I also have a 81 yamaha it250 2 stroke. Just did a topend job on it, runs like a boss! Great bike, these bikes that run are worth atleast $500. Does not matter how it looks, the motor is the key for the hole bike.
That's a very nice video I'm a big fan of the Yamaha it Ione 1979 125 cc also a 1980 175cc and my last bike I picked up two years ago what is a 1984. 200cc these bikes are so hard to find when I see him on Craigslist I jump on him quick
I used to ride an IT 175 and had a jumping contest with someone riding a cr 250, and the cr 250's frame cracked. I cracked the gear case cover on the shifter side of the IT, just used to duct tape to keep most of the oil in, and kept riiding. I also took the IT through rivers, underneath water but stalled a few times, had to drag it out, took off carb, dumped out the mud and water, put it back and kept riding.

IT COST 3 DAYS IN THE SHOP WITH A BROKEN LEFT LEG IN TWO PLACES MASHED ANKLE.day 6 after the crash. I remounted the 465. and full throttle banged the nose up through town. every one holering. HE"S ALIVE.
these are the best and most relible endoro bikes ever made all my friends laugh at my 1985 it 200 till i whoop there yz 250s and 125s in the woods and top out
I have a 1981 It465, punched 70 over. Its one of the white ones. I'm having a hard time finding certain parts for it. I'm here in the united states. Any ideas of where i coiuyld order IT parts? I really need the tool bag that sits right behind the seat.Thx
I'm looking to buy an it490. Does it have a super high amount of power? Like slightly uncontrollable power? I'm not very experienced but I am a large person. Do they have any big problems?

Not reliable? Didn't you just watch a bunch of 30 year old bikes run the country side? I would like to see somebody fix a bent valve on a 450F with a roll of teflon tape or a rubber band and some bailing wire.
no idea where your pulling these statements from but im sorry son, but a ~25 year old, 26 horsepower air cooled 2 stroke is not faster in the woods, track, street, or otherwise then a modern YZ250. or even a ~25 year old YZ250 for that matter. YZ250 is lighter and makes more torque too.
watch this video. its the top enduro riders from all over the united states. I see 2 diff YZ250s out there. its funny though I dont see any IT200s? am i missing something? Maybe its because YZ250s have wayyyyyy more potential then some old IT200. dont get me wrong, IT200s are great bikes and I used to have an IT490 but modern stuff would walk all up and down them. even in the woods.
wasnt tryn to start an argument man im takin these statment from my riding expericen by the way and my experince that my 27 year old bike is faster in the woods by a long shot i never ever said they wer faster on the track there not i get destroyed on a track ps. i should add the yzs i ran agains were both 5 speed years not 6 once again apples and organges these are difrent speices of bikes im done replyin i know what i know from what ive done not by bike specs you may be right but iv beat them

I have an 81 IT250, the year they made them white. I love it to death. Haven't had to fix it once.

Just got my 84 it 200 running...its my first bike and I got it for only $100 but it needed a top end which was nothing.
