I loved making this! Thank you April. I hope its ok to add this but the measurements I used as a bigger person than April were: 45inches wide, 50 inches long, and 22 inches wide for each sleeve - (in hindsight I didn't need to make it so much wider than April but it is very huge and very cosy!!) hope thats helpful. I'm a UK size 12 and 5ft6.
So I’ve had one in my Amazon cart for weeks and was debating on whether to make it myself or buy it, and then this video comes along lol. I want mines to drape the floor 😂
Definitely recommend making it. You find more diverse fabrics in fabric stores thab you do with the garments already made by a company. I highly recommend it. I copied a pair of sweat pants and made matching sets for in home pajamas or just sweats to wear for quick errands. (I like my matching sets to be on the obnoxious side so you can only begin to guess) Theres also team fabrics if youre about the sporting event life and cant find your team's gear in your size or for your function. I personally think this is far cheaper than buying team merch. Endless possibilities for friends, family, and friends. Can do that matching pajama tradition for christmas with the same fabric for the whole family. I highly highly highly recommend making it yours.
"What's up everyone, my name is April and this week I'm going to show you how I made this awesome oversized hoodie blanket right here." I don't need to see the rest, take my thumbs up! 😍
Came at a perfect time. I was trying to figure out how to make it with my level of skill without a serger from your blanket coat video. Good thing I procrastinated
I just received one that is floor length on Monday. I love it. I want to make one as well now, a little more roomy than the one I received. Thank you so much!
You made that looks super easy. Saving this tutorial as well. Given the price of new fabric I might try using thrifted a blanket and sheet? Just a thought for others… thanks for sharing your talent.
It may not be as stunning as some of your gorgeous gowns. But this video was so satisfying because you’re creating comfort and nurturing for your own self.
I purchased one last year. It’s amazing-super warm, spacious, very comfortable. Affordable, but with a good Joann coupon or sale these could be quite affordable as well and a great gift. Thanks for the tutorial! I’m excited to try it out.
I used your video to sew another blanket for myself, using my oodie as a pattern. I made a few adjustments, like adding ribbed elastic cuffs, sewing the bottom edges right sides together and top stitching round the edge to finish it off and also the same for the pocket. Thank you for your tutorial! It was super easy to follow ☺️
Thanks so much for this! I have the next few days free and been looking for one of these for ages, but didn’t ever find one in the shops I liked. A few fleece blankets in the house that we don’t use so they will be my material for this project. It’s been a couple years since I’ve sewn anything and I’ve been itching to get the Hello Kitty sewing machine down from the attic. Thanks so much for this easy to follow tutorial from this lady who hates patterns, it’s perfect!
So adorable thank you but you do realize it’s reversible you should sew a pocket on the inside and you can wear it inside out if you want to it’ll look just as cute 💕💕👍🏼👍🏼☺️ you definitely should put reversible in the title 💕💕 Love it💕
Wonderful. I don't think I could sew through so much thickness on any of my home sewing machines. That looks very warn; and, it would be great to use at an outside Story Telling Festival. It would also be handy for ice and snow days.
I would have suggested sewing on the pocket right after cutting out the front. Less bulk trying to get all that fabric through the sewing machine and trying to keep the fabric from puckering. But I’m definately using this video to make a few!!
Currently watching this video and decided to go back to your Jean book bag video for nostalgia. I still remember when you first uploaded that video, that bag was my first sewing machine project when I was in highschool. I can’t believe it’s been 8 years!! You’re amazing April!! Love your channel and projects💖
So glad I found this. My 10 yr old is wanting a Sonic one, which of course I can't find, but this way I can make him one and my other kids their own as well.
hey april by any chance we can get your height and ur body measurements so we can more or less have an idea if we would like to reduce or add to the pattern pieces? 👉🏻👈🏻
Hi Rosaline. My hoodie gives me about 12 inches of additional space on both sides of my body (from my ribs to the side seam of the hoodie). So if you are tracing a fitted hoodie you have at home, I would add about 12 inches to both sides to give you the loose fit! I’m also 5’1, but it’s best to just take a ruler and measure how long you want yours to be 😊
@@coolirpa thank you so much for the reply! i actually plan to make this for my best friend whos a size or 2 smaller than me and she more or less have ur figure which is why i asked! haha! i think in this case, i'll trace my own hoodie and add around 8-10 inches for hers hehe thanks for the help! 🥰
I've always refrained from getting one of these online because I HATE sherpa. It pulls on my skin and irritates tf out of me. But hey, now I can pick out what fabrics I want and make one myself, with fabrics I like. Lol.
🥰👍 I'm going to make this, April.... Instead of the sherpa I'm going to use flannel to cut down the bulk and static electricity. Super cute!! -off to order a cute set of flannel sheets and a twin size fleece blanket...so excited!!🙆♀️😊
oh my god- YOU MADE A DIY OF IT!!! IVE ALWAYS SEEN IT BUT ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT ITS JUST SO MUCH OF A HASSLE TO BUY BECAUSE MONEY AND IT NEVER CLICKED FOR ME TO MAKE IT- well goddamn! i know damn well what im making my vv introverted best friend for christmas 😂
DANG IT TH-cam! My list of unfinished projects is getting longer and longer because you decide to recommend a DIY video with a fantastic premise, clear instructions, and good editing that makes me go "I want that"! But in all seriousness, I love this!
I made two, one a bit bigger than yours and one normal hoodie size. Now im back a year later about to make two more - one same size as yours and one floor length one xD I just cannot get enough of them!
I am going to make one as I am always cold and I have the perfect fleece a sheerpa lined fleece my favorite football team. Thank you for the idea and instructions.
This is so fun! I think the next thing I'm going to sew and film will be a cozy sweatshirt dress, but I'm gunna make it really cool and streetwear. Fashion, but make it cozy!
My BF gifted me one from Amazon I guess, two years ago and I love it. He calls me miss couette (miss blanket in french) because whatever the season is I'm always wrapped in a blanket 😍 and when you are hyperactive like me you want to get things done but that's not easy when wrapped in z blanket 🤣 now I'm in the confort of my giant hoodie doing what I love. I wonder how much it cost to make it myself though 😬
@@MeganSmithers I guess if you can purchase an old or thrifted blanket you could make one for cheaper :) new fabric can be expensive but depending if your local thrift store sell some home linens and stuff... Or try Facebook marketplace and apps like these.
I made as its nearly winter (I'm in the Southern Hemisphere) And I decided to not include the lining for my hoodie. It turned out great! I live in a hot climate so if i really want to, I can layer this with other blankets and hoodies. 😀
WHAT. I NEED THIS. And I need to make some for both of my sisters for christmas. I think I can actually do this project and have them turn out decent 😂.
I'm totally going to make one of these for all my nieces and nephews for Christmas next year! Not this year because it's too late now but definitely next year! :)
I totally need to make one of these someday! I adore that color, my favorite pink! If I had to change anything, it would be that pocket: I want the pocket big enough to accommodate one of my cats inside, so I'd leave the top open to deposit said kitty within and add 4 inches or more to the total height of the pocket to give the kitty room to scooch around for their comfort. Also a version with a turtle shell pattern on the back would be another cute variation :D
I made one today!! love it and will be making one for my daughter (Shhh…it’s a surprise). The hood was definitely challenging. I turned up the bottom and sleeves and love the sherpa cuff. i think I will do the same to the pocket on the next one I make. Thanks for this tutorial. I look forward to your next one. :-)
Love these things! I'm short like you so can get away with much less fabric. There's a design on Amazon I'm trying to replicate for myself and my nieces. Two rectangles, cut down center front and gathered with big giant buttons. Two deep pockets on each center front. No hood or sleeves but works as a warm stadium blanket. Wide enough to be drop sleeves for me.

I found fleece Christmas throw blankets on sale for $4. I bought two of each pattern to make these for my family! Perfect for cozy holiday snuggling!
I'm doing the same for my nieces today...soft fleece and Sherpa together already and cheaper than a fabric store @ $9 each.
Girl bless your heart, I'm about to make so many jacked up versions of these for my family this Christmas
I was thinking the same thing!!! Lol
Same😂
I HAVE TO MAKE THIS! I'm basically always cold in the winter. I'm currently sitting in front of a heater. This would be amazing. Thanks for sharing.
