Hi! For people who use lots of third-party add-ons, there might be some benefit in waiting for the various developers to make their products compatible. Exciting times! 😀

@@RotorReality247 For me, in Steam, it's very easy to switch between Beta and the main stream - the only cost is the 900Mb download, and I believe your cache is wiped so everything will need to stream again. I imagine the load on third-party developers is quite high right now - porting existing content so it works in 2024, developing new content for 2024, and also adapting to new things that emerge in the sim updates. It’s going to be an amazing sim when they get the bugs squashed. Would love to see them implement realistic damage to an aircraft and military weapons? Oh yea!
The CFD dropout and the resulting yaw effect we all know has been fixed. However, the ground effect is still not right! It is now applied to the nearest structure below the rotor disc as if the structure was a wide open flat plane. There is no asymmetry possible. The “Needles” landing as well as other big helipads work fine because if you approach correctly there is only little room for asymmetric airflow. If you approach the pad on level you will experience a sudden symmetric push upwards when the rotor disc starts to overlap the landing area. This may be a limitation of the sim physics but it leads to wrong behavior with small pads like the spray truck. So I call it still bugged.
Hi! And thanks for posting your detailed analysis. This is really interesting! What would be your expectation for realistic behaviour? I assume, instead of the whole disc lifting symmetrically as you pass forwards over the edge of the elevated pad, you would expect the nose to pitch up?
@ Not sure what happened here. I posted a comment days ago with links and all, but it is not here. Just my like. Anyway, I tested quite a bit on MSFS 2024 and a bit of 2020 and Xplane 12. If you just go HIGE straight off the pad, MSFS 2024 seems to wait for the entire rotor disc (RD) to get off the pad before the CFD registers a symmetrical downstream in quasi-HOGE, meaning you get over the edge completely and only then the helicopter starts to descend. In 2020 and XP12 the lift is reduced gradually. On the halfway point its really either keep doing it until the tail strikes the pad or safe it by adding collective. By logic this happens because the downwash hits less and less pad and the GE air cushion gets smaller and smaller reducing the HIGE to a HOGE situation. I expected a nose down tendency as well, would make sense because a RL pilot shared his experience that you feel a bit of resistance when approaching the pad on a shallow angle (I’d assume because you first have to fight the forming air cushion on the pad that is inducing a pitch-up attitude, so you give cyclic forward to compensate) but I felt none in MSFS 2020 and couldn’t tell in XP12. I made a post about all of my tldr in the MSFS forum. Maybe my link prevented my previous answer, so if you are interested, search for “SU1 Beta ground effect is still wrong”. It is now bug-logged by the admins. You can also find a video there or on my channel (only have the one atm). It shows what happenes according to the CFD in playback: air is hitting an invisible ground when right at the edge, thus the lift stays constant. But this just makes no sense. And: this also explains the uneasiness above the refill truck in career mode. The GE just jumps from general surface level to the slightly higher elevation on the pad, applies full GE there, the flight model has to react so it pushes you upwards out of proportion. This upsets a steady approach and you start to correct, where much less inputs would happen in real life. Last weekend I tried to just ignore what I found and live with it. And yes, if you do that and just compensate for all the slightly weird stuff the Asobo H125 does, you can have an awesome experience! I quite enjoyed the last flights. But it is not fixed yet -or as I see it: it is not developed to reflect real life yet. The devs need to improve the native helicopter system quite a bit to be able to even match what XP12 and the better DCS sims can do. But this will take time and possibly some 3rd party helicopter will achieve that more quickly with external modeling. At least this was true for A2A, COWS and Fenix and their respective planes afaik…
