How to Program Your Xfinity Remote Without the Code

- Have you ever needed to program a new TV or DVD player onto your Comcast/Xfinity remote but couldn't find your remote instruction manual with all the programing codes? Well, you don't need the programing codes to do it. This video will show you how to program your Xfinity remote to control a new TV without knowing the TV's program code.

I can attest that this worked for my TCL S425 TV! I simply turned on the TV with the Roku remote it came with, then began following the instructions. The TV turned off after about 6 presses of the Channel Up button. (Not sure whether that will apply to all identical TCL TVs with the XR11 remote.) You can skip the first 2:26 of the video. My remote can now control the volume, inputs, and power.
This process worked perfect. Thanks I tried about 27 five digit codes that didn't work your process works great Thanks again.
I usually don't comment on TH-cam videos but I wanted to say thank you so much for this excellent tutorial video. I contacted Xfinity Customer Support but they were extremely unhelpful. They could not help me program & pair my old XR2 remote to my XG4 cable box. Your tutorial worked like a charm. I've bookmarked and archived this video for future reference. Thanks again.

Didn't work for my LG tv that's only 2 years old. 😭
I pushed and held "setup" 'til light turned green... Pushed 991 (981 did NOT work for me, as someone posted, only 991). Clicked "channel up" between 325 and 350 times. (I did it several times, and have a bit of OCD, so yes, I counted, lol.) Every time, it eventually timed out and started to actually change the channel.

Thanks, my brother! I got a new Xfinity box last week and none of the codes worked to program the remote. Actually I returned another one of the boxes because the remote wouldnt register at all. Your instructions are wonderful. Thanks for going over it twice. Imagine my joy and relief when the very first time I touched channel up, the TV turned off. Could not believe it, but it worked like a charm. YMMD! 🙏🏽 👍🏽 btw it also works to change the TV input. I can switch between cable, fire stick and blue ray.

It was the same for me. Try typing 981 instead of 991 (after you complete that first 991 step) and once I pressed the channel button up three times it started changing the channel and the xfinity button completely worked.
First, thank you. After first attempting to try your programming process and noting the red/green light not illuminating, I changed the batteries in my remote. First problem, "fixed". Still, my remote lost its pairing as a result of the batteries dying, so I pressed forward with your process. I actually had to use your programming method about six or seven times because the on/off, volume, channel and mute commands did not program with the rest of the remote. The TV would only recognize my other remote for those commands. So I just repeated the process whether the TV was on or off, probably five or six more times. Then finally 100% of my remote responded. Second, by the time I found your video I was pretty frustrated. I appreciate the fact that your video is only five minutes in length; but, the first two minutes of your instruction video was agony for me to sit through as these remotes are typically set up by the cable provider and the pamphlet with the codes are long since filed. The reason for my lengthy comment is because 1) people may not realize the reason their remote ceased functioning is because the batteries are dead; and, 2) the remote program can fail for whatever reason and/or more than one attempt may be required to fully program the remote. Still I appreciate your content. Thank you.

Thanks... I've been trying to unlock the power and volume on my Xfinity remote for about 6mos and after watching this it unlocked everything. Now I can just use my Xfinity remote instead of using two remotes 🎉🎊

Can this remote be programed to a tv with full functionality? Like changing TV channels not from cable box..
OMG! We bought our Dad a Samsung to replace the Sony in his bedroom. I was on the phone twenty minutes with the Xfinity tech support and they weren't able to provide me with the correct code. I tried your suggestion and after two taps on the channel up button the remote was paired to the Samsung. BTW, my Dad has an XR2 remote. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

It’s setup, 991, then ch up until the tv goes off, then hit setup again. RCA and JVCs usually can’t pair with the x1 remote.

If I follow these steps, it properly programs my remote to work with my TV ... except I use a sound bar and I actually want the volume control on the remote to operate my sound bar, NOT my TV volume. How do I do that?

So this method isn’t only good if you don’t have code but also if have trouble pairing tv and reliever, I had codes and spent a hour on phone with Comcast then they sent me a new remote which didn’t resolve the problem . I used this to pair tv then used 992 for receiver problem solved. Thanks

What worked for me on theXR11 remote , I pushed the setup button for about 3 seconds then pushed Xfinity button, it gave me a 3 digit code after putting that in the remote worked.
