I'd rather live with the unfavorable consequences of free speech than the unfavorable consequences of overly restricted or compelled speech. I'd support a campaign to legally establish a UK version of the 1st amendment. It's a foundational human right and should be treated as truly inalienable.
Probably before they started the brainwashing. My son found it horrendous at uni for this type of thing. He was there 2013-2017. His friend who has just finished masters so been there ( different uni) 2013-2019 just spouts the rhetoric they are force fed
I was at Uni from 2005-09 and this sort of nonsense was still confined to the Student Union/Council playing at politics. They would try to get regular students to sign petitions and would talk of protests but the average student wanted nothing to do with it. It also helps that I was in science and this craziness started in the humanities departments (especially sociology)
It's interesting that even though you have just listened to, and on the whole agreed with, the points of this conversation, you believe that anyone of a different opinion to that of yourself must have been brainwashed.
There is no pandemic, just fear based control. Neil Oliver is a very intelligent and sensible human being. His shows are always great to watch and listen to and one of the very best presenters on TV.

I used to work for a lot of different London councils, and you are advised to keep your opinions to yourself, especially when it went against their agenda. At a meet and greet with Islington council, they could not stop stating how proud they were, that white British were a minority and it showed how diverse they were. also they are the smallest London borough with the most mental health issues. Hmm good selling point.
We desperately need a British bill guaranteeing freedom of speech like the US first amendment. People, understandably, think we have it enshrined in law as it stands. We don't!

I like Neil Oliver, 10 years ago when I still watched TV , I would watch every show, in which he was involved, I remember him taking the ancestry DNA test and he was something like 96% Scots descent, the joy on his face was very moving.. I am English with a Welsh surname...Mr Oliver is a rare jewel of free speech and should be coveted as such.
Neil Oliver speaks common-sense. I think the beginning of all this was "political correctness" which has ended up being the vehicle on which groups and individuals are actively look for opportunities to take offence. And "abuse" in any sense appears to fashionable - especially among celebrities and those in the public eye. Like Neil, I don't care if someone tries to offend me. I get exhausted thinking about what 'liberal' means today. It doesn't mean what the dictionary claims that it means: 'willing to respect or accept behaviour or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas'. There seems to be an attitude that anyone who doesn't subscribe to what is 'accepted' opinion is not to be allowed to express their views..
I remember when Oliver looked into the Irish famine,and explained that also happened into parts of Scotland, and how the Scots worked together, and so were less effected. Traditionalist about the famine wanted him crucified.
I don't want anyone stepping in to stop someone offending me - I want to know who I am dealing with - and what if the person is speaking the truth about me? I need to know so I can change for better. This is clearly not to protect minority groups but to stop conservative thought being heard.
