At the one hour three minute portion, I felt that. I also set aside a career that I loved for my wife and children. Men, there is a calling that is greater than your career and ambitions and that is being a husband and father. It is tough and you will have doubts, but I assure you, being a husband and father is worth much more than any accolade that a career can give.

Been a firm believe for a long time that children need to understand their place in the hierarchy. They get all the information they need to understand. This helps them understand that they part of the family and have a role to play in it. It also helps them understand that the family doesn't revolve around them, we are a unit, we work together, we play together. One of the biggest eye openers for me was just how important siblings are. I only wanted one child, my wife asked for a second and now we have four. The way my kids work together is truly a blessing, always banding together to get things done, leading and delegating tasks to one another - it is amazing to watch. As they each get older they get more responsibilities assigned to them and they eat it up. The best part to see is that when we have to make sacrifices, we sacrifice as a family. Everyone understand why and gets on board. I don't deserve the family I have but I am truly grateful I have all of them. We get teased because we often attend events for individuals in our family (piano recitals, sports matches etc) as a family but the most telling moment for me was when one of the kids walked up to my oldest son and said to him "man, I cannot believe you have your whole family here supporting you, I wish I had that". Broke my heart hearing that. Biggest lesson I learned was (which was pointed to earlier in the video) there is no one size fits all for children but they always need boundaries. Love your family, there is no greater joy in life.

As for civilian it is important to remember that you don't have army backing you.
Civilian is either lost in permissive enviroment - that's more wilderness survival because we want to be found.
Or in the middle of enemy controled territory with almost no thing like safe territory. There simply is no forward line of own troops to cross and there is no blackhawk to evac you to FOB.

It's interesting to see some things never change. I went through SERE back in 1987. His story about stressing people out enough to get them out of their comfort zone and maybe kill a live rabbit with a club brought me back to 1987. I had to laugh while he told his story, it is exactly what happened with our group. The most mild and timid female aircrew member went full Rambo on us when stress met hunger. She killed the rabbit, lots of blood, and we all took part in skinning, cleaning and drying for jerky.
Wow, that was a long time ago!

Mitch is spot-on with the "building a community" thing. We homestead and we are wearing ourselves out because there are a ton of homesteaders locally...and they mostly seem to want to follow the TH-cam Homesteader path. We're actually considering it, but not so much to make money, as so many do, and it isn't something either my wife or I have ANY experience doing, but we REALLY want to teach others how to do homesteading things. I'm a mechanical guy and my wife is a gardening genius. We just want to pass on our knowledge to our kids and others.

I'm not a military dude nor religious nor do I care much for it besides thinking that guns are cool (and that physical activity and nature are cool), but community is an important aspect of life it doesn't matter what topic you apply it on, SERE, or as something for the "end of america" scenario, but I don't think where it's applied to really matters at the end of the day
Having hope for life doesn't have to be anything related to god, can be hope for the future/humanity but it boils down to belief that something "better" is coming, for me personally the therapy boom across the world gives me hope cause people are going to wake up to issues that generations have deal with, and go through a years long process of trying to untagle those issues and leave them behind so as to not bring that further down to their families
I love what these channels and podcasts like the Shawn Ryan Show are doing, and I love how down to earth these guys are (including mitch), Tom Satterly at SRS was a great watch as well
Mitch explaining how he himself affects his child and vice versa is really a nice story to hear, besides having a cool dad the kid's going to also have a great dad

@@MadeinAmerica123 For me, I just look at food. But, for most people it's calories In vs. calories Out. It's of course all dependent on the type of calories. And, at the end of the day you just have to be able to except your genetic make up. Chicken breasts is still (even under Bidenomics) the cheapest leanest complete protein you can get. Protein shakes are great to have to get the protein and calories in WHEN you don't have the time. Start there. Give it a go. You just happen to ask the right person. I use to do this stuff for a living.

@@MadeinAmerica123 I just remembered: Lentils. Lentils, lentils, lentils. They are super cheap, coupled with rice they become a complete protein, and are a great food for prepping, because they are a legume and last a long time. You can always doctor them up if you're not big into the taste. They are a super food, so if you're trying to get extra protein and fiber in, they can be calorie dense. 1 cup of of lentils and 1/2 cup of white rice is ~330 calories. I add different spices and different hot sauces to non-dullify them. I know that tracking nutrition is boring, but if you get a good app, spend the time in the first 2-4 weeks, it will just have the foods stored because we tend to eat the same shit. You will see where you are strong and weak in your nutrition. I will say that if you really try to keep your fiber up, the easiest way to do this is through lentils (for the taste, price, ease of prep, versatility, etc.) you'll start seeing your calories climb.

I was just thinking about the Judas scenario recently. Funny to watch this podcast and it came out of left field at the end. Whenever I read the events leading to Christ's death and resurrection, I think for a while about Judas, the hopelessness and torment he must have felt, and how he wasn't around to witness Christ's redemption for us. Hits hard if we consider how many times we may have betrayed the lover of our souls for selfish reasons as we chase other gods. Good talk.

I wanted to chime in on your question "was there a moment Judas reached salvation". I was sharing this with my oldest son who is a campus pastor at North Carolina State and he immediately went to John 17:12- While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. Your question is worthy of discussion but I feel this scripture pretty much answers your question.

Great video, nice to see the real people behind the content to come out in this conversation. QUESTION: Who makes that jacket you put on halfway through the video? ✝

1:01:11 this part just kinda struck me, I had a thought even though it's not in the context of the discussion I wonder if the point still stands if you apply it to a broader societal context. The erasure of religion, the denigration of the US and it's folk heros, the distancing ones self from your own people or tribe, the atomization of society. I wonder, does that microcosm of the individual in a POW camp who lost the will to survive also apply to the macro scale?

After almost 11 years of being an AMMO troop… I wish I put effort into cross training as a young Amn. SERE was the goal back then but I never made it a priority and now I am kicking myself. Not that it’s been a bad ride to move and deploy all over the world. But I don’t have the career fulfillment that I think SERE would have provided and I definitely don’t have the survival skills.

Don't listen to this guy. The best way to become a SERE specialist is to sign up for the job before going to basic, completing basic, and running away when your SERE training starts. If at the end of selection they don't find you, you're in, and you'll also get a call from Harvard.

1:38:44 Hey Josh -- on the topic of the healing of America and timing -- I hope you don't hold yourself to the same timeline for repentence as you do America. You're a solid dude.
You, I, and our nation can change anything we want to change, and we can do it very fast. It's a satanic lie that it takes years and years and eons of eternity to repent. It takes exactly as long to repent as it takes us to say, “I’ll change”-and mean it.
Of course there's problems to work out and restitutions to make. We'll probably spend (and we better) the rest of our lives proving our repentance by its permanence. But change, growth, renewal, and repentance can come instantaneously. And the actual healing of the American system can take place as quickly as the Constitution healed a dieing infant of a country we were for 8 years before that.
