Same age but bought the PS1 purely after seeing TR1 being played by a games shop owner (before GAME etc took over our highstreets). I take it the then GF didnt survive this far with you too. 🤣

I’m so lucky to have experienced Tomb Raider as a kid when these games first debuted. I hope the newer generations who haven’t experienced it will keep an open mind - it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Your commentary is absolutely beautiful. It’s amazing how so many of us have these same feelings and memories and are connected through these games and the experiences they blessed us with.

@@Raidercast As long as they finish Angel of Darkness first. I don't want them to release it as is in such an unfinished state. Square's mistake forcing its early release well before it was finished had forever tarnished my view of Square Enix.
Seeing as some the animations are borrowed from 4 and 5 it’s likely they are going to do another set of trilogy remaster with 4,5,6(angel of darkness) to complete the core design collection and also maybe if this release sales a a lot(which I believe it well) they might release a limited run release of a complete boxed version with all the core design games and naming it the “core design tomb raider adventures” I don’t know it’s just a idea
I had that weird sensation that the new graphics looks exactly as I remember the original graphics, then I flip back to the original graphics and they look so different. They've done an amazing job of updating the look while honouring the original.
Since they went through all this effort to bring these games back, something tells me they will patch all bugs they find and implement feedback. It's obvious that they appreciate the fans and are fans themselves.
Okay, even if they need to be tweaked to your liking, I am kind of surprised how well the modern controls seem to fit the games! And I am glad that it actually seems like a good remaster and not just a cash grab! Can't wait to play on the 14th!
That crouch roll, I swear that was something TRLE makers created! Unless I just never found it in 4 or Chronicles. These are amazing looks at the Remasters. Thanks Chris! Looking forward to falling in love with this trilogy all over again 😀
I think I’ve seen that crouch roll in a TR3 video before the game was released, it was just scrapped from the final game I believe. Not entirely sure it was from TR3, but it has always been official just scrapped.
@@MayModnar Just watched Steven3517's walkthrough of TR3 and my jaw hit the floor when I saw her roll while crouching. I played TR3, Last Revelation, and Chronicles (where I know rolling off ledges while crouching was introduced) on PS1 when I was a kid. How in the world did I never know that was in those games?!?! 😖
@@Takejiro24 There's a mod for PC for TR3 that fixes a lot of things in one, including the restored crouch roll, so that's probably what they used. When I played 4 with a similar mod, the crouch roll wasn't working and I was confused, but it seems it was only introduced officially in 5
I'm not even remotely embarrassed to say that I did weep a little when I started playing the TR1 remaster this afternoon. I was so paranoid that it wouldn't work on my laptop, especially after the first launch of the game resulted in a blank screen(!). Thankfully it launched immediately second time around. That initial surprise at seamlessly alternating between the original and remastered modes blew me away. Like you, I'm spending so much time exploring the new designs. Its fantastic. I honestly couldn't have imagined playing this (with tank controls, of course) back in '96. It's the game Anniversary should have been IMO. I cannot wait to see the rest of the game and the sequels.
I can already tell that playing through these remasters will be a religious cathartic experience for me............. What you said in the end is so apt!!! It's like we took for granted that we'll never feel the magic of these memories again, but somehow the magic is back and there is no better feeling. Every frame of this gameplay fills me with an incomprehensible levels of joy. So grateful that we got to re-experience this in our lifetimes. Happy launch week!

Like going over the modern controls, showing certain level elements, the last minute ledge grab, THE CRAWL FLIP!!!, and a secret after beating the game! That final explanation made me tear up with excitement and happiness. Wish I could change outfits in levels tbh. That and making the water more... colored, and surfaced. Prob my only wants! Looking handsome af today btw! Great beard!
So exciting! I just starting playing the classics over a year ago on PC (the save anytime especially on 1 and 3 is a major quality of life improvement for me). I preordered it on Steam and Switch when it was 1st announced in September. The lighting looks phenomenal!
I love everything about these remasters. Everything is AMAZING. The only cons I’ve noticed so far is not being able to select outfits to play in is lame, as well as TR2 missing the cloth background is a huge issue. I hope these are fixed or added later. Anyway, I’m so happy all the major TR channels for to try this out early, super happy for you all! Can’t wait for us all to start playing!

Not me getting tearful watching this review 😭 I’m honestly so excited to meet Lara again. I went with the Switch version so that I could experience adventures anywhere. Hearing your thoughts and seeing those little bits of gameplay have just made the hype so very real. When you said about the final levels of TR2, I cannot wait! To see the Temple of Xian, Floating Islands and the Dragon’s Lair… the child in me is so excited! 💛

Playing these is going to be like a fewer dream. It looks so good, but also it's not at all too much - a really respectful tribute to the classics. I adore how they give us, the players, the choice to choose between the old and new (graphics, controls...). It's the right way to go about these things. I can't believe this is finally happening!
I was crying at the end, because i felt how you feel. Same as you as a kid Lara was my best friend, helped me feel better and more confident (im gay)my life was a little rough but playing these games make me feel more powerful and strong. Im so happy to hug my old friend Lara again. And fingers crossed to have 4 and 5 in the future
I feel so happy and a tad emotional seeing the classics resurface, I love Lara so much and I always will. I will dedicate a tiktok channel to classic Lara, and her adventures I don't care who watches, as long as I can focus on what made Lara great I'm happy. It's such an amazing time to be alive and yes I feel like I've met an old friend who I thought has passed away but she just popped up and greets me with the warmest welcome like she was never gone.
This is such a great moment for the Tomb Raider community, I love it! Finally the remasters are (almost) here! A lot of fans will now have the chance to experience the expansion packs for the first time too (which are great). definitely gonna buy this! and as someone who played TR3 MANY times in my early teens, this is such a wonderful tribute to the OG Lara Croft we all love and grow up with!
I just pre-ordered the thing. After seeing a few of these videos, it seems that this is the same kind of care and love we got from the Command & Conquer remaster a few years back - faithful to the original while bringing something new to the table. Can't wait to relive and replay these games, and like you, experience the expansions as well. I've remember that I never managed to get TR1 Gold to work with 3D acceleration, so that's really something I'm looking forward to.

This is a real "pinch me" moment. I'm so happy they done this and not potentially ruin the legacy of these games by doing remakes. Feels like the 90's all over again and getting to experience these gems again for he first time
This is why I sub to your channel - a level-headed review that avoids sensationalism and yet really shows the love you have for the franchise. My first TR game was Anniversary (which is one of my favorite games of all time) so this is my perfect chance to go through the first three games I never really had the chance/motivation to sit down and do before. As a first timer to the "tank" controls I really appreciate the breakdown here; wish I'd had it before getting 3-4 hours into the first game though 😂

17:47 I wish they made her braid more of a 3D model where it physically interacts with her backpack and body realistically. It looks like it has so kind of Ai functions with it, where it stretches out and in at times. But who cares, the game is still beautifully done!! 😊

Angel of darkness needs alot of work 🤣. But yes a more modern (actually playable) version would be great. I've got a feeling this remaster is going to do rather well, hopefully prompting them to remaster the next bunch.

I grew up with these games, first played TR1 on a Sega Saturn in Woolworths, if that doesn't age me I dont know what does! I'm so happy they are as good as they are, a dream come true.
This is how you touch up old classics without losing any of the charm. TR3's 1st level is utterly stunning in the way it captures a long lost huge temple with the jungle taking over and crazy pathways to navigate. Of the "new" TR games...Lara Croft Go captured the haunting beauty of the old games quite nicely. The 3 "new" reboots of TR were a travesty of epic proportions.The less said the better.
You literally made me cry when you said that it's like meeting an old friend who you never thought you'd see again. This is exactly how it feels and I'm so grateful we have these beautifully and lovingly crafted remasters. This gets me beyond emotional, these games are special.
Love how sentimental you got because this is exactly how I feel but only difference is that I NEVER played these classics. I just couldn’t with the tank controls. Tried many times & gave up. Now with modern controls I am halfway TR1 & as happy as a little kid on Xmas morning. I have beautiful months ahead of me. Thank you for the great vids.

19:20 I can't believe they brought back the TR5 Crawl sommersault, this absolutely amazing, along with mid-air roll in TR1, and also exiting crawlspaces forward. What I considered wishful thinking & unrealistic expectations actually became a reality. Now all we need is an unlockable cheat to enable sprinting in TR1 and TR2 :) Also, I think I underestimated how much of a useful tool the Photo Mode will be, for navigating the environment. Thank you so much Chris for sharing your thoughts, seeing you on that couch barely containing your excitement was a treat, and enjoy the Expansion levels at your own pace, The Lost Artifact expansion levels are the pinnacle of classic Tomb Raiders
No way I'm using the modern controls. I feel like the tank controls are an integral part of the puzzle experience the original games offered. You had to calculate most of your jumps and that added a lot of fun. I'm glad they've added the option for new players but I feel it takes a lot away from the original experience. Can't wait for tomorrow!
I've been waiting for this gem since I first heard about it last year. Cannot wait to play through and see the differences they've made. Levels like the Atlantis pyramid from tr1 and the Maria Doria in tr2 come to mind. Can't wait.
I have been on TRF since I was about 18 and was there for everything from Legend to the reboot, then I just dropped off the forums and from TR for many years. I always dreamt of a remaster of these old games and I just can't believe it's happening I have sooo many emotions over it. I'm now almost 36 *cries* I can see your passion in the video, warms my heart. I think we all feel very similarly. Thanks for explaining the modern controls. I think I will stick to the old ones, I'm too used to them, but shall give the modern ones a shot.

Some good details: - Lara blink. - Lara fingers animation. - More detailed landscapes with puddles (20:14), dark (20:06), animated vegetation (8:54) -There is still blood when you take damage. - Enemies still don't disappear when you kill them. - Excellent new moves (8:05) (19:21). - Action indicators, well... it's good. - Switch between new and classic graphics. Some bad details: - 11:10 The songs keep being interrupted by others. - Lara's Shotgun in TR3 is a Spas-12 no a Mossberg like in the TR1 and 2. - The under water effect should be darker. - The Lara's ponytail goes through her backpack and has a little bug (1:12). - (Personal) I'll miss that dark (16:09), mainly in the T-Rex fights, and the Yetis and Sasquatch encounters.
I have 100%'ed every single TR game, so I am looking forward to this, I bought a PS1 with Tomb raider as my first games console and game and was instantly hooked so I have been so keen on this re release since I heard about it. Cant wait!
Can't wait to play tomb raider 2 its going be like Nov 1997 all over for me again when i qued up to to buy the game back then over 25 years ago. That same feeling is back with the upcoming remaster. I've booked Wednesday of so I can enjoy this all again and love it all again. ♥️
@@Raidercast I was around 25/26 when tomb raider came out back in 96 and my journey of Lara croft started from their, my favourite is tomb raider 2, the soundtrack, puzzles everything, spend many nights until 2am in the morning trying to beat the next level, great times indeed! I'm 51 now and the nostalgia of coming back to tomb raider 2 that holds a special place in my heart of the early PlayStation 1 days ♥️😎
Can it really be that we’re actually getting something genuinely good for once without huge walloping caveats? I’m so used to disappointments with everything I look forward to nowadays. It’ll be nice to have something that’s a genuine delight. I also played Unfinished Business but not the other expansions aside from a demo of Golden Mask. Looks like they’ve done these remasters right and Wednesday can’t get here fast enough.
Oh my goodness.. I've been playing since midnight when it was released, and I am absolutely dying and in love.❤ The nostalgia, the beauty of Lara, and the memories come flooding back to when I was sitting in my attic as a kid surrounded by pop group posters. (mainly Spice girls😂) playing Tomb Raider. She looks exactly how I would imagine her to look in the original in every.❤
I'm so excited to revisit Classic TR and finally get to play the DLCs that I never got to experience in the originals! The glow up looks amazing! I think I'll stick to Tank controls though 🤣 These games gave me so much joy when they were originally released, I played the beta of the original with my cousin and we would take it in turns to play each level, while the other back seat tomb raided 😂 and it was so much fun. I literally haven't played any of the classics since they launched back in the 90s so it's going to take some getting used to but I am here for the nostalgia!
Crystal Dynamics really went all the way with publicity here! all TR review channels gave us the 1st level of each installment... these are the chosen ones that got an early peak
These were the first of not seen before graphics and these were amazing for their time and that music takes me right back, I will be getting this remaster.

I've only played TR 1 on the SEGA Saturn. Then on my Xbox(s) Legend, Underworld, Anniversary, and the first two of the survivor series. I finally after all these years am able to play parts 2 and 3 on my Xbox!

I was anxious about these remasters as well, especially after what utter disasters GTA and Mafia were.

The getting out of a crawling space move specifically, is from Chronicles. Now the crouch rolls whenever you want, could be trle 😊

Anniversary was a remake though, not a remaster. I'm thankful we got both 😊

So exciting! I just starting playing the classics over a year ago on PC (the save anytime especially on 1 and 3 is a major quality of life improvement for me). I preordered it on Steam and Switch when it was 1st announced in September. The lighting looks phenomenal!
I love everything about these remasters. Everything is AMAZING. The only cons I’ve noticed so far is not being able to select outfits to play in is lame, as well as TR2 missing the cloth background is a huge issue. I hope these are fixed or added later. Anyway, I’m so happy all the major TR channels for to try this out early, super happy for you all! Can’t wait for us all to start playing!
The outfits could be unlocks for gathering secrets. I hope so anyway

Not me getting tearful watching this review 😭 I’m honestly so excited to meet Lara again. I went with the Switch version so that I could experience adventures anywhere.
Hearing your thoughts and seeing those little bits of gameplay have just made the hype so very real. When you said about the final levels of TR2, I cannot wait! To see the Temple of Xian, Floating Islands and the Dragon’s Lair… the child in me is so excited! 💛

Playing these is going to be like a fewer dream. It looks so good, but also it's not at all too much - a really respectful tribute to the classics. I adore how they give us, the players, the choice to choose between the old and new (graphics, controls...). It's the right way to go about these things. I can't believe this is finally happening!

Same as you as a kid Lara was my best friend, helped me feel better and more confident (im gay)my life was a little rough but playing these games make me feel more powerful and strong.

I feel so happy and a tad emotional seeing the classics resurface, I love Lara so much and I always will.
I will dedicate a tiktok channel to classic Lara, and her adventures I don't care who watches, as long as I can focus on what made Lara great I'm happy. It's such an amazing time to be alive and yes I feel like I've met an old friend who I thought has passed away but she just popped up and greets me with the warmest welcome like she was never gone.
This is such a great moment for the Tomb Raider community, I love it! Finally the remasters are (almost) here! A lot of fans will now have the chance to experience the expansion packs for the first time too (which are great). Hopefully, also completely new players will buy/try out these games and will like them...🙏 For now, thanks for this pre-review Chris!
definitely gonna buy this! and as someone who played TR3 MANY times in my early teens, this is such a wonderful tribute to the OG Lara Croft we all love and grow up with!
I just pre-ordered the thing. After seeing a few of these videos, it seems that this is the same kind of care and love we got from the Command & Conquer remaster a few years back - faithful to the original while bringing something new to the table. Can't wait to relive and replay these games, and like you, experience the expansions as well. I've remember that I never managed to get TR1 Gold to work with 3D acceleration, so that's really something I'm looking forward to.

My first TR game was Anniversary (which is one of my favorite games of all time) so this is my perfect chance to go through the first three games I never really had the chance/motivation to sit down and do before. As a first timer to the "tank" controls I really appreciate the breakdown here; wish I'd had it before getting 3-4 hours into the first game though 😂

17:47 I wish they made her braid more of a 3D model where it physically interacts with her backpack and body realistically. It looks like it has so kind of Ai functions with it, where it stretches out and in at times. But who cares, the game is still beautifully done!! 😊

Angel of darkness needs alot of work 🤣. But yes a more modern (actually playable) version would be great. I've got a feeling this remaster is going to do rather well, hopefully prompting them to remaster the next bunch.

I grew up with these games, first played TR1 on a Sega Saturn in Woolworths, if that doesn't age me I dont know what does! I'm so happy they are as good as they are, a dream come true.

This is how you touch up old classics without losing any of the charm.
TR3's 1st level is utterly stunning in the way it captures a long lost huge temple with the jungle taking over and crazy pathways to navigate.
Of the "new" TR games...Lara Croft Go captured the haunting beauty of the old games quite nicely.
The 3 "new" reboots of TR were a travesty of epic proportions.The less said the better.
LC GO was such a fantastic game 🥰
You literally made me cry when you said that it's like meeting an old friend who you never thought you'd see again. This is exactly how it feels and I'm so grateful we have these beautifully and lovingly crafted remasters. This gets me beyond emotional, these games are special.

I played the original TR when I was 12. I rented it from Blockbuster. Been a fan ever since. I am so glad to see Lara is back.
Love how sentimental you got because this is exactly how I feel but only difference is that I NEVER played these classics. I just couldn’t with the tank controls. Tried many times & gave up. Now with modern controls I am halfway TR1 & as happy as a little kid on Xmas morning. I have beautiful months ahead of me. Thank you for the great vids.

19:20 I can't believe they brought back the TR5 Crawl sommersault, this absolutely amazing, along with mid-air roll in TR1, and also exiting crawlspaces forward.
What I considered wishful thinking & unrealistic expectations actually became a reality.
Now all we need is an unlockable cheat to enable sprinting in TR1 and TR2 :)
Also, I think I underestimated how much of a useful tool the Photo Mode will be, for navigating the environment.

No way I'm using the modern controls. I feel like the tank controls are an integral part of the puzzle experience the original games offered. You had to calculate most of your jumps and that added a lot of fun. I'm glad they've added the option for new players but I feel it takes a lot away from the original experience. Can't wait for tomorrow!
I've been waiting for this gem since I first heard about it last year. Cannot wait to play through and see the differences they've made. Levels like the Atlantis pyramid from tr1 and the Maria Doria in tr2 come to mind. Can't wait.

I have been on TRF since I was about 18 and was there for everything from Legend to the reboot, then I just dropped off the forums and from TR for many years. I always dreamt of a remaster of these old games and I just can't believe it's happening I have sooo many emotions over it. I'm now almost 36 *cries* I can see your passion in the video, warms my heart. I think we all feel very similarly. Thanks for explaining the modern controls. I think I will stick to the old ones, I'm too used to them, but shall give the modern ones a shot.

- More detailed landscapes with puddles (20:14), dark (20:06), animated vegetation (8:54)
-There is still blood when you take damage.
- Enemies still don't disappear when you kill them.
- Excellent new moves (8:05) (19:21).
- Action indicators, well... it's good.
- Switch between new and classic graphics.
Some bad details:
- 11:10 The songs keep being interrupted by others.
- Lara's Shotgun in TR3 is a Spas-12 no a Mossberg like in the TR1 and 2.
- The under water effect should be darker.
- The Lara's ponytail goes through her backpack and has a little bug (1:12).
- (Personal) I'll miss that dark (16:09), mainly in the T-Rex fights, and the Yetis and Sasquatch encounters.
Seems like classic controls are a must. Having to workaround a long jump just doesn’t work. Games weren’t designed for it.
I have 100%'ed every single TR game, so I am looking forward to this, I bought a PS1 with Tomb raider as my first games console and game and was instantly hooked so I have been so keen on this re release since I heard about it.

Can't wait to play tomb raider 2 its going be like Nov 1997 all over for me again when i qued up to to buy the game back then over 25 years ago. That same feeling is back with the upcoming remaster. I've booked Wednesday of so I can enjoy this all again and love it all again. ♥️

@@Raidercast I was around 25/26 when tomb raider came out back in 96 and my journey of Lara croft started from their, my favourite is tomb raider 2, the soundtrack, puzzles everything, spend many nights until 2am in the morning trying to beat the next level, great times indeed! I'm 51 now and the nostalgia of coming back to tomb raider 2 that holds a special place in my heart of the early PlayStation 1 days ♥️😎

Can it really be that we’re actually getting something genuinely good for once without huge walloping caveats? I’m so used to disappointments with everything I look forward to nowadays. It’ll be nice to have something that’s a genuine delight.
I also played Unfinished Business but not the other expansions aside from a demo of Golden Mask. Looks like they’ve done these remasters right and Wednesday can’t get here fast enough.

The nostalgia, the beauty of Lara, and the memories come flooding back to when I was sitting in my attic as a kid surrounded by pop group posters. (mainly Spice girls😂) playing Tomb Raider. She looks exactly how I would imagine her to look in the original in every.❤
I'm so excited to revisit Classic TR and finally get to play the DLCs that I never got to experience in the originals! The glow up looks amazing! I think I'll stick to Tank controls though 🤣 These games gave me so much joy when they were originally released, I played the beta of the original with my cousin and we would take it in turns to play each level, while the other back seat tomb raided 😂 and it was so much fun. I literally haven't played any of the classics since they launched back in the 90s so it's going to take some getting used to but I am here for the nostalgia!
Crystal Dynamics really went all the way with publicity here! all TR review channels gave us the 1st level of each installment... these are the chosen ones that got an early peak

I have an outrageous opinion...TR2 is one of the greatest games of all time...and classic tank controls are genius!
These were the first of not seen before graphics and these were amazing for their time and that music takes me right back, I will be getting this remaster.

I've only played TR 1 on the SEGA Saturn. Then on my Xbox(s) Legend, Underworld, Anniversary, and the first two of the survivor series. I finally after all these years am able to play parts 2 and 3 on my Xbox!
