Camellia House Regeneration July 2023 update

- After months of work, our amazing team of contractors have completed the incredible task of transforming our wonderful Camellia House from a derelict shell into a place fit for a new life in the 21st Century. There are just a few small details to finish off and some fittings to install before we can show you the final 'big reveal'.
We're so pleased to see how expertly the work has been completed and will continue to bring you update videos about the Camellia House as we get everything ready for a formal re-opening to the public in the spring of 2024.

I do admit that it better suits a gentleman's library or smoking room, but a well shellacked knotty pine alone makes for a beautiful room and would have looked lovely in this setting. I like how this structure mimics the mansion by having two distinct facades. Are there any plans to replace/replicate the four statues and two baskets of flowers that were on the top of the camellia house? Excellent video.
That's a really good question and the answer is yes. No-one seems to know where the original four statues have gone or when they were moved. They represented the Four Seasons and we do have some ideas about how we might replace them, but they weren't part of the scope of work for this project. Watch this space though! :-)
Beautiful work. Will the camellias not grow up to the roof again?
Over the past few years, we've been carefully pruning the camellias to gradually reduce their height. This in turn has promoted new growth from lower down on the trunks of each of the plants, and this will thicken up over the coming years. We want them to have a bushy appearance, much as they did when the family lived at Wentworth Woodhouse. If you take a look at this video on our channel, at about 0:52, you can see what we mean: th-cam.com/video/wJUt6zigq7g/w-d-xo.html With continued pruning we'll achieve this look and prevent the camellias from getting too tall for the building.

The Camellia House will formally open in the spring of 2024, but we'll be running a few test events there between now and then.
