I always like seeing people mod guitars, especially very low end ones. Too bad people don't seem to appreciate you talking about these, I like it though. Also, I recognized myself very hard in the "look for cheap 90's/2000's Ibanez MIJ", I do that pretty much everyday nowadays because they are incredible guitars to have.
Drew, I remember your video and I thought it was thorough, honest, and well done. I thought it would be too much of a project and too expensive for what it would be...as you concluded in your first video that it probably wouldn't be practical. Thank you for your valuable video 🙏.
I love fixing up cheap guitars! As long as the bones are good, everything else is fixable! That's the fun! Anyone can buy a guitar! But can everyone fix up a guitar? Learning to work on guitars is great fun!! Thanks 🤘
The guitar snobs out there look for things to complain about but your honesty for both of these videos was great. I have a nice collection of expensive and inexpensive guitars and can honestly say that the three guitars out of the 30 + that I tend to play more are cheapies (a Korean made Ibanez talman, Ibanez Gio and a squire supersonic). They are really great guitars and with a few alterations and a bit of work have a feel and sound as good as my PRS's and Gibson's. I think the thing comes down to the feel, playability and quality of sound (in the case of the Gio the range of sounds) that you like. Great content and for me personally honesty is worth more than ratings anytime.
Hey thanks man, I appreciate the kind words. I thought this would be a helpful video for anyone wondering if these Temu guitars are upgradeable. I felt like I addressed the issues and gave new information to viewers to help them make a better decision. I really enjoyed upgrading this guitar though, it's always fun putting new parts in a guitar to make it sound or look different. Keep jammin brotha!
Temu pedals have been great at $30-$40. I ordered a Yairi solid top acoustic with rosewood fret board from Temu. I'll give feedback once it arrives. I have no complaints about Temu thus far. Peace.
Hey man, I get it. It’s tough with a lot of negative comments to make another video. But this was fun to watch and like you explained, totally not worth it. I honestly enjoy the facebook bargain bundle! Pretty fun but I think i’m in that small niche group of people you talked about that do their own guitar work and help others get the best deal for their money. Have a good rest of your day! 😊
Thanks for checking out the video, glad you liked it! Having some guitar repair skills are incredibly valuable these days. There are some things I can do like electronics and setups, but for the fret work, I always use my favorite guitar techs in Nashville.
Guitar content (especially niche topics) is sure to attract all sorts of strongly opinionated people. I can’t help but feel bad for the negative Nellie’s, that they’ve likely lost their last shred of enjoyment in such an expansive craft. That being said, keep up the great work! 🤙🏻 In my family there’s a Kramer Focus 3000 from the mid 80s that’s due for some upgrades and I’m really interested to hear what it might sound like all polished up.
My opinion is that you spent too much money on the parts. (Expensive). If you want to upgrade a guitar like that, you can spend way less on things like FLOER pick ups for 35 dollars for 2 humbuckers, and 20 for a nice single coil. You can also get locking tuners for 40 dollars. And a Wilkinson bridge for 55 dollars. And you’ll have a decent guitar for about 215 dollars. I love modding guitars and I’ll do that over spending 1k plus on a guitar made in the same factory. Fun video nonetheless! Cheers.
You should check out Firefly guitars, for around $200 or less you can get a great begginers guitar. They even have a double neck with a case for around $300 to $400 I have 2 of their guitars

How much is it worth now? $100. No one would pay $250 for it. Sellers always hope to recoup the cost of upgrades, but they never get that money back.
To me, buying from Amazon is the same. Most stuff made in China, your data is also sold/used. For Temu it's not necessary to download the Temu app to buy.
I think you're right about that, Facebook, Amazon and Google are probably better at harvesting data than Temu and TikTok...potentially. Thanks for the comment.
I can not vouch for TEMU when it comes to purchasing a guitar, though I did have doubts about he company, well having purchased a shelving unit from them, my verdict about them is very positive fast delivery and the product build was very good quality even from the initial unboxing too even the final build.
The electronics may have been rectified without replacing everything. You probably had a bad earth or other dodgy solder. It would have been more useful to novices to trace the fault and then assess any changes. Impossible to tell, now, as you’ve changed everything and shielded it.
I suppose it depends on what you're trying to achieve. For me, it was making a video to share the experience with an audience. If you're trying to get up and running quickly with a guitar that's ready to go, I think $600 bucks can get you there, assuming that the guitar is set up and plays well if it's used.
You can spend 500-600 and still get no guarantees you wont want to upgrade something once you get it home....and if you are seeking the high end used market, a guitar that is actually good and playable (in the genre you are looking for) is going to be few and far between.
Like your content, but that is not fair to add on $120 for a pro tech setup on the guitar you intend to upgrade?!? You said that it is an OK guitar and looks good...expectations got to be kept in check? If you are a person that needs a pro to setup a guitar, that cost is a wash, whether you buy a used american strat from ebay or a new ibanez from guitar center (they dont do a real thorough setup on the new guitars)...AND there is still a good chance you are going to want to upgrade the pickups if you only paid $500. If you are buying a guitar like this it is most likely a gift or a project and, it might just be that learning guitar setup is part of the journey... I modded my first guitar in High School when my dad bought me a $300 "Mako" strat knockoff... I like the video, and resale value may be your concern, but I dont think that is representative of those looking at a guitar like this. If you knock the pro setup charge off I think you ended up with a good deal.
I think you're right in the sense that most people upgrading a guitar like this will know how to solder electronics and set up a guitar. It's still $480 in upgrade parts without the set-up. But to me, since I don't do any fret work, getting the frets dressed and the guitar intonated and dialed in, made the instrument playable.
Thanks for the honest review!! 😊
Thank you for watching!

Thanks dude!

You're very welcome Raymond, thanks for watching. I figured this experiment would help some other players out there, and I'm glad it did.

I totally agree, learning to fix up a guitar is a great learning process.

It looks like a lot of work but you made it sing. As you say though, better to just get a better used guitar and Temu isn't a safe site to use.
It did take a considerable amount of time to overhaul this guitar! Thanks for watching and be safe out there!

I agree man, they might have just the thing you're looking for, and at a fraction of the price.

You're right, I did spend too much money on this one. But I wanted to know how much it would cost to make this guitar useable.

Oh look... It's Mr. Temu commercial again.
The electronics may have been rectified without replacing everything. You probably had a bad earth or other dodgy solder. It would have been more useful to novices to trace the fault and then assess any changes. Impossible to tell, now, as you’ve changed everything and shielded it.
There are good quality upgrade options that are far more affordable and more appropriate for a $100 guitar.
You’re probably right about that. What would you recommend?
Or, just buy a $600 guitar and not do anything to it??
why?
could spend 600 bucks and get an experience and learn a thing or two. or spend 600 bucks and have something you look at.

Where is the fun in that. But seriously, these upgrades could be done a whole lot cheaper.
@visualpossibilities the fun in that is ya get to play your guitar immediately and don't have to take it apart.
Negative comment.
Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.
If people weren't bitching they'd have nothing to say
