I have the Okuma Rockaway rod and absolutely love it for occasional surf fishing that I do here in WA
Just bought myself the 10 ft ML for Christmas lol loving it so far
Just picked up a 9ft Okuma SST -902ha and its awesome. It’s super slim and feels ultra light. the tip loads up perfect with 3/4-1oz lures and I can still throw 2oz Carolinas !
Love this video in so many ways 👍🏽🤙🏽🎣
Product knowledge is key , but when ya have the opportunity to see it at work for 3 hrs + makes all the difference in the world !! Thanks for this one
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video as always brotha.. I always stress cater your choices to you fishing style and species. All fair assessments across the board.
Awesome video! Very informative! Thanks for the honest review on the rod!
Hell yeah! The rockaway is the one I have also. Great choice!
Good choice!
The first time I saw the okuma Hawaiian custom I fell in love with how versatile it is! Great video as always Edward! 👍
I have a buddy who has one and it's one of favorite rods for surf casting jerkbaits
Thanks BJay!!!! Same here! Haha had to take one off the shelf!
Awesome vid Edward. It’s always good to get a good rod that doesn’t break the bank. It’s cool to see it preform against other more expensive rods and still hold its own. For anglers that want to get into perch fishing that looks like a great option.
Amen Steve! The rockaway was sure a surprise pick by Ean with the other two options on the table. Preference does matter!
I'm using Okuma '9 Rockaway rod, paired with the Rockaway RA6000 reel for San Diego Surf fishing.
I envy you all. That is one of my favorite spots to fish. Caught a small striped bass near there, never seen anyone catch a steelie though. Those Honey Badgers look interesting, may have to try them out one day.
Really love the Videos you put out I wish I can go on a Fishing trip with you
A Steelhead?! Down here?! That's crazy, man. Never would have expected that.
Really good vid. I’m switching to the Rockway MH for my cdx-80. But my Wife is getting my a Cedros 14k for my birthday so rod will be the longest heavy surf
9’6” Daiwa north MH coast or the Kastking Krome 9’6” MH are good for both rigs. Also, central coast steel head 🙌!!!!! That’s amazing, tearing down some of these damns must be working to restore the population.
It was a wild steelhead I think. It had its adipose fin still
Okuma sst 9'6 medium throws 3/8-1oz handles the lucky craft and lighter c-rigs and won't break the bank, plus with the carbon grips clean up is a breeze
Great video.....I use the Okuma 11' M throws 3/4 to 3 oz. I have not had a need to throw a 3 oz. It is sensitive, great back bone, handles large fish with ease and can cast a 110 lure (Calissa and Lucky Craft) between 35 and 40 yards. Under $100.00.
@stevef8065 I am thinking of getting this same one. Do you know if I was to get the ML version of the same rod would it throw those 110s farther?
Ed, another wonderful educational program! It is no wonder you are one of the few with Instructor status @ RBFA. Nice to hear about the Alon having a shorter butt and more comfortable, I will have to look into one of those just for that reason. Nice catch and release on that beauty chrome steelhead. Keep up the great work Ed, we sure enjoy your productions.
Thank you so much Q!
curious to know your thoughts on the okuma custom gls 902 if you ever try it out, looks perfect for every striper lure u can use in the surf
Good morning to you E? This is a perfect video not just for me but for also the beginners here in the Bayarea 👍🏼 Dam bro it don’t matter wat kind of bait “real or fake”??? Kind of rod “Taiwan 🇹🇼, Hawaiian 🌺 Philippines 🇵🇭” you still the the Master of surf Perch bro!!! But yes I’m bout to retire my first 8’6 Daiwa NorthCoast rod lol 😂
Lol that’s the thing! There’s a rod for every occasion 😄
The Okuma Rockaway is a great rod at first. But it won't be long before it breaks. They're not made to last.
After watching this video, i called the tackle shop "Been There, Caught That" order the 10 ft Okuma Hawaiian custom , instantly got 10% discount after mentioning i am a member of Hook2Cook. Can't wait for my new rod. Thank You Hook2Cook.
.
Hawaiian, yeah brah, gotta git one 🤙. I lived in Hawaii for four years, only did fly fishing for bonefish though😃
No whippin!?
Hay guys thanks fir all the grat information so what is your fishing dussion determined on time of day or tide??
should try the Black Hole suzuki special 2. Very nice light rod.
Any spots or tips for fishing around Oxnard shores? I almost always seem to catch small guys and occasional yellow fin croakers. Looking for a new spot to try.
Man dat was a good sesh 👍🏽
thanks bro!
you should try Jigging World Shadow surf rod....AWESOME rod
I have a phenix trifecta pro, cicada, and edge rod that I like for various surf style fishing.
OOooO Edge rod! Heard so many good things about their blanks
Great video. Thanks for the comparison. What lure did Omar use the get the steelhead? 110 jerk bait? Thanks
Yes 110
I have the Rockaway 10" MH and the 9"6' MH rated to 6oz. I wouldn't trade the 9"6' for anything. I even use it as my primary Striper rod in the Sacramento River.
Are you talking about the Rockaway HD in the 9”6’? I’ve been eyeing the 10”6’ MH. How does it compare to the regular Rockaway?
@@PeterLebhar I don't think there is much difference in the original vs. HD. Imo. Both are quality rods for the price. Last week a boat pulled my 10'6 into the Sac River and I was unable to get back. Bummed.
I hit up Freeport tackle and grabbed HD 9" M action. Oddly I can cast further with it than I could with 10'6.
@@matthewzak4190 Thanks Matthew!
Great now I gotta get a new rod lol
I like my rockaway. It’s a MH 11ft it’s rating is like 12-20 pound, 1/4 to like 2 oz don’t really have it near me right now. It’s a good rod for the price and I can cast it far too. It’s strong enough to handle ( big rays) too (I fish in the SF bay often) . Only down side is the reel seat. All my reels feel loose on it.
How long are the calissa lures you guys throw
@@aaroneyheralde3070 they’re 4”
@@Hook2Cook thanks for your response. I love your crew and your videos. Your lucky to fish with family like that. Does Bobby have a channel? Plus I ordered his secret bait. Thanks for all the information you put out there I love it.
@@aaroneyheralde3070 well said. Definitely blessed & hahah no Bobby does not. He’s hilarious though. Thanks Aaron
I am looking for a surf rod and reel for striper and perch (jerk baits and carolina rig) but not to expansave because I am a kid. Any suggestions.
You could try the Okuma Rockaway SP their lighter & more sensitive than their normal Rockaway series rods. I have the 11' one & I've caught 10lbs catfish & 8lbs walleyes from shore on it here at Lake Erie.
Do you know anything about the odm DNA 9ft
Which one did you choose I am interested in the blue Hawaiian I’m gonna have to go to Marks and check it out
Yeah! When?
I’ll go to Santa Maria my day off Wednesdays or Thursday I’ll check it out thanks for the video
so i bought the okuma hawian custom, is it supposed to be this flimsy? 1072mha. almost feel scared to cast it hard.
update- got to take the rod out to go fish, threw around a calissa 110 nuclear pink and a battle star 115 chrome sardine. hooked up on 2 perch 1)12" & 1) 14". it really suprised me
He bro , what size reel would you pair up with the Rockaway? I got an ITX Okuma 2500. Should I have gone bigger?🤙🏽
Yea, depends on what you’re throwing. Which rockaway did you get? 1/2-2oz? If you’re throwing Carolina rig mainly, 4000. It can do plugs too if it’s a light enough reel
@@Hook2Cook yeah i got the 1/2-2oz bro.🤙🏽
What size reel and braid would you pair the Hawaiian custom 13ft with if using the Carolina set up?
4000 -5000 size reel 30# braid
Penn spinnfishers VI on sale right now. So thanks for replying. Aloha.
Ugly stik elite medium heavy or Okuma connoisseur medium heavy
Hey Edward I've been watching your videos and l wanted to ask you what's the length of your Hawaiian custom rod.
10’ 7”
trifecta vs rockaway???
How much does all those weigh?
Is the silver spinner a Nasci?
Stratic FL
@@Hook2Cook TY
Are you guys fishing sothern California or?
central coast/ san luis obispo county
Honey Badger Slayers are sold out???
Can i get the hook link??!
amzn.to/486wBe8 size 3
You never said what your pick was out of the 3 rods?
The point was to have Ean pick. I have the Hawaiian and the Alon. I use the Alon now 90% of the time
@@Hook2Cook You say the Alon is used 90% of the time. What happened to the Custom Rainshadow? Retired? Broke or like the Alon better? Asking cuz I might be in the market for a new rod. This video was VERY helpful with that. I'm in SoCal and use a Trifecta, Shimano Clarus and St. Croix in both casting and spinning for the surf. All 9' rods. I did build a Lamiglass Closer 12', but man that thing takes it toll when you try and cast that beast all morning.
what reels did you have on each rods ?
did you hear or get back from Shimano ?
bought the vanford reel, but now I'm scared to use it in saltwater now
Yes they replaced the vanford and I sold it immediately 😄
Where you guys fishing at
We do not name locations on this channel. Sorry
Celilo. It’s pronounced Se-lie-low.
buy cheap all your get is cheap
