The best ever! I liked the Temptations, Smokey & the Miracles, the 4 Tops, the Stylistics, etc. But the Dells were in a class all by themselves, a national and cultural treasure. Their raw talent was off of the charts, even more so in 2023.

@@williamg2552 I hear you- but all remain uniquely great. Marvin Jr (along with Mr. Levi Stubb's) remains the greatest lead group singer ever. Mr. Ruffin always greeted him as ' Mr. Iron Throat' & Dave's voice which had that sense of drama with lyrics & whose voice never left him ever. And as for Mr. Wynne, he's was perhaps (along with the Jolly Green Giant Mr. Al Green) the greatest ad lib male singer ever- able to extend songs with endless off the cuff riffs. One think is certain: music lovers will not see the likes of them & their peers again- ever! Those greats that are still here - we should give them their flowers while they're here.
And the only reason he held the note was because the label wanted the song to be 3 mins long. They were short about a min so he said “ I can hold the note to make the song a min longer”.

I have read a lot about this man (Marvin Junior) and I have never read anything that disappointed me about who HE was. He stayed with this group even though he got a multitude of offers to go solo. He stayed with his wife and kids and I am sure that there was temptations from the outside. I read that one of his favorite things to do was cook and he would go to the store and shop for others in the community and cook for them. A truly honorable man. When I heard he had passed, it felt as though a family member had passed. We have all been truly honored to have him and blessed to have the legacy that he left. Love you always Marvin Junior. Condolences to your family.

As kids when this was released in 1965 (I was 10) hanging out was listening to the radio kids would pass out trying to hold that note by Marvin Junior.
One of the Best "Class" Acts of a generation! I'll Never forget the last time we saw them live at the New Year's Eve Show at the Foxx Theatre in Detroit. They had that Theatre Lit Up!! Then suddenly they stopped and called for quiet. Someone in the close up front row was having a heart-attack. They stopped that Show until the paramedic came down the aisle, took the man out, then the Dells called for prayers for this man! I will never forget that, and after the Show, that's all you heard people discussing ... what a class act the Dells are! :-)
There will never be another group like "The Dells"... The harmony & when "Two Tons of Fun" that sweet Marvin belts out that note and holds it for so long without breaking leaves me breathless still to this day... Thanks for the memories & for the share... God Bless to All

Thank You For This Upload
Still sounds fantastic.
ABSOLUTELY CHICAGO'S BEST VOCAL GROUP, AND JUST LIKE THE FOUR TOPS, THEY KEPT THE SAME SINGERS FOR DECADES. AND WHEN THEIR LEAD SINGERS DIED, THEY DIDN'T WATER THE PRODUCT DOWN WITH REPLACEMENTS. THEY RETIRED. I SALUTE THESE BROTHERS. AND AM PROUD TO SAY MY VOCAL GROUP "PAPER BAG & CO". OPENED FOR THEM AT THE CHASE HOTEL IN MY HOME TOWN OF ST.LOUIS.
ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES....RED AND BLUE LITES...SLOW GRINDIND HARD UP AGAINST THE WALL, CAUSE IT WAS THE LAST SONG PLAYED...AND IF YOU WERN'T,,,, YOU LOST OUT....DELLS ALL NITE
The Four Tops Did That...When Levi,Renaldo And Lawrence Died Duke Continued Til This Day With Newer Members For The Tops.. I've Lost Touch Ever Since.
Lionel Pope that's what's up
These guys had real synergy! They all had a special individual quality to their voices, where you could identify each one. But together...whew, just GOLDEN. MAGIC!
So true, and just so much talent and awesomeness! I'm feelin' it! : ))
soul strenth crusader you are not lying! i love them! I am white and I grew up on on all soul music like this. deep soul music is the best! I was adopted by black parents and my white friends look at me like wow...well some of them but not all.
Marvin was Teddy Pendergrass's inspiration...RIP Marvin and Teddy two all time greats...

I Get Chills When He Hits It
So true
Yes it does
Tried as a kid, still cant hold the note as long. He did even longer here!!!! He is a beast!!!
I would have loved to be there, was to young.
Random song that's going to be around for Xfinity forever
I wish Marvin and Johnny were still here and in good health!

ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE SAID, FURTHER IS "AMEN" TO YOU ALL!!!
Gentleman to the Max 🌈
This is my if I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life song. This live version is outstanding.
There will never be another group like "The Dells"... The harmony & when "Two Tons of Fun" that sweet Marvin belts out that note and holds it for so long without breaking leaves me breathless still to this day... Thanks for the memories & for the share... God Bless to All
That's real romance huh? Yes indeed.
One of the baddest and the best groups ever. Timeless and classy!!!!!
I was a freshman in college when I saw the Dell. 1970. I have loved every song the put out. Go Dell's.
One of the strongest voice I have ever heard. Believe me.
I was 12 when this concert was recorded and finally got to see these gentlemen in concert when I was in my 30’s. The entertainers of their era will NEVER be equaled, there music will be remembered FOREVER. I’m sooo thankful to have grown up in the sixties. Sing on, Gentlemen, sing ON! 💐❤️
I grew up with such great oldies, I loved the Dells!
The Dells , the Temps and the Dramatics. The best ever!
donot forget the spinners. even though they got cheated out of being in thee hall of fame shame now its only one original spinner left sad.

@Sid Sidney l know the dells had two singers
Dell's stay in my corner
He held that note ba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for 23 Seconds ! The Shortest Brother with the Highest Notes Stayed on Point. Not a hair strand was out of place. They Rocked those Afros. The Dell's Second to None even to me Ms Sarah from Miami in 2020
I was born in 1980 but I understand you can not duplicate what you have here. Nothing will be like this again. I don't know what my generation of men and the younger generation is doing with the music but I know this here is the S#!T.
junior had one of the most magical voices of all time!! pure gold.
My favorite too! Never, ever get tired of listening to this.
this is one of the most underrated groups. back in the day.put there music is second to none
