  • Hey everyone, in this video, I take a trip over to Tunstead Quarry in Buxton (Derbyshire) on the morning of Sunday 11th September 2016. After parking up on a nearby lay-by located near to the Tarmac office, I then walk through a public footpath which leads through some fields towards the Tunstead Quarry works. This was the first time I had been through the public footpath, so was unsure of what sort of shots I would be able to capture both on my camera and camcorder.
As you will see, I was not disappointed as once at the top of the public footpath the quarry complex could easily be seen. During the journey through the public footpath we managed to catch a few Lomas Distribution trucks that were arriving and departing the quarry, as well as spotting Freightliner class 66 'Bill Bolsover' (66623) which not only was painted in the blue colour scheme, but featured the new Freightliner livery. Also spotted were some Tarmac-Buxton Lime cement tankers which the class 66 had brought into the quarry before being uncoupled and taken into the works sidings by one of the quarry's diesel shunters, and also parked up in the sidings were some Freightliner HIA Heavy Haul aggregate limestone hoppers both in green and white livery, and were fully loaded. You will also see some of the quarry machinery in operation.
Footage in this video was filmed by my dad, as I was taking photos with my Canon EOS 100D DSLR during the morning. If anyone wishes to see the photos that I took, please check out and like my Facebook page @ IMS Freelance Photography
I also visited the quarry as I aim to try and incorporate a quarry scene based on Tunstead into the new house loft layout so this will be mentioned in a layout update video nearer the time

I think watching all the years of Time Team on TH-cam here in the US, whenever I see towns in the UK I immediately wonder... "where did the Romans set up shop?" Just looked it up, of course there were Romans and they enjoyed the warm springs!
You're fortunate to live in a place with so much history!

You must be doing the vice-versa to me John, I always watch programs on TV about the USA and hopefully I will be able to visit your country one day

It's a small world! Though (sadly) much of it is overlooked, there are a lot of ties to the British from the Revolutionary War here on Long Island, NY.

i am the rail Sidings Supervisor at Tunstead and ' poppy ' is 66614. the loco Tarmac CRH named to commemorate the loss of ' the buxton lads ' in the battle of the somme. i presumed your avatar and knowledge of ' bill bolsover ' and ' hoppers ' meant you were a rail buff.

I am a train enthusiast but never knew about the class 66 that was named by Tarmac. Bill Bolsover I previously saw at Basford Hall Freightliner in Crewe during an open day a few years ago now. Your job role sounds very interesting, how much freight traffic do you have to deal with on a day to day basis coming in and out of the works? Every time I'm in Buxton now I always try to pop over to Peak Forest to do some filming as I really enjoy the freight movements there and watching the hoppers being loaded with the excavators

@@Class66Rocks we load between 45 and 50 trains a week on average at Tunstead, when you stand on the bridge watching the shovels loading the hoppers you're actually watching The Cemex quarry up the valley, You would be very lucky to catch sight of any of Tunsteads loading activities.

@@mickeywells8197 cheers for the detailed information mate. I bet you would see some of Tunstead Quarry loading activities if your one of the tipper truck drivers, such as Lomas Distribution who run in & out of there frequently
