There is no mention of insulation, I would love to get information on what kind of insulation options are available in Pakistan compared to the practices in North America and Europe. The second option is a personal preference, but I have noticed that no one uses an aluminum shutter in front of their windows like you see in the Middle East and Europe. To keep the dust and light out. Especially during dust storms. The shutter is on the outside, the pulling down mechanism is on the inside with a cloth belt. @@teamovercs thank you. Do people place them between two layers of walls, or just on the roof usually? I have noticed that the house insulation is really bad in the cities here. In the village the house roof and walls are covered with mud, so even with a fan it feels cooler. In the city, the houses are usually single layer brick, which causes lots of heat to come in. I asked a few contractors here about insulation during construction and how they would do it. No one gave a straight answer on cost, measurements, type, installation techniques etc. A better insulated house reduces heating and cooling bills significantly. This is becoming really important now as lots of the elderly folks are living in cities with their children compared to staying in villages like previous generations. That is where those shutters come in as well, to reduce the heat coming in from the outside.
At one of our sites in Islamabad, we are making insulated walls, for insulated walls you need a 4.5 inches thick brick wall and then 9 inches, in between both walls 1 thick insulation is placed either in jumbolon or thermopore sheets. This method is adopted very rarely since it becomes very costly. Most of the people use insulation in roofs only. But to protect your house from heat in true manner, sun facing sides of your house must have insulated walls+ insulated roof+ heat proof windows. These three things together can reduce the heat only.
@@teamovercs thank you for the detailed information. Canadian construction is different due to temperature issues. They used to use foam insulation that expanded and dried up. Between drywalls, they used another 1~2 layers of insulation wool. We used wood a whole lot more there compared to here, but Canada has a whole lot more wood to offer as well. If you don't mind my asking, for a 10 Marla house, if insulated walls+insulated roof + heat proof windows (i presume double pane?) is used, how much does that increase the construction cost by in total?
Insulated walls and heat proof double glazed upvc windows will be the main expense. You can expect an increase of minimum 25% to the total cost for 10 marla.

Basement covered area should be around 1000 to 1100 sqft
