Hey Mutha, Mousse here. Dude, you didn’t fail shipmate. All of us in CAG -11 loved having you on the pickle. I also remember that night like it was yesterday and can unequivocally say that no one could have saved Planet that night once that power came back.
Thank you, sir, for sharing. I was crash and salvage on board CVN 71, Theodore Roosevelt 89-90. The flight deck is a world all its own. I had the opportunity to work with some of the finest this nation has to offer. Thank you all for your service and to the shipmates that we have lost. "Fair winds and following seas."
Soul crushing to see- as another who has wrestled with guilt the one checkmate I’ve ever heard was “If one of your guys came to you and blamed himself the same way- would you think he was being fair to himself?” It still hurts and I continue to believe the suffering is the punishment I deserve for the mistake I feel I made- but every so often I have the strength to call myself out.
I was in vf33 aboard the America when our XOs tomcat hit mid airframe on the round down...fortunately both survived...plane was trashed ...Indian Ocean tour 1984 ..
It looks to me this guy was on top of his game. His fellow tomcat pilot who crashed on the ramp was not. unfortunately it happened. He shouldn’t be so hard with himself
No, sir, you didn't fail. You worked in an environment where seconds count. You gave the ultimate order to save that crew, the wave off 🔴🔴🔴🔴. The disaster is on the crew who disregard the signal. God bless the warrior America 🇺🇸 lost that horrible night. May you fly with the angels forever. Semper Fi ✝️ 🇺🇸
From the tf-30 in the early F-14 all the way to the TF 100 that was in the F-111 that I worked on Abba the F model. I was able to get into the flight simulator and fly the F model simulator several times. And I knew already that if you pull back too much power. That aircraft slows down at 50 knots a second. Once you get behind on power. You can get into trouble in a really short amount of time. The tf30 was the same engine that was used in the a model of the F-111. Just for an understanding, the military power. The power that you have before you go into afterburner on a TF 100 exceeds the power that you have on the tf30 in full afterburner. When they finally fitted the TF 100 engine into the last model of the F-14 it turned that aircraft, finally, into the completely capable fighter it was destined to become. But so late that they phased it out. The other problem with the f-14. Because I did work on several of them at the air base that I was at whenever Navy Pilots would bring them in while traveling or traveling to some place near my air base. They are extremely complicated aircraft and require a ridiculous amount of Maintenance time to keep them in the air. It was not unusual for 50% of them to be unavailable for flight at any given moment of any given day. The F-18, is rarely down to less than about probably 80% or better availability.

You did not fail my man. Thank you for serving, and always, FLY NAVY!

Was on that deck at the same time frame. ♠️
@kevinmccorkle7476 DO you recall catching the S-3 in the barricade?
@@kevinmccorkle7476 If I am not mistaken, you were a director?
@richardmcnair4045 I was a PR and Plane Captain for VF-41. Was on deck to help rig the barricade.

Those of us who worked the flight deck have lost friends and officers with whom we knew well. Like you this still haunts us all.
Yes it does.

Hats off to you sir and the rest of that crew. They did an amazing job recovering and getting the rest of the guys down safe.
Second guessing and feeling bad about how things turned out is natural. Thank you for your service.

I was an ILARTS tech on the Lincoln and remember going over the tapes with all the investigators plus I actually have a piece of the F-14
I was emotional just listening to his account of this horrible incident.
Could feel his pain....
Best regards to you.....
You did your job. Move forward with your life that’s a order.

Tim Dodson and Master Chief Martin. 👍♥️
You did all you could. So lucky to get everyone abord. I have had bad nights.
I was there on the flight deck as the fuels LPO when he hit and myself and a brown shirt cut him out of his parachute and placed him on a stretcher.
You need to let that shit go friend.
Sometimes its not that easy to do.
What more could you have done? You did your job...
Stay behind the red and white line!

6:03 can someone elaborate for a layman what he means when he said the pilot was "found between the 1 and 2 row"?
Sounds like you did everything you could sir. Not your fault.
