Never thought of them as death metal, far too melodic. Death metal makes me think of bands like Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death who I can't stand, I can actually listen to Amon Amarth even though I don't like the vocal style.

What actually makes it still death metal at all though? It's nowhere near as heavy as those death, you can actually make out with the vocalist is saying, the drums aren't as intense, it loses the very essence of death metal?

Jörmundgandr is also one of the son of loki, with the wolf fenrir and hel.

All of their songs are stories. You can listen to any of them for viking stories. Listen to 'Fate of Norns' and get hit by the feels. Listen to 'the Hero' and understand the mercenary with a turn of heart. Listen to 'Under the Northern Star' and sail with a viking at night.
Seriously man. Where most metal is filled up with religiousness, rebelliousness, anger, or something edgy or whatever...Amon Amarth and a few other bands are just telling badass stories with the intensity they deserve.

My introduction to amon amarth was probably the strangest of them all. I was walking through Walmart's music selection when I was a senior in high school (2012). I noticed their album surtur's rising on the shelf. I thought "well this look's pretty cool. If it sucks at least it's only 10 dollars." Best 10 dollars I have ever spent.

Amon Amarth is amazing. I met them a few years ago at Mayhem Fest and they signed a photo for me. They were nothing like they seem to be in their videos or pictures. They were the nicest guys and super happy to be there. I've been a fan ever since.
See them on stage with an audience that goes crazy over their musik and you see them smile from ear to ear ... they just enjoy the heck out of that.

It's seriously surging with energy, and I promise, while a great deal of their songs are equally as energizing, while telling the myths, lore and fables of a culture not given much exposure through the mainstream. So, all that being said, while keeping the lyrics in mind for each other song you listen to by them, you should definitely, DEFINITELY, check out Guardians of Asgaard, God's of War Arise, Loki's Treachery (Hermod's Ride to Hel), Where Silent Gods Stand Guard, The Hero, but most of all (which is a hard thing for me to say), Tattered Banners Bloody Flags. Have fun man, I know we will!

So I just discovered your channel, and want to give you HUGE ups, im a musician and love every form of music. Its really cool to see people get stoked on new music. Fun fact; I have seen Amon Amarth at least 8 times. The day this album dropped, (October 2009, cant remeber the date) I saw them play at Slims in San Fransisco. I was front row, BELTING out this song, the singer, legendary Johann Hegg reached out to me. I thought he was going for the Viking handshake (one finger up the arm so you know if they had a dagger), and PULLED ME ONSTAGE. He held the mic between us as wee belted out"TWILIGHT OF THE THUNDERGOD" Coolest thing ever.

I came by Amon Amarath on accident, was at the store buying cds and I saw one of their albums and the cover art just looked so bad ass I had to have it because of that alone and then when I listened to it I was immediately a fan.
Scandinavian melodic death metal is the greatest sub-genre of metal. Such a powerful, full sound.

This is the first Opeth song I would recommend as well, as I think its a PERFECT introductory song to experience the brilliant mix of clean and growling vocals. However, I think the studio version would be better to listen to first. Opeth is fucking amazing live, though.

Bathory; their album "Blood Fire Death" is the first official viking metal album. Being released in 1988, it had influences of old school metal and folk music and is generally a little slower than "normal" metal. Some songs you should check out is the title track "Blood Fire Death" or "A Fine Day To Die"

These guys live is unreal. They have guys come on stage and fight, and Loki comes out, its just great. Also its great to see a group of fans that dont know each other form up before the show starts and sit on the ground and act like they are rowing in a viking ship. Its epic live bro.
I think Amon Amarth is one of the most glorious Melodic Death metal bands ever existed. Sounds brutal, aggressive but also powerful and satisfying the same time.
Have heard the first time 1 year ago and it was mind blowing but wanted to get more of it.
