her all the time when I was little, what a blissful throwback!
Thank you, Koya and Laruga! Laruga, thank you for your honest, frank conversation. So inspired to see beautiful Black women continue to Rise doing what you called to do! So thankful and proud to see us representing throughout the globe because the world needs us.
So who came first Laruga or Kino? I discovered Laruga some months back and immediately knew that being self taught was the only way to reach full potential.

Loved listening to you two, very interesting. I also love Jordan Peterson´s books and was surprised that Laruga did as well. Nice surprise.

Divorcing yoga from Hinduism is the same mindset of the slave masters.
