And that hi-hat work at 2:28 was fantastic too. All these guys are great instrumentalists.
i think its probably smoother because it doesn't incorporate the bass drum a lot.
This music is so relaxing x3
This guy is great and I appreciate any free advice! I'm a veteran of 35 years and can still learn!
this is really cool. jazz amazes me
I was smiling through this whole video, that was absolutely great. I've been a guitar player for quite a while and I'm just starting drums tomorrow, and this has given me a new inspiration for both the instruments. Jazz is so beautiful.
I love how chill the drummer is
he's so in the zone
I've never enjoyed jazz as much as seeing it being played. Smiling throughout the whole video! Great job!
2:02 I love the little connection between the drummer and the bassist. They both look at eachother and smile like two teenagers in love.
I was a bit blue when I started watching. Not anymore.
Thank god for music :)
I love how each instrument has a solo section...This is so inspiring
The part that starts at 1:55 will be stored inside my brain until the day I die. Absolutely brilliant drumming.
4 great musicians in one room = this
I'm not usually a fan of Jazz, but i admit, i Love this piece! I play drums but this guy is awesome!
you can tell he's a great player. He's just having fun with the kit
jazz drumming is by far the most technical.
I need to get into more jazz. Any recommendations ppl?
love the sound of the kit. watched this guys vid on tuning and stuff-he knows what hes doing
I like this and I,ve chosen this video as it,s "play along" to make some comments.
There is so much more to drumming than flams drags and paradiddles I,ve yet
to visit a tutorial that covers the aspect of backing soloists which mainly what
drumming is all about. We are not soloists in the main and so should concentrate
on enhancing the playing of the sax ,
trumpet or whatever. Believe me after 62 yrs.
of drumming the guys out front will thank you for it and you will be sort after.
More later!
wow the part where they traded fours really helped me out with a little concert i had to play today! thanks!
Man this studio sounds good considering they're all playing together live.
the beats at are awesome 1:55 .. great:)
That was the money shot in the history of recent drumming!
He sure keeps those solos swinging!
this song is so freaking niceeeee! need to listen to more stuff like this!
thats awesome!
my favorite jams in freedrumlesson!
i like how the bass player doing swing jazz pattern n solo
I don't think you're right.. He's playing the bass drum a lot but dinamics are all there. Mike can really play it smooth when he wants to, amazing! I can't control my bass drum's volume that well...damn!
I think this guy is pretty good. I really like the sing sing sing type thing on the low tom in one part of his solo.
Flat wound strings can be steel as well. I hear a magnetic pickup located near the bridge though. Definitely a magnetic pickup but a touch of piezo as well. Really cool tone.
It doesn't really matter who's right, we can all agree this guy sounds good.
The bass player kicks ass really. His bass doesn´t have freds on it ! :D
That takes some skills to know a 24 freded bass so damn right, as he do.
My friend, you seriously are a great drummer...
7osh
I think my favorite part of this site is the 'play along' section in the title~ if you can play along, I want to hire you!
It's like a feeling if ur loving ur beat. My face sometimes does the same when I drum and wen i really feel the music and im enjoying the feel of it
sooo good....that high hat fill at 2:26 wasss aweesomemmee
Very nice. Great to see Jody Fisher on guitar too!
--Eric E.
What are you talking about? This is delightful.
wooooow!! Awesome!! this song... I LIKE IT! i love guitar jazz!
out of all them the bass player is the best
Baterista bacana! Curti
Excellent guys. Swing it !
dear God they're amazing:)
This is all together a great song.
to Grungedude: Mhmm.. Thats prolly actually the best sounding Fretless bass i've heard. and thatpiano sounds amazing.
Also, for a yamaha kit, It sounds awesome
The sing sing sing bit was awesome.
The biggest issues I found when I used to play traditional grip primarily were a) it's MUCH harder to maintain, you have to practise a LOT not to lose your top-end power and speed, and it's also more awkward for moving around the kit. Fortunately, however, Virgil Donati was my inspiration so I still made it work :) I've been playing matched primarily since about 2005 now, though, it's just working better for me these days.
i dont know whos the bass guy, but he is so good, play like that on a fret less, so nice
Yes and if you are learning this is great to get your feel trying to copy Blakey will do your head in , like learning piano to Monk . these lessons are starters get the contex right.
how the hell is a starter drummer going to learn. Good video.
You made my day!!:)
Nice, you use Rich's tecnique, and a tom combination like Krupa's one!
awesome jam
such a clean ending
Traditional grip gives the left hand more finesse but less power (arguably) than a matched grip. Since a lot of moving around the kit is done with the right hand, the left hand doesn't get away from the snare so often, so it's not so important that the two have equal range and power around the whole kit. Also, a lot of jazz drumming calls for cross-sticking, especially in Latin styles, and this is much easier to swap to with a traditional grip. In the end, though, it's preference all the way.
@PJWTh3R41N so true, im a rock drummer, and theres nothing like a good jazz player. rock gets hard when it gets hard, but usually its not really that bad. jazz, another world. :)
Arguably, man. There is quite a bit of drumming out there that can easily be on par with jazz (often due to jazz influences, but not to be ignored.) drumming as well. I mean, odd meter can be confusing for anything...
I could name quite a few bands with some odd but unique patterns though worth checking out..Slipknot and all that isn't all that technical though. Blasting is what it is, it's cool musically (when applied well) and it takes a lot of chops.
Extreme drumming and jazz are different.
This is awesome
WTF!!!!!!! the day I can play this is the that the world will end !!
jazz is always the way to make me feel alot better
=] its sume wierd odd reason but in a good sense =]
doesnt bore me at all =]
Definitely. They do death metal, latin, egyptian, and soft music; that's it. Check out The Flower Kings. They play more styles than any prog band I know. I love them all though. Reputable opinion though.
so much amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
very great dude
pinstripe inst that good for jazz.
more rock type heads.
evans j1 or aquarian satin coated are great for jazz. aswell i recomend the remo vintage A or Aquarian Super 2 Coated for the snare.
Yes! Fret-less Bass Guitar!
love the guitar =)
I've been playing close to 6 years. Still very hard to get that double stop. But I just recently tried.
So Jazz !!
for the people who said metal druming is crap, check out arsis or necrophagist. if you think that the drumming in those bands latest albums is crap, or any part of the music rather... you are either in denial or deaf dumb and blind to technical prowess.
you dont have to listen to our music. we like it that way.
but us smart metalers dont insult your musicians as a whole or make ourselves out to be better than you.... even though we play the most physically challenging music there is. thanks.
LOVE IT
very impressive
wow this is good.
Jody Fischer on guitar! Yay!
I like the guitar :D
It's a Steinberger, although I've never seen one with such a strange body.
A good example of Steinberger guitars is Cynic's Traced in Air and Focus. Both guitarist use them.
Jodi Fisher! Never heard him playing with a band before.
Dude, he rocks......er? Jazzes? :\ He's awesome.
these guys are great, bull sh*t free and ust having fun making music, wish me & my fellas were half as good.
i love that guitarist. he is really good. you should check him out. I dont know his name though...
that is soooooo ard to get the feal you do well done :P
poco swing,la figura del ride es like a samba.aprende antes de dar clases.feliz navidad.
@NoPro32 your local drum shop should carry yamaha, if not guitar center, but if your like me you don't prefer corporate places to shop, also google five star drum shops to see if there is one near you, usually the best advice and the cheapest prices
this song have to be "The Sims" OST! 1 word: WOW
lmao 1:55.
Sounded like something off 'Sing, Sing, Sing'.
wow... I play drum (Specially Rock and Metal, Power Metal) and let me tell you that Jazz is way more technical than any other music style. Sorry to learn you that.
@MrZol: In jazz you don't use the bass drum like you do in rock. in a rock beat you use the bass drum to keep time where as in jazz you use the hi-hat
Check out progressive rock and progressive metal. That is great musicianship as well as jazz. They incorporate jazz, rock, eastern music, tribal and the list goes on. It's more of a musical journey, really fascinating.
Dream Theater, The Flower Kings and Opeth(Damnation- record) is a good start.
It's the headstock and that's because he can! It's probably easier to travel with or something.
While his elitist attitude is kind of messed up, he has a point. I love a wide array of music (rock and jazz included) and the purity of Jazz is always pretty cool. Nothing but you're own personal style carrying you, not crazy, innovative distortion or effects.
@lucasloud it's common for swing to become straighter as it gets faster. at this speed he's swinging just fine.
@DKMoonwalker In terms of speed, yes. Jazz drummers have metal drummers beat time signature wise for sure.
And this a metal drummer speakin fyi.
the intro sounds like Wes Montgomery's Impressions. Give it a listen.
Hello Mike, thanks a lot for your very instructive vids ! it's really very clear and very simple and helpful ! guys you play with you in this vid are very good too ! can yoy me what are your two biggest cymbals that you use like ride ccymb ( brand, reference, size ? ) I think they are Zildjian K but i'm not sure ? thanks for your asnwer
( sorry for my english i'm french )
hey nice job......and what ride is that im looking to get a new one for more lighter stuf like jazz.
what bass is that?
and love that headless guitar!
its a yamaha..dont know about the snare but im pretty sure that hes got coated ambassadores on the drums you can see..maybe an emperor on the snare
@HeadsAreRolling you can listen to the yellowjackets a great jazz fusion band. In the old stuff I can recomand you Miles Davis wich was a genius. So if you need more information send a request and I give you what you want.
Headstock. Some guitars are just like that. The tuning mechanism is down on the bottom. A bit of a different feel I guess. They have all kinds of crazy designs for guitars.
Dunno but man the guitarist is awesome =)
i Would like some of theese jazz drum fills in the fills section please... some of them are really cool ;s
Jewelry boutique music
Loved everything but the bass solo
cara so maestro kkkkkkkkkkkkkk
you can get the drumless track on the site
Very good magnific (:
