    Thank you, Dr. Lemaire. I have to have this done next week, and I am more than a little nervous about it. Your demeanor, and very informative discussion has really put my mind at ease, although I'm still a little scared. My CABG was done in 2018, so I am praying there are no complications. Again, thank you. I wish you were MY doctor!

      @@maureenmaneo3229 Painless (drugs, I'm sure)- outpationt surgery. I got 7 days worth of opiods for pain, which I didn't really need. I weigh 90 pounds and those stupid wires were about to poke out of me, especially since that was my cat's favorite sleeping spot. I was scared to death to have this done, but it was easy as pie. A couple of hours in a hospital bed and my son was able to take me home. Two weeks later, went for check up, didn't even have stitches.... just glue, I have NOT regretted it, not only that, but my CABG scar looks less noticeable.

    I had my wires removed six weeks post bypass. My operation was filmed for training purposes. I had infection in wound that went into wires as they started harbouring infection. At Manchester Royal.

    Hello Doctor, Hope your doing well, indeed I'm watching this video one year later after my ASD surgery as sometimes i got needle prick sensation due to senturm wires. My doctor also says majority of people don't need to remove it if its not giving you that much pain or having any infections. If i have that much then i can gi for removal surgery.
    That is i don't want but i also not want that sensations . Is there any another way that i may get rid off that needle prick sensation without surgery. Thanks in advance.

    Hello Doctor. I’m to have two sternal wires removed soon.
    2 lower wires have snapped. I had a Double Heart Valve Replacement in September 2020. I was very traumatised by the surgery, hallucinations and delirium.
    Therefore I’ve been always very nervous having operations since.
    I suppose I’m seeking reassurance that this procedure will not cause that kind of trauma. TIA

      Hi, Sorry for the delay in responding. First, I want to inform you as I hope my video did, that sternal wire removal is a MINOR surgery. This is nothing like a double valve replacement. You should be able to go home the same day. I hope that helps.

    It's been 5 years since my open heart, surgery to replace my aortic valve, and I have a pain right at the incision. It hurts when I lift my right arm or when I cough, especially when I touch the area. It feels tender, and also feels like there is something poking me from the inside out. Can it be that the wires maybe got lose?

    I was just wondering during this procedure do they have to shave your whole body again. Because last time when they did it it felt like they either shaved too close and i had a burning sensation over my lower body and my chest area with a razor or something.
    I had two wires break.

    • @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445
      @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry for the delay in responding. You do not need your entire body shaved for sternal wire removal. You only need your chest shaved. Take care.

    Sir, is antibitocs necessary after sternum wire removal? Is antibiotics given after sternum wire removal as standard operating procedure.

    • @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445
      @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the question. Antibiotics are only given during the operation IF infection is not the primary reason for removing the wires. If the reason for removing the wires is infection, you will need to keep the antibiotics on for several days to weeks.

    Hello Dr,
    My father had gone through bypass surgery 3 months ago and had infection, pain and poor wound healing. So, the surgeon said sternal wires need to be removed.... Had diabetes too...... How much time is required for complete recovery ?

      The removal of sternal wires is a very minor procedure. The recovery will typically take 3-4 days.

    Thank you for this video. You explained this perfectly. Is it possible to a loose wire to protrude through the skin? If so, would removal be possible if they were applied to a baby and the patient is now a teenager

    • @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445
      @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, sorry for the delay. A loose wire can protrude through the skin and is very easy to remove. Regarding removing wires from babies and teenagers, that's an interesting question. Babies don't get sternal wires, their chest is closed with sutures. Regarding teenagers, I'm not sure as I don't operate on the pediatric population. Take care.

    Hi Doctor thank you very much for the explanation, I had my bypass surgery before 6 months. Now I am having some multiple little infection in the chest in sternal area. I sent pictures to my doctor as he is far from me. He is saying probably wire reaction. How to confirm it is sternal infection and wires need to remove? I have diabetes.

      @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HI, sorry for the delay in responding. I think you should speak with your doctor again. I agree that sternal wires unfortunately can lead to poor wound healing. The only way to clear the infection is to remove the wires. It's a very short and small operation with great success. I wish you the best.

    • @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445
      @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Sorry for the delay in responding. There are many techniques for closing the sternum. The technique that you described must be the favorite of your surgeon. The crossover technique the surgeon employed is supposed to provide a stronger closure because of the "Crossover" of the wires. Once again, the technique that your surgeon employed is one of many.

    My mom is scheduled for this surgery. She’s 82, had a quad bypass in 2016, she’s 94 lbs. she along with all of us, are concerned with her undergoing this procedure. Anything we should be mindful of?

      Sorry for the delay in responding. Respectfully, this is a very MINOR procedure. As I mentioned previously in my video, this procedure last approximately 20-30 minutes. I'm typically done in 10 minutes with the majority of the time closing the incision. Patients go home the same day. There are not many surgeries that we perform where the patient goes home the same day. I would not be concerned personally. Good Luck.

      Hi, Sorry for the delay in responding. The sternal wires are NOT routinely removed after CABG. They are only removed for the reasons I mentioned in the video. A MRI can be done after open heart surgery although we typically wait 30 days if possible. Good Luck with your dad's recovery.

    Im having trouble finding a surgeon who can remove them. I had an accident and the wires broke, which caused them to poke me when I look up or to the side. Who would remove them? @cardiacsurgerypatienteduca2445  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the delay in responding. That's a question and the answer is yes. If you tried to get sternal wires out within a week of placement it would be very easy. If wires were in for 15 years or even 1 year, it would be difficult but definitely doable.
