I've had popcorn, all varieties of dry beans, and rice go bad due to bugs hatching inside the bags after 6 months to 1 year. A prepper channel advised to freeze all of those for 3 days in the freezer before storing them. I tried it and it works like a charm.
You can also heat temper glass jars so they are bacteria free then fill with beans or rice and pop them in the oven and then turn on the oven to 125 degrees for twenty minutes and put lids on. No bugs and nice and dry.
Watching the news the other night and they did a segment about the drive through non contact food pantries in our area and I couldn't believe what I saw. People lined up for miles to pick up some canned goods but what made me think was most were driving $50,000.00 SUVs that could easily have afforded to put away some extra food for an emergency but know there will be handouts so they didn't bother to. There are 2 different fields of thought on personal responsibility when it comes to hard times and many will not be prepared no matter what you tell them. On the other hand I am seeing an influx of new subscribers that are starting gardens for the first time this year and looking into different methods of preserving their first harvest that I feel is a positive outcome from this pandemic. The way the government is printing money now we all must be prepared for change.
@@danburch9989 : Glad you mentioned that. Everyone that I know with an SUV or a BMW or MERCEDES have LEASED the vehicle and will turn it in in two years to get a newer model to LEASE. Leases are usually over $400 a month. Add that to all the other expenses you have and you DON'T HAVE A JOB, then food becomes something you have to scrounge for. Remember too, that supermarkets have limited supplies now because the States are stockpiling food for the next viral shutdown sometime in September. They are preparing for the next food bank onslaught. If you don't have a job you must pay rent first or you have no shelter and stocking up on food will do you no good if you have no place safe to eat and sleep.
Americans don't know how to budget, prioritize or save. We have to use up all our money on wants rather than needs. Many over use their credit cards on splurges and impulse buys and then spend the rest of their lives trying to pay it back. One thing we all need to learn is how to live within our means or even below our means so there will be left over resources to save for what-if situations.
@Karen Redding. Yes, that's very true. Just like acidic fluids like vinegar, lemon juice or apple cider affect a metal lid. I think it's called corrosion. I'm Dutch. The old way of storing salt is keeping it in ceramic bowls with a cork lid, or a ceramic lid on it. In Britain I've used a salt container once, which had a peculiar shape, but proved to be a clever design. It was an about 30 cm. high ceramic pot with a slight belly below. Roughly 15 cm. diameter at the lower part. narrowing to about 10 cm diameter above the wider part. It was plain dark brownish-greenish, an old design, robust, possibly from the early 20th century, or late 19th. In the lower part was a hole that was just large enough to put the fingers of one hand in it and take some salt out. The salt was placed in it through the top, which had a ceramic lid on it, and the hole where I took the salt with my hand, was about 5 cm. above the bottom of the pot, so that sufficient salt storage was kept for use, right next to the cooker. The salt in it was rough, like the Maldon salt from the West Cornish coast. The hole at the bottom remained open and still, the salt kept dry. I've found that the most beautiful and practical salt pot and everytime I reached inside it was a little bit exciting, like as if I wasn't sure what to find in there 😊 a little secret?
@@THEFAITHFULPALADIN im not stsrting any trouble but i was just educated on this. I use oxygen absorbers and mylar as well… but DONT USE OXYGEN ABSORBERS with SALT. 😊 it will get hard as a rock
Thanks Prepsteaders. Your kind, genuine, and caring presentation has added to my list of necessary foods. When Jesus is in you, He doesn't stay hidden. I wouldn't label you as being brave for mentioning HIm, but rather grateful for HIs comfort. And just never mind the folks questioning your Faith, when the time comes, I am positive you would not withhold food from them if they came asking. I wonder then if they will see His face looking through your kind smile? God Bless.
So happy to know I have just about everything on hand that you are showcasing. I'm a prepper at heart and believe we all need to be prepared, if possible.
More people need to learn to be more responsible for themselves and their families than to expect the government to come and save them. They'll die waiting.
Good Information! Even if no major emergency happens, buy and store stable items and save not going to the grocery store...create your own "home store" as much as possible
Thank you, Christa, for such a helpful presentation of foods that last. Also for the joy you're showing, talking and explaining. I'm fond of growing vegetables, cooking, all things related to food and now, also storage of food, in the present condition. It may be that most of you know about this, but here's a little detail about keeping salt dry. I've learned at a young age, that putting a few rice kernels in salt, especially salt-shakers, keeps the salt dry. The rice sucks up the water and the saltshaker works fine. The rice can't get out through the fine holes in the top. Easy does it!
I like this woman; she's instructive (very useful information), articulate, intelligent, and straight-to-the-point about the issues with which preppers should be familiar. As a woman who lives in southern Utah, many of us have had for years, hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of food storage. I also have a well-designed bug-out bag in case of a natural disaster (about the only thing that might threaten southern Utah would be an earthquake) as well as a well-supplied automobile. One can never be too prepared.
Sylvia Erb - that's true! Doubt our Himalyan Salt is really 1000 years old. They don't really know! How can they know what makes something 100 million or 400 million years old? Like your comment!😄😊😊💝💝💝
I think most store bought products will have an expiration date on them, for 2 reasons. 1 is to cover their asses from law suits if anyone got sick from an expired product. 2 They want the public to believe that the product must be use by the expire date so they can sell more product. That's just my opinion.
Government mandates expiration dates. They bear no relation to actual length of time a product lasts. Even medical products ....medications etc are good long past expiration dates. Our hospital sends them to 3rd world countries because they are still good.
Stirring Time Designs My husband orders his green coffee beans from Sweet Maria’s. He has a roaster now, but began with an old popcorn machine (has to be a certain style) and the friend who started him off uses a heat gun. I’m sure TH-cam has instructions.
@@robertportersc Yeah, I thought they only were good for about a year or two in green form. I quit coffee and have at least 5lbs. vacuum sealed with O2 absorbers, so, who knows. Maybe they'll still roast and brew really well in a few years.
I have salt that is guaranteed to have a shelf life of 10,000 years, guaranteed. Of course, I have kept the receipt just in case it spoils before that.
Your on the ball💗. That a way to not let them get the best of ya. How you going to make the receipt last that long though, mine don't last a year. Its always something they're trying to get over on us🙋😘
I have items as well that are "meant" to last indefinitely or longer than our lifetime, and I have been a prep steader for yrs. Now on to the saving the receipts, I save mine for big item purchases between 3 to 7 yrs. per US IRS specificTions(I was audited and unprepared once, never again) my receipts are not only sealed from air they are kept away from light and moisture as well. I place my like receipts on top of white 8"x 11" printer paper write the name of store, date and store were i purchased the item and run it through my laminator making sure all sides are sealed, then I place inside my file cabinet in my home office. I have some this for over 15 years. Every year I remove(shred) the previous year of receipts, therefore only leaving 3 to 7 yrs of receipts in and not having extra clutter...my receipts are as clear and new as the day of purchase
Oh and cornstarch is gmo now. And baking powder has aluminum in it. (the store kind). Jello pudding is gmo also and Heinz puts that statement right on the package. I hate that as I loved their puddings for pies.
You can make your own pure vanilla extract by soaking vanilla beans in vodka or tequila in a glass bottle in the dark until it gets to the strength you want. you can reuse the beans by pouring off the liquid & adding more liquor. Always make in the dark.
This is true, but have you checked the price of vanilla beans lately!?! Whoa buddy! I have made my own for years but have bought commercial extract recently (much more expensive than before, but proportionally not as much as beans) because of this.
Just don't use the cheap stuff...lol My sister made some vanilla extract using the cheapest vodka she could find and it was so nasty tasting, I threw it out. I didn't have the heart to tell her though.
Steve Allison Expensive stuff like that can be found in Restaurant Supply stores in big bottles. Even if you have to buy a case, people won't usually turn down free stuff given in earnest.
I saw a very cool arbor in someone's backyard and decided to put one up for my green beans. We made it from cattle panels and metal posts. Everyone called it my green bean garage...20 feet long and about 10 feet tall. I canned 130 qts. of beans...whew. Then we put up another for grapes..😀.
Yep. During war there are bodies laying all over the place. A little bit of oil, some salt and maybe hotsauce and you got yourself a great meal mmmmm :-p

I have some regular cocoa and some black cocoa (I'm a cake decorator), both of which are past the expiration date. I can easily replace these products, but since the black cocoa is pretty expensive, I hate to throw it out. Since I've kept them in a cool, dark cabinet, will the black cocoa still stay good for that long, too?
I worked in a coffee/spice/ dry bean & rice plant for over 30 years. Can coffee has nitrogen fush & oxygen free, will last 9-12 months after packaging, longer in a freezer. Grind grains will last a long time in the freezer, not 30 year, because if you can not buy them, you will not have power for the freezer without solar power. One good one that last 30-100 years is perennial vegetables & fruit/nut trees, one learns to propagate & 500 years is no problem.Do you have a video on perennial plants or edble flowers, like Nancy Hill's book. I know, you're talking about storage, but learned skills are very important too. Great video.

@Sam Smith , hi Sam. I just wanted to let you know, that Jesus isn’t coming back in a “rapture”. JESUS IS HERE Right Now! HE is In Every Believer!! When we hear and BELIEVE the Gospel, GOD gives us HIS Eternal Spirit to Live IN us! 1Cor 3:16- Know ye not that ye are the temple of GOD and that the Spirit of GOD dwelleth In you? And HE will NEVER Leave you or Forsake you! The false “church’s “ want you to think He’s not here. They want you to not worry about anyone being saved/ or making sure you ARE In the Faith, because you think you’ll be raptured out. But that is not what the Bible says. Yes we are Received up with Jesus and our brethren, but that happens when we believe; we Hear the True Gospel, Believe it, and we get the Selfsame Spirit of Christ In us! That is our Baptism!! We Are Baptized into His death, burial, and RESURRECTION!! Eph 4:5- there is ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM. John 4:24- GOD IS A SPIRIT and we Must Worship Him In Spirit And In Truth. 1Tim 1:17- Now unto the King Eternal, Immortal, INVISIBLE, ONLY Wise GOD.. God is a Spirit and He put His Spirit in the Son. HE came “Fashioned as a man”. 1Tim 2:5- There Is ONE GOD and One Mediator between GOD and Men, the Man Christ Jesus. 2Cor 5:19- GOD WAS IN Christ Reconciling the world unto Himself Col 2:9- For IN Him Dwelleth All the Fulness of the Godhead bodily. The Son/Mediator = 2 Man ( Flesh)- Jesus GOD(SPIRIT) JESUS Did GOD die? No. He has No beginning and No ending. The Son, Jesus, Died for the sins of the world, was buried, and on the 3rd day GOD Raised Him From the dead, according to the scriptures. And Now We get the earnest of the Spirit when we believe. GOD says if you Believe this Gospel, He will Also Raise up you from the dead. Col 3:3- for Ye are dead, and your Life is hid with Christ IN GOD. This temporary life is filled with sin/death. JESUS came to bring Life More Abundantly ( ETERNAL LIFE)!! GOD IS LIFE!! ( the WAY, the TRUTH, the LIFE!!!))) please believe this TRUE Gospel and Be Saved right Now!! When we Believe, we are BORN AGAIN, A NEW CREATURE created IN CHRIST. We HAVE Passed from death to LIFE!!! And that LIFE can NEVER DIE! We ARE RAISED to Newness of Life. We will Never Taste Death! Our Spirits ARE Eternal! We ARE SEEN IN HEAVENly Places!! Please believe! We ARE the Church!!! Peace. ❤️ 🐑 ☀️ Seek the Truth!
You can just plant peppermint, lemon balm, garlic, chives, oregano or any strong smelling herbs around the outside of the house if you don't want bugs inside. I've been doing it for years
Thank you for a very useful video about food stability. Most of the recommendations you make are consistent with my own experience. After 9/11, I looked in the cupboard and found it bare. So I stocked up... Year upon year passed and my stock remained untouched. then in 2015, I lost my job during a grand company restructuring. It struck me as the particular vague emergency I had prepared for. So, what did I learn when I dove into these ancient food stores? 1) Dry beans - in the most air tight system I could devise, they continued to dry. They lose ability to germinate after two years and after many years will require up to 48 hours to soak before cooking. This may not be true if pressure cookers are used. Navy beans and lentils seem to me to hold up best. 2) White rice can oxydize after a few years. I found that an open "hot-hands" placed inside an open ziploc bag can protect an 18 gallon plastic barrel for up to 10 years. 3) Olive oil is supposed to have a short shelf life. I don't know what degradation has occurred, nutritionally but the bottle I am currently using has a 2009 expiration date and it tastes fresh to me. 4) Spaghetti - I would not expect whole grain noodles to last long. The semolina noodles I purchased at Sam's in 2001 are just fine in 2018. No unusual storage effort attempted. 5) Canned food - Tomato based and other acid products are going to eat through cans in two years. Don't bother. Soups that require can openers... my son said I would surely die if I ate them... I am still here after eating them. After some 15 years, I could not tell they had changed at all. Pop-top lids - these stayed bacteria safe for as many as 10 years (I ran out before 11 years). The pop-top cans are not moisture impervious, so the food slowly dries out over years of storage. Add a little water, as needed. 6) Spices - Never had any seem to reduce in quality. Dried parsley loses color over time, even if stored in the dark. 7) Whole grain - the ultimate long term storage food, in my opinion. pleasanthillgrain.com supplies super-long shelf stable foods at reasonable prices.
The problem with oils often comes down to three general factors that all feed into one problem: oxidation. The emptier the container, the more trapped oxygen that will lead to oxidation. Also, light and heat, both of which speed the process along. Keep the oil cool, dark, sealed, and the container full and it ought to keep for a decent while. That's why some containers, lost in the back of the cupboard, can be fine. :P It's also why clear plastic containers, left near the stove, that catches sunlight a few hours every day tends to go rancid.
Just boil the soups and vegetables for 10 minutes. It should kill off anything bad. Also, often the foods don’t go bad, they just lose nutritional value over time. Olive oil and coconut oil can hold up if stored well in a cool dark place and sealed properly. The same is true for yeast. I hear if it’s kept in the freezer, it can keep for ten years. It may lose a tiny bit of effectiveness. But you can always just add more of it to breads.

We've all seen the clips of 5 year old cheeseburgers. Undertakers report human bodies are not decaying as rapidly too many preservatives in food is the Culprit.
I've had maple syrup grow mold. It was the first time I had ever bought it, and assumed it could be stored in the pantry after opening. It sat unused for quite awhile and when I finally reached for it again, I saw the mold. THEN I read the label and saw "Refrigerate after opening". I was so glad that it was a clear glass bottle and not one of those cute little log cabin tins, or I wouldn't have seen the mold until it was on my French toast. 😝
I had the same thing happen. I had assumed that it would stay good at room temperature like honey. I found out the hard way that once you open it (break the seal) then it must be refrigerated. That may be why people used to also make maple sugar.
An excellent presentation, but I must disagree on one thing, coffee. I realize that the coffee afficanados will say otherwise, but I LOVE coffee and I've used coffee ALREADY GROUND that I've found lost in the back of a cabinet that was at least two or three years old (and served it to others as well) and it was still excellent. The whole bean coffee that's vacuum packed in the heavy duty foil type packages is also good for a few years. Basically, unless the coffee smells rancid, it's just fine. It won't keep forever because of it's high content of volitile oils, but unless you're a coffee snob from hell, and the poop has struck the osillating air moving device, you will appreciate a nice cup of coffee, even if it is brewed from coffee that is a few years old.
Barbara, I respect that! I used to sell coffee professionally, and learned that the coffee aficionados were very opinionated about how many hours after coffee is roasted and ground, it goes "bad". There are many foraged roots and nuts people have roasted to make a "coffee" drink, but in reality, I would probably gladly drink 30 year old coffee if it had been sealed up well. It may taste more like dirt by that time, but even psychologically it will help knowing I am drinking real coffee! :)
I had Folgers ground coffee that was 10 years old that still tasted alright to me and if it were some sort of emergency/survival situation it would have been blissful!
If you want coffee that will last "and" you want actual health benefits, order green coffee and roast as needed, can be roasted in a cast iron skillet, burmancoffee.com/coffee/
My family also from NY. We have been preparing for times like this for around 10yrs. It is a family tradition with us. But never to old to learn from others. Love the videos.
You can also make your own maple syrup in the spring if you live in a cold part of north-america with maple trees nearby. It's really just evaporated tree sap. Aboriginal peoples have been making this stuff for thousands of years. And not only syrup. If you keep boiling the syrup it becomes taffy, and if you stir it, it turns into maple butter, etc.
Another item that literally lasts forever is my Grandmas Christmas fruitcake... She was born in 1905, and I swear her mother past that same loaf down to her... I think my 85 yr old mother is using it for a door stop now.
Vodka and vinegar can also both be used to make medicinal tinctures as well as flavor extracts like vanilla (if you have vanilla beans). Whole wheat berries packed with O2 absorbers will last up to 20 years, so if you have a mill you can grind fresh flour to make your breads and pasta. Durum wheat is for pasta, Winter wheat (or hard wheat) is for breads, and Soft wheat is for all purpose flour. Baking Soda will last for years in glass containers, Cream of Tarter will also last for years in glass. Baking Powder is made by mixing baking soda and cream of tarter, but once it's mixed the shelf life is only like 6 months.

My dad grew up during the Great Depression, as the son of a tenant farmer. Cornstarch was used as a form of “dry shampoo,” sprinkled along the part and combed through to absorb the oil in the hair. He also used baking soda and water as an indigestion aid his whole life.

Loved your video! (I'm new to prepsteaders today... this is just my third one) Many of those foods that are only shelf stable for a year are still well worth having stockpiled. It will take a year for many people to get a large plot (field) plowed and a garden to produce. (you better have the seeds vacuum packed) It won't matter if you have still pasta if you produce wheat. Same with Ramen and a lot of other easy things... food that sustains you while your group LEARNS to be self-sufficient is vital. Canned meats if stored in a cool, dry place, will be safe to eat (might not taste the best) for 2-5 years after the "use by" date. Remember, if you aren't already raising your own meat, it will take two years to produce beef starting with one cow... what do you eat until then? And if you eat your only cow, what do you have in perpetuity? AND, if you have a place to which you and a your colony can retreat and live by subsistence, better plan some solar powered electric fences; have spools of wire and a charger. Simple and inexpensive but critical if you are growing your own food. There is nothing as frustrating as cultivating a beautiful garden only to have the deer, rabbits, raccoons, or other varmits eat it all in a few nights. Most people forget about protecting their garden and crops when they are thinking about raising them--this is a food discussion--and without fencing or 24 hour vigilance, you won't have any food. Oh, and thanks for the last 30 seconds of each video! Important to see who people really are.
Thank you! I was not a prepper....but now Ive started an urban garden and with this video I'll have plenty Of goods to stock up on. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Some of the things you talked about have expiry dates on them here in 🇨🇭 like sugar, honey and tea but I do not follow them at all. I believe they last longer. Thank you for validating my views. ❤
Sugar, white granulated sugar if stored in moisture proof containers will last indefinitely. I store it in 5 pound military grade mylar bags, last week I opened up a bag for kitchen use I had sealed in 2012, checked it against a newly purchased bag & literally no difference. I mylar packed the new & put it into rotation. Honey also will last indefinitely. I may turn into solids once opened if not used in a few months, but get it into a heatproof container, put that container into boiling water & the honey becomes liquid & useable again

You can buy spaghetti in the can at the Mormon canonry. It has a 30 shelf life. Its just uncooked noodles. I think it's called spaghetti bites. Also they have other noodles too. You don't have to be a Mormon to buy there. We went and the couple that was running it gave me wonderful advice. Very kind people and great prices.
I literally just stumbled across your channel today and I am so in love!!! I don't have enough hours in my day but I plan to "do it ALL" Got my first batch of ACV sitting on the counter
I love watching the videos and reading the comments. Everyone has their own way of prepping. I just want to be as comfortable as possible if the shtf. If it doesn't... OK, I saved a lot of $ on groceries, learned some new skills, and increased my resources. Win..win. I'm a bargain shopper...lol. I have found many useful items at yard sales and thrift stores. 😀
Rosie, I entirely agree with you. There are quite a few very valid opinions on how to prep correctly out there. I am a firm believer that we have a great deal we can learn from the past, regardless of what the future looks like. I am glad you find some of the information helpful!!
What is herbal Tincture for medicines. Like what kind of medicine? Medicine you make or Medicine you have like cough medicine or BC'S for a severe migraine. I would need some slerp medicine lol. I woukd no joke. What do you do if you need sleep medicine? I am serious. I honestly need to know.
I imagine Grey Goose vodka or any brand is good as long as it is 100% pure vodka? How do you know what kind to get? Some of the vodkas are pretty expensive. Just asking. I love the good ol' days. They are no more. My Grandma or MoMo. I called both (Moah-Moah, Southern Moe-Moe, spelled MawMaw)
I just discovered your chanel last week, and I am so grateful. Kids and I are trying your ships biscuits recipie later today, in grandma's apron. I don't drink, as well, but try to purchase hard alcohol when it's on sale ,for future bartering, cleaning a wound if no other means, and to numb tooth pain. Thank you for you videos. God bless you!
Regarding dried goods such as rice, and I love Basmati, long grain and arborio, I open all the rice and vacuum seal it by portions of 250 gr or 1 cup. This enough for one meal for two people or two meals for one person. This way, you use what you need without having a huge bag to get through before the bugs get there, and they will.
Put Bay leaves in with the rice to keep bugs away too, that is what we do in Cajun Country where you can just go outside and pick Bay leaves any time of year.
For some spices and herbs, there are freeze-dried versions (not dehydrated, that's different). They are a bit more expensive but taste more like the fresh version than regular dried and should last you 25 or more years on the shelf.
Tea may not be a food, but it is essential! I am not a coffee drinker, but I can survive just about anything if I have my hot tea! Seriously, great information in this video. Thank you.
Christa, thank you for a quality, and informative, video. You've reinforced quite a bit of my own knowledge, but I found the detail of your advice extremely useful . . and as for peanut butter, why didn't I know that! Loved your presentation, which was delightfully calm, professional and positive considering the core EOTW subject. I've keenly subscribed!
Thank you so much, Meanwhile, in Norfolk! Yes, of all of the list, Peanut Butter is the most temperamental, but if it is done correctly, it lasts wonderfully. I appreciate your encouragement!
I just wanted to say, one lady to another, not only do you have very good advice, but I wanted to compliment you on your beautiful hair. I think we need to lift each other up more, so I hope this can at least help you have a smile today. God bless, and keep the great info coming!
I don't think you will mind a little MSG in your bouillon cubes when the SHTF. Also, unopened maple syrup may have a long shelf life but once opened and not refrigerated it will grow a fungus. So buy small bottles and use it quickly.
Marla, you may be right about the MSG, but it is so hard on some people's bodies. I know my own father has a very severe reaction with in just a couple minutes of taking any in. Thank you for mentioning that about the maple syrup. YES! Small bottles are good for a number of reasons!
Most everything I store I store in small quantities. I watch videos of people storing 30 pounds of beans or rice or whatever in a 5-gallon bucket. Personally, I don't want to eat the same thing everyday until it's gone. I store in 1 cup size vacuum packs. Everything is in small amounts so we can have a variety. Sure it takes more time to store and space but I think knowing that we have a variety will be better.
Marla Bullard what vacuum sealer do you use? I just scored an unused foodsaver at Goodwill. Maybe an slightly older version, but is usable with the glass storage containers. I was wondering how good it is since I have never used it! Thanks for the idea of using it for long term storage! I was thinking more in terms of bug out meals
Freeze dried instant coffee is very shelf stable. It’s not nearly as good as fresh brewed I agree. But, a reasonable facsimile is better than nothing at all.
@@PREPSTEADERS Green coffee as I understand it has even been found in tombs and was still good. I buy green coffee and roast it myself, it's cheaper and you get fresh coffee with actual antioxidants, not dead old roasted coffee you get at the store. I would recommend adding green coffee beans to your list; the cheapest method to roast would be in a frying pan on top of the stove or campfire. Here is where I order mine, burmancoffee.com/coffee/
John Stossel taught me that if you put plain popcorn in a paper bag and microwave it, it will pop. It's fantastic and not oily like the prepackaged microwave popcorn (and SOOOO much cheaper). Great video as always! Very helpful! Thank you and God bless!
Longer...Last week I made salmon patties and homemade peach cobbler from cans dated 2012 & 2013. If stored in dry temperate conditions you're golden for L O N G times, just check the cans for bulges, likely means it's gone bad. You also may loose up to 40% of its nutritional value and some discoloration but the product is definitely safe to eat AS LONG AS YOU CHECK THE CANS FIRST.
I did some research on this same subject. Dents are ok but not at the seams on the side or top and bottom. Bacteria may have gotten into the can. Also bulges in cans are definetely to be trashed.
Properly canned & stored, the food is safe to eat as long as the seal isn't broken. As long as the seal is intact nothing can get into the jar/can to cause spoilage. There will be some nutrition loss. Can be flavor, color and/or texture changes. Those don't affect safety of the food.
I used to volunteer at a food bank and at every lunch we would eat expired food . The longest I ate was tomato soup 14 years after expiration at little flat but fine. .
Yeah, and with Cornmeal you can also make "Arepas" which is a typical delicious "Colombian" breakfast food instead of bread. Very simple and practical. Not a forever food but great maybe for the first few months when you can't buy bread anymore. All you need is 3 ingredients. 2 C fine grnd Cornmeal 2 1/2 C Water 1tsp. salt Optional 1/4 C butter for buttery flavor. *Or in a SHTF situation you can count on some Molly Mcbutter or Butterbuds powder flvoring. Put cornmeal & salt into the water Mix all to make a dough type Make about fist size ball then flatten to at least 1/4 inch thick. Cook over stove or grill until golden n crunchy. Delicioso!
I use a lot of 5 gallon Mylar bags with 500cc absorbers for my beans, rice, popcorn, sugar, etc. I will tell from my experience that Ramins only last a few years before they start to rancid. I had the same thing happen with Bouillon cubes. Now I may have had them for 10 years but I gave them to a friend to use and he said they were bad. I did like the video very much though. I always enjoy your videos and learn a lot. Thank you and God bless you.
I cleaned out an old woman's house who had many cans put up. Judging from the labels, I estimate that they were 30+ years old. All the plum cans rotted through from the inside out and the contents was just a dried out pit. The tomato sauce cans were also leaking. The other fruits and veggies had a metallic taste. I didn't dare try the cans with meat, although they were not puffy. The house was located in Fresno, Cal where we have some 105F summers, but almost no freezes. The house had evaporative cooling but I don't know if it was used.
is why you keep seeds, keep planting then each year keeping newer seeds. And if nothing else, they make beautiful full green plants for any front door or balcony too! I plant like 25-40 peanuts in a nice round planter every year at door. oh what a beautiful plant. end of year when they dry out, i have peanuts when i pull them out to toss!
I just discovered your great videos. Regarding coffee. I was pleasantly surprised that instant coffee tastes way better now than it did when it first came out (many years ago). I have heard it said that it is shelf stable in instant form, also that it will be in great demand, so good for trading. I love the ones with flavouring, but plan to stock as many kinds if I can manage, even the bargain brands if the reviews are good.. Also I like that it takes only a spoonful to make a cup of coffee.
There are ways to make certain foods shelf stable which would not be normally. When you showed the bottles (glass) with plastic lids, for example. Transferring your foods to glass is essential (liquids) and even if they come in glass there is another step to take. Get some sealing wax and coat the lids and about an inch down the neck. This will insure oxygen does not seep through the plastic. I've had coffee stored for over 2 years that my husband (who is the coffee drinker) says he can't tell any difference between the 2 year old and the new coffee. Granted, it contains oils and maybe it's because it's vacuum packed that keeps the oxidation from occurring. But to be sure, one might want to put it in mylar (or glass) with an O2 absorber. This could be done with other oily foods as well since it is the oxygen that causes the oils to go rancid. Rice and other dry goods are awesome BUT, take a tip from someone who has lost over 200lbs of rice, FREEZE IT FIRST!!!!! It needs to be at least 3 days in the freezer to kill those pesky weevil eggs! I've lost around 100lbs of dried beans to the same problem. YES weevils get into dried beans too!
Kali, you share some good points there. I transfer everything out to glass with metal lids...no to plastic as much as possible! I believe diatomaceous earth would take care of those evil weevils. Have you tried it? I love the stuff! What part of the country are you in?
During WWI & WWII the Australian diggers would make a kind of hardtack biscuit from flour, butter, molasses, sugar & rolled oats. Both the flour and rolled oats were full of weevils but they ate them anyway simply for the protein.
I can understand the feeling. But if you just buy one thing. Extra. When you buy your groceries. You can build up a reverse. Slowly. But faster than you think
I just learned that opened Aunt Jemima maple syrup in it's orginal package/bottle, again, opened, keeps for at least 5 yrs. It has been sitting up there for 5 yrs, opened but unused (but half used) for 5 yrs and just made pancakes for the first time in 5 yrs and that maple syrup was just like when you first bought it. It's not natural maple syrup as many preach but kept just as well, opened, and in it's orginal bottle. Maple syrup keeps! Maybe natural keeps longer but it keeps regardless! The add water only pancake mix is also 5 yrs old. It's opened and was partly used. It's in it's orginal box and I only took a sticky on one side kind of plastic wrap over the opening and again, was like brand new. That keeps well, as well. Not sure about forever but man, didn't know it would last 5 yrs!
Service Dog In Training Chopper I had real maple syrup which I didn't refrigerator-it went moldy. Be especially careful of it's in an opaque container to check it out before you use it.
@@karenlee6013 Mine too! I never thought that would happen. I poured it all over my pancakes and was over halfway through the meal when I happened to look at the moldy top of the syrup bottle! Did I finish the pancakes?? I will never tell. ;)
I am a married man so don't take this wrong but you are a lovely in all ways. You seem to have a sweet spirit. I love your videos and thanks for the work you do. God bless and love from Canada
I dry can dry beans and white rice using my food saver as well as other dry foods. While some things don't last forever, vacuum sealing does extend the shelf life. As far as herbs...grow your own, dry them and store. You can grow your own black pepper in a pot (bring in during winter). Plant a tea bush or two. Buy a dwarf citrus..also bring in during winter. Vanilla can also be grown indoors. If you have vodka, you can make all sorts of extracts. 😀
Thank you Rosie. I totally agree. I've been preaching about the stuff on your list 4 a long time. Because as I see it as rounding out and utilizing the different food and drink items we can grow ourselves that not only provide the nutritional requirements of life that are low key and easy to care for but also give us just enough comfort in a harsh new reality-if faced with regional or global woes, that enables us to continue the fight to live. Many blessings to u and yours.💗
You can do it to raw flour, rice, and cornmeal as well. They may eventually go bad but at least the bugs won't have them. I heard it recommend in the freezer for 4 day if you have a 5 pound bag of flour to make sure the cold penetrates the food. Thanks for bringing that up.
I do the same for any flour I might have. I put it in the freezer in the plastic grocery bag I brought it home in. Freeze it for a few days and put it on the pantry shelf for a day or so to dry out any moisture. Then I put it in my glass flour container. A 5 pound sack of flour lasts me 3 or 4 months with baking 2 loaves of bread a week. It always tastes fresh and never has bugs.
Do you know how long molasses lasts after opened? I have two bottles in the original glass jars they came in...and both were opened a few years ago (3? maybe 4?) and only a very small amount used. They have been in a cupboard. Also, I assume the lids are screwed on quite tightly..but what if they were not?... would that be a game-changer? ;) Thanks so much!!!
Dark colored glass jars (brown, green, blue) are always preferable to clear. I only buy EVOO in dark bottles. Keeps light from shortening the shelf life.
Thank you so very much for this particular video I did not realize that pasta does have a shelflife thank you and go out and be a blessing to someone today 🙏 !!! 🇵🇱🛶🐢🌈👩🍳🇺🇸
Appreciate your video. Would say, however, that peanut butter tends to go rancid due to oils in it. I have over time found that some of my stored peanut butter tends to be rancid after about 4 years after its expiration date. I have some peanut butter powder and hope that solves this problem.
Country Frau powdered peanut butter also goes bad. I bought a case of it and after a few years when I pulled it out to use some it was all bad. We could not eat it.
That's was what I thought too...then I got excited when I heard channels saying it had a long shelf life! I will be doing more research, but not going over do the pb stock
Country Frau isn't that once sir hits it though? If you bought some for the purpose of stashing, resealed, like canned in a Mason jar and kept cool dark and dry it should last a very long time.
Hi, I love your videos and your sweet wholesome personality! You are a beautiful person! I sent your videos to my wife in Tx where we live. Im in Aviation and working in Alabama. You remind me of her. You are very similar. I appreciate all your information. My wife and son did great during the freeze because we live in the country where we have 30 acres, a well, and stock pond. Luckily we had a 3kw gen for her to use during the power outage. We always had water because of the deep well. She actually was able to have some of her friends come and get water from our well which she ran from the gen. We were so happy to be able to help others. I have already bought her a duel fuel 13 kw gen because we have a 500 gallon propane tank and our heat and cooking is propane. She already stocks cans and such. She is from Mexico so she knows all about not having and always prepping for the worse. She knows all about healing animals and people, she is a seamstress, she knows about growing food, processing animals, and all about ranch living. I am so lucky and blessed. I am doing everything I can to make sure she is ok while I am away. I travel alot for my job. I bought her a wagon to wheel that big gen around cause she wont be able to pick it up and move it on 2 wheels. Shes a smaller lady. Anyway sorry I got long winded. I told her she needs to learn English well so she can begin a youtube channel so she can share all that knowledge she has. She is amazing! You also are amazing and thank you so much for sharing and trying to help others. You are in Gods good graces!
University of Utah has a fairly recent video on canned foods they've tested. They can last next to forever if not dented, punctured, damaged in any way.
I've had popcorn, all varieties of dry beans, and rice go bad due to bugs hatching inside the bags after 6 months to 1 year. A prepper channel advised to freeze all of those for 3 days in the freezer before storing them. I tried it and it works like a charm.
That's a very good tip, l learned it from my Nana. She'd also store her white flour, grits, barley & such in the freezer for the same reason
john buchanan You could also mix in food-grade diatomaceous earth. That is how much commercial storage is protected.
I just dry can them. Never had a problem with any of them.
Bugs are protein too
You can also heat temper glass jars so they are bacteria free then fill with beans or rice and pop them in the oven and then turn on the oven to 125 degrees for twenty minutes and put lids on.
And I drive a 50.00 car. Stocked up. Don't need any hand outs.
Yep. The "me nowers" and glitz. They will not survive any real hard times. Nor ever know true prosperity or security.
You can assume that most of the cars are not paid for. But I'm sure some of them are or were paid off before the pandemic started.
I was very surprised to hear about the long shelf life of these foods....I think this woman has a beautiful heart!
Can't store long term salt with a metal lid because it will rust. Use glass jar with plastic lid for salt. Great tips. Thank you. 🙏👍❤💕
Heavy mylar 5-7 mill with oxygen absorbers is the way to go. Glass is just too fragile & limited for long term prepping.
Even better: glass jar with glass stopper lid. ;)

Great video!
God Bless.
Oh I so hope so, Clark!!! Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate the encouragement!
Canned food with “in its own juice”. Low sodium veggies. Canned meats. Wood or charcoal & a way to burn it. I have a tiny grill. Fire starter.
I love the grace that exudes from you. You've got a new subscriber. Looking forward to learning a lot from you
I like this woman; she's instructive (very useful information), articulate, intelligent, and straight-to-the-point about the issues with which preppers should be familiar.

I bought some Himalayan salt that boasts it was 1000's of years old but the label had an expiration date. 😁
That is freaking hilarious
Hilarious
Green coffee beans, not yet roasted, last forever. By the way, this comment section is a gold mine. Great vid too!
Where do we find green coffee beans without growing our own and how do we get a breakfast blend type roast lol
Stirring Time Designs My husband orders his green coffee beans from Sweet Maria’s. He has a roaster now, but began with an old popcorn machine (has to be a certain style) and the friend who started him off uses a heat gun. I’m sure TH-cam has instructions.
I've always known green coffee beans to bee a perishable food.
I roast them, freeze, then dry can them or vacuume seal.
@@robertportersc
Yeah, I thought they only were good for about a year or two in green form. I quit coffee and have at least 5lbs. vacuum sealed with O2 absorbers, so, who knows. Maybe they'll still roast and brew really well in a few years.
We roast our own green beans. The coffee is so much better. We bought our roaster and continue to buy our beans from Sweet Maria's.
I have salt that is guaranteed to have a shelf life of 10,000 years, guaranteed. Of course, I have kept the receipt just in case it spoils before that.
👌
Let us know in 9,999 yrs if it has went bad lol
And do you have the recipe and shelf life of ghee butter??
Baking soda is very important to have on hand. It also has a number of uses.
You are so right, Oh deer! I agree! Thanks for the comment :)
Oh and cornstarch is gmo now. And baking powder has aluminum in it. (the store kind). Jello pudding is gmo also and Heinz puts that statement right on the package. I hate that as I loved their puddings for pies.

Angela Angell- You can now buy non gmo cornstarch, but it's a bit pricey. My grocery store sells it for a little over $12 for 16.oz. ;-)

I like it in coffee too. Really, it’s the only sweetener I like in coffee.
You can make your own pure vanilla extract by soaking vanilla beans in vodka or tequila in a glass bottle in the dark until it gets to the strength you want. you can reuse the beans by pouring off the liquid & adding more liquor. Always make in the dark.
Juanita, YES! That makes an excellent vanilla! ...and both ingredients last forever. Pretty cool!
Steve Allison
Expensive stuff like that can be found in Restaurant Supply stores in big bottles. Even if you have to buy a case, people won't usually turn down free stuff given in earnest.
You have to filter cheap vodka to make it worthwhile. Use a brita filter.
Wow! That is impressive!
How are your beans growing this year? Mine...too much rain!
Cattle panels work great for thornless blackberries too. My husband made an arch from one, and we picked blackberries all summer long off it.
I bought late discount bean starts...4 lil ones.. I used a shepards hook I had sooo many
Just want to say thank you for all the hard work and God bless you and your family
I asked a man who went thru the war in Holland.. what was one of the most useful product. His answer ? Cooking oil...
Yep. During war there are bodies laying all over the place. A little bit of oil, some salt and maybe hotsauce and you got yourself a great meal mmmmm :-p

Cocoa powder is good for 20 years plus if kept dry.
Make sure you put it in glass jars. The amber ones are great for keeping light out.
I will have to look for dried cocoa beans, I would think they may have an even longer shelf life?
try Cacaou, t think that is the spelling

I love when you mentioned those foods with "God created", we prep those food for the "End time".

2Cor 5:19- GOD WAS IN Christ Reconciling the world unto Himself
Col 2:9- For IN Him Dwelleth All the Fulness of the Godhead bodily.
The Son/Mediator = 2
Man ( Flesh)- Jesus
GOD(SPIRIT) JESUS
Did GOD die? No. He has No beginning and No ending.
The Son, Jesus,
Died for the sins of the world, was buried, and on the 3rd day GOD Raised Him From the dead, according to the scriptures.
Peace. ❤️ 🐑 ☀️
Seek the Truth!
You can just plant peppermint, lemon balm, garlic, chives, oregano or any strong smelling herbs around the outside of the house if you don't want bugs inside. I've been doing it for years
Not year-round...
How does that work? Bugs love those plants.
How do you plant mint without it growing everywhere? I would like to have this.
Just saw this in my recommendations...The TH-cam algorithm is about to send a huge blessing your way...
EastTennessee Expat that is great info! Ty!
Ground spices can be cooked in a little oil for maybe 5 minutes and it brings out their flavor. Learned that from Indian cooking.
and then what after? I need steps!
You use that oil or just the seasonings directly in another dish?
This is called blooming the spices
@@gopolarisstudio Yes. Just bloom the spices in the oil in your pan for whatever dish you're making. So, you do it dish by dish.

How can I know there is a God?
Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
Heaven... are we worthy?
Psalms 14:1 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. 2 The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. 3 They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned
Are we justified when living by the 10 commandments?
Romans 3:20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

Then are we doomed?
John 3:36 "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."
John 3:17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

How come?
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

Romans 5:19 For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.
Romans 5:21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
Titus 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

Isn't this kind of strange?
Acts 13:38 "Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses. 40 "Therefore take heed, so that the thing spoken of in the Prophets may not come upon you: 41 `BEHOLD, YOU SCOFFERS, AND MARVEL, AND PERISH; FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS, A WORK WHICH YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE, THOUGH SOMEONE SHOULD DESCRIBE IT TO YOU.' "
1 Corinthians 1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,
1 Corinthians 1:27 but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,
What should we do then?
Acts 16:30 and after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" 31 They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."
Mark 1:15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."
John 6:28 Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?" 29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent."

Romans 6:16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
Romans 7:6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.
Romans 8:12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- 13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Colossians 3:1 Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

Just scrape the mold off and eat
I thought maple syrup needed to be refrigerated after opening
@@newatthis50 No. Don't do that. Mold is mold and it permeates through the food even where you can't see it. Not worth the chance.
Also, use real maple syrup, not HFCS log cabin crap.
I had the same thing happen. I had assumed that it would stay good at room temperature like honey. I found out the hard way that once you open it (break the seal) then it must be refrigerated. That may be why people used to also make maple sugar.
Drank WW2 coffee in the Army , canned over 40 yrs and it was always great.
top ramin does go rancid
The things a man will do for a cup of Joe lol
My father had a cabinet where he had stored WWII canned goods. The brown bread was my favorite and sometimes he'd open a can .

What's the ratio of baking soda and cream of tartar?

My dad grew up during the Great Depression, as the son of a tenant farmer. Cornstarch was used as a form of “dry shampoo,” sprinkled along the part and combed through to absorb the oil in the hair. He also used baking soda and water as an indigestion aid his whole life.
So the best when used by date is just a suggestion then and these things will go out far beyond that date?

Loved your video! (I'm new to prepsteaders today... this is just my third one)
Many of those foods that are only shelf stable for a year are still well worth having stockpiled.

Some of the things you talked about have expiry dates on them here in 🇨🇭 like sugar, honey and tea but I do not follow them at all. I believe they last longer. Thank you for validating my views. ❤
I keep buttermilk up to 6 months past expiration date for cooking. It is delicious the more it sours for pancakes, biscuits, breads etc

Very nice video! Vodka is also good for making herbal tincture for medicines.
and extracts like vanilla, etc.
Several infusions, including extracts are excellent using a good vodka
What is herbal Tincture for medicines. Like what kind of medicine? Medicine you make or Medicine you have like cough medicine or BC'S for a severe migraine. I would need some slerp medicine lol. I woukd no joke. What do you do if you need sleep medicine? I am serious. I honestly need to know.
What is herbal Tincture?
That makes a whole lotta sense, Sola Mano! A tiny bit of Diatomaceous earth thrown in with them helps kill off the bugs too. Thanks for the comment!
Happy Easter to you!
Smart lady! Listen to her.
Totally agree! Thanks for the comment, Marla!
You're right about the maple syrup, but it can be re-canned after opening.
You have said it well. It would certainly be better than nothing for those who love coffee. :) Thanks, Mike!
Yes!!! ☕️
How long can freezed dried coffee keep before opening.
John Stossel taught me that if you put plain popcorn in a paper bag and microwave it, it will pop. It's fantastic and not oily like the prepackaged microwave popcorn (and SOOOO much cheaper). Great video as always! Very helpful! Thank you and God bless!
When microwaves first came out, I remember my grandma had found a recipe for popping popcorn in a paper lunch bag in the microwave.
If I remember correctly, can goods will last up to 3 years beyond its due date as long as the structure of the can isn't compromised.
Longer...Last week I made salmon patties and homemade peach cobbler from cans dated 2012 & 2013. If stored in dry temperate conditions you're golden for
L O N G times, just check the cans for bulges, likely means it's gone bad. You also may loose up to 40% of its nutritional value and some discoloration but the product is definitely safe to eat AS LONG AS YOU CHECK THE CANS FIRST.
Had some tuna last month. Expired 2005.
The longest I ate was tomato soup 14 years after expiration at little flat but fine. .
You can grind popcorn when you need it. Since popcorn lasts indefinitely, you can make corn meal when you want it.
I have done that
U love cornmeal! 😂😊
I gotta try that!!
Also makes grits and polenta
Yeah, and with Cornmeal you can also make "Arepas" which is a typical delicious "Colombian" breakfast food instead of bread. Very simple and practical. Not a forever food but great maybe for the first few months when you can't buy bread anymore. All you need is 3 ingredients.
2 C fine grnd Cornmeal
2 1/2 C Water
1tsp. salt
Optional 1/4 C butter for buttery flavor.
*Or in a SHTF situation you can count on some Molly Mcbutter or Butterbuds powder flvoring.
Put cornmeal & salt into the water
Mix all to make a dough type
Make about fist size ball then flatten to at least 1/4 inch thick.
Cook over stove or grill until golden n crunchy. Delicioso!
This is gold. So much information in one little clip.
Jesus Loves you! Have a great day, and enjoy your lives as best you can!
true that! We don't have a lot left! Soon He will take us home!
You forgot dried mushrooms. When King Tuts tomb was opened the scientists found dried mushrooms, re hydrated them and ate them. They last forever.
Also honey was found, incredible
Myth where’s your source?
@@mistermylo7601 In a secret place! He would be a fool to tell you where to find 2K years old mushrooms!
Yea, but now they're cursed!!
Dehydrated food in general as well as cured meats. Smoked meats last 45 days
Gross, but fascinating! You actually tasted some of it?! I'm glad you're still alive. :)
Peanut butter goes rancid. Nuts in general will. So does oil. Yes, it takes a while, but it does go bad.
is why you keep seeds, keep planting then each year keeping newer seeds. And if nothing else, they make beautiful full green plants for any front door or balcony too! I plant like 25-40 peanuts in a nice round planter every year at door. oh what a beautiful plant. end of year when they dry out, i have peanuts when i pull them out to toss!
Too true. We always stored our nuts in the freezer.
@@MommaBearsCorner what zone are you in? Long summers?
Put it in the freezer to prolong its life.
@@amywalker7515 freezer is a good idea but if an emergency hits the light is the first to go. Then all your food goes bad.
I am a coffee connoisseur of sorts. Coffee in a vacuum sealed can lasts years, love! Thx for this informative piece. I never knew what ghee was!
I have lots of yeast in my freezer. It will keep for years in there. Just take out what you need. Let it get room temperature before using.
Love this video ! Very informative and well presented! Definitely subscribing ! God Bless !!
Again all your information is right on key I've been watching TH-cam I've been researching I've been looking up prepping for a year now
I just discovered your great videos.
I just want to know where you were raised so my children will be as articulate and well spoken as you.

Very encouraging video. The narrator is doing God's work by sharing her expertise
I'd never heard of "diatomaceous earth" till now. Thanks for sharing and I'll give it a try. I see DE has many healthy uses.
During WWI & WWII the Australian diggers would make a kind of hardtack biscuit from flour, butter, molasses, sugar & rolled oats. Both the flour and rolled oats were full of weevils but they ate them anyway simply for the protein.
The weevils are aerobic creatures so if stored in mylar with adequate oxygen absorbers, this shouldn't be a problem.
Wow...Thank you so much! I can't imagine losing that much food. 😓
The way prices have gone up again,
I'm just trying to get through this week.
I can understand the feeling. But if you just buy one thing. Extra. When you buy your groceries. You can build up a reverse. Slowly. But faster than you think
You can buy a 20 pound bag of white rice at Wal-Mart for under $8 and dried pinto beans in a 8 pound bag for under $6
Me 2 . I cant afford to stock on anything
@@deanfirnatine7814 I dont see the bulk rice the most I see is a 5 lb. Bag for 5 $:(
How are you doing now 😳😢
Thank you for making this video. I will be writing down all these items and begin saving jars.
I will never tell. ;)
Thanks for sharing, I learn so much from your channel, God bless!😊
Thank you, Elaine! God bless you too!
All excellent ways to prepstead, Rosie! Thank you for sharing!!!
Freezing dry pasta for a few days will help it last longer. Freezing kills the bug eggs.
Yum! Bug eggs for extra protein
can also rinse items like rice if you don't want the extra protein.
@Cheekygrrl that is a nasty neighbor!
I feel exactly the way you do on all the stuff you speak about... you are a huge blessing.
You are adorable and clever. I hope YOU last for a thousand years.
Lasting forever is Molasses, iron, minerals, sweetner. Can mix with all other sweetners too.
Carrol Anne Thompson - growing up it came in a can. Is that still the case?
Just found your channel. And I can already see it will be a huge blessing !
I clean with vodka, and also use it to make medicinal herbal tinctures=an essential!!! 😃
That’s pretty savvy 👌🏻
My guess is a Big Mac has 100 year shelf life! 😆
😂😂
So do Twinkies. 👍🏻
Dark colored glass jars (brown, green, blue) are always preferable to clear. I only buy EVOO in dark bottles. Keeps light from shortening the shelf life.
Use a layer of uncooked rice/or rock salt in the bottom of cookie jars, this will absorb any moisture.
I've had 8 year old coffee from a can that was absolutely fine.
Had been thinking to dry can some coffee...
This is great may I ask what brand it is.
Freeze it!
freeze dried unopened?
I think Instant Coffee lasts indefinitely. I’ve seen some 30 years old from an old MRE eaten
Hmmm what if you pour the oil out, does that extend the shelflife?
Rookie
I tried that once, and what remained resembled the stuff they fill potholes with, and tasted about as bad as I imagined (roadfill) to be.
Country Frau isn't that once sir hits it though? If you bought some for the purpose of stashing, resealed, like canned in a Mason jar and kept cool dark and dry it should last a very long time.
Can you do a video on repackaging long term foods from plastic to a glass container ? Thank you!
Watch a video on dry canning.
