    "think about the user experience"
    That's our perspective, but from the company's perspective why would you publish only on steam for a loss of 30% of your profits when you could self-publish on your store for 100% of those sales. It's annoying for us but that's probably why they're doing it is simply because of that cost, its pretty steep.

    You can say what you want about Bethesda/Creation-Engine Games....their gameplay is probably the worst out there.
    Only Story and endless freedom made up for it.
    Exactly the reason, Jim mentions that fact.
    And AAA-companies aren't too big to success, it is the other way around.
    They are too big to fail, that is why they can put out garbage on a regular basis, without failing.

    How was Outer Worlds "SJW trash"? I mean i'm no SJW but any stretch of the imagination but i didn't see too much "SJW" stuff in the game. Parvati had her little side quest but i didn't see it as a bad thing really. Other than that i can't recall anything else. Is even the slightest mention of lesbian/gay stuff considered SJW stuff now?
    I mean it's not a big deal if there's gay characters or trans or whatever in games. I would consider it SJW if the characters are blatantly so to the point where the game is like "look at this character, look how trans they are! LOOK!" If they can present characters as trans or gay or whatever and not super focus on it then it's whatever. It feels natural that way. If they shove it down your throat and beat you over the head trying to emphasize how trans or gay they are then it's annoying and seems like pandering.
    A good example is Lorelei from Borderlands 3. Apparently a trans character but you wouldn't even know if you didnt listen to the echo logs and even then it's not made out to be a big deal.

    Combat has always been Bethesda's weakest element. Making a game where the combat is 90% of the game was a huge mistake on their part. Bethesda is good at world building and to an extent "lore" writing but that is about it. That also is really only the case for the ES series. They already had most of the world building and lore for FO in place when they bought the IP. FO76 was just a shameless attempt at a cashgrab.

    The other side is - think about the Developers, the actual studios that put the games.
    You are basically saying "Fuck you - give 30% of the profit to Steam, so I am not MINOR inconvenienced"....
    So of course they would have their own platforms - especially for Indie games, Steam is death sentence. So much garbage on Steam with no one doing any quality control, Indie games get buried there......

      not really, look, discord was cutting even less then epic but ask yourself why no one was going for it? with the 30% of steam (it's not only steam with 30% but ALL the digital distributions) within those money you have a lot of things as a developer and not only that, developers can get keys with no cut from steam to "give to people" that most of them sell them on reselling sites (that's why everyone cries about those sites but no dev actually goes after them)
      bottom line... as a tldr things are MORE complicated then "steam takes 30%" as for patch speed? when was the last time you used epic...

    I can agree somewhat with Asmongold, but also disagree.
    A videogame needs both. Good gameplay, and good story.
    If you don't have good gameplay, then the game is gonna be shit. If you don't have good story, the game will be blank.
    Games with
    Good story > good gameplay: Are just not fun to play, if i play a game, i'm playing it most of the time. I'm not gonna listen to the story if the game is about as fun to play as staring at a chia pet grow.
    Good story < good gameplay: These games may be fun to play, but if they are blank, and you are just killing for the sake of killing stuff because there's nothing else to enrich you, then it's just bad.

    • @piratczvojtapopovics
      @piratczvojtapopovics 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To make an example.
      Good story < good gameplay game would be a World of Warcraft, but every quest in the game is either the same, boring or just badly made.
      Yes, the game is fun to play, but do you wanna play a good game with shitty quests and story? Don't think so.
      Good story > good gameplay game would probably be one of those really pretty walking simulators. Yes the story is great, but the game play is just walking from Point A to point B and do a minor puzzle.

    • @moltenheaven5319
      @moltenheaven5319 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@piratczvojtapopovics There are countless examples of highly popular games that focus heavily on the gameplay with caring little to nothing about story, games that are regarded as some of the best ever in some cases. Mario is the prime example here I think, aside from the vary rare, minor thing like Rosalina's backstory in Mario Galaxy. Donkey Kong, Sonic, Kirby are other examples on the platformer genre, and most of the people I know that play Dark Souls almost religiously don't really give two craps about the story itself.
      At the end of the day, I don't think games need a story. Stories can be nice, and amazing stories can be told exactly because they are being told through video-games (Bioshock wouldn't work as well in any other medium), but one isn't anywhere near a requirement to make an amazing game.

    It's too bad Obsidian's in bed with Microsoft now, despite Outer Worlds being a genuinely good game. Blizzard's in bed with the Chinese government now, too.
    Skyrim didn't really improve on much, and took out what made Oblivion good despite inherent level-scaling flaws in the latter. _Objectively_ speaking (and Jim Sterling more-often-than-not makes jokes involving that term), Bethesda Game Studios absolutely needs to take the development of TES6 very seriously; just as seriously as they did the development of TES3: Morrowind over 15 years ago. Bethesda's already-destroyed reputation means that they might as well go bankrupt if TES6 fails.
    ^
    "New" photogrammetry technology won't be nearly enough. They need to actually put the "RPG" back in Action-RPG for TES6 to work; AND reintroduce elements that they unnecessarily took out to "streamline" Skyrim.

      The TES series werent ARPGs until Oblivion. They where CRPGs. TES was known for being one of the last true RPG's like Baldur's Gate. Everyone moved to ARPGs because they are just easyer to develop. I like ARPG's but i want a CRPG, something that really use the word "RPG" to its fullest.

    • @whiteraven1992
      @whiteraven1992 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vyrenvygolo2429 CRPGs are no longer exclusive to computers, however (for 18 years now). "Action-RPG" is a relatively loose term that can be applied to any RPG that features more direct controlling of the character than just typing/selecting their next move from a menu. So even Arena & Daggerfall qualify, because of the manner in which both gameplay systems are handled in an open world.
      ^
      Plus, having a "chance to hit" (or a "chance to fail at casting") doesn't change the fact that combat in all TES games is essentially real-time.
      Therefore, the vast majority of TES games have been ARPGs since Arena. The only ones that *aren't* ARPGs are Battlespire & Redguard.

    It is funny people only talk about Fallout New Vegas instead of the game no one could play for MANY years known as... NEVER WINTERNIGHTS 2!!! Game required tech that didn't even exist yet to play it for a reasonable price. I had to get a computer powerful enough to play Fallout 4 with max graphics in order to play NWN2 and mess with the toolset with no frames lost. Not to mention they tore out the heart and soul of what made NWN made by Bioware a master piece(including all the fun classes and feats). Plus Fallout New Vegas was an unfinished broken game that was quite barren. When you really look at Obsidian's history it isn't one of professionalism. Also am I the only one that noticed after NWN2 the game series literally barreled off the nearest cliff and burned with each iteration of the game? Telling you it is the curse of Obsidian.

    This guy does realize though that bethesda is mostly a publisher now...right? the shitty games they publish are created by developers from multiple different companies. There is some relevant criticism though. For years they've been trying a hostile takeover of Human Head Games, they finally succeded literally the day after their new game Rune 2 was released, they closed HHS, and formed a brand new company...under bethesda, with every single employee being hired by bethesda. They totally fucked Ragnarok, which is an indie publisher that had backed Rune 2, refused to give them the game files so that Ragnarok could continue development on it, it was a serious bit of absolute fuckery.
    However, this guy does ignore many of the great games that have come out under bethesda in the recent decade, the Prey reboot was phenominal, Wolfenstein minus youngblood has been awesome. DOOM! Doom has come out under bethesda, and almost no one can say that DOOM 2016 wasn't jaw droppingly amazing. Dishonored was a decent series too.
    If you look at their actual development studio, it's damn near a flawless record, except for F76. Outer Worlds was really fucking good, but it follows almost the exact same formula and if they weren't using Unreal Engine 4, you wouldn't really be able to tell that it wasn't the "Creation" Engine that BGS used. I think this guy that Asmon is watching is conflating the actions of Bethesda/Zenimax corporate, with their developers.
