Running the engine without valve cover for a few minutes is a great way to make sure nothing under the hood rusts ever again
On the older chevy V8 Engines we used to grab a set of valve covers from a junkyard and cut the middle lengthwise out. It would catch most the oil but still let you hear and see what was happening.
Lol
Had a customer recently had 08 5.4 rebuilt. After rebuilding the engine has no power and misfire. After checking the timing and replacing tensioners with Ford quality parts. Back together Rt head (pass) was getting the code for our of range timing . Showing retarded after 5 minutes warm up. The machine shop missed the heads. As the camshaft had to much clearance. R&R the head with a good rebuilt head. All is well.
And the oil makes everything shiny.
Hahahahahah thats so true but funny
100% looking forward to the response, i bet they're in the office reviewing this video like "shit he actually did it...."
Followed by "What can we make him do now that doesn't seem too unreasonable for the damage he is claiming our client caused?"
@@Aspie_Geek_UK I was thinking the same thing throughout the video.
@@Aspie_Geek_UKanything they can tl void the warranty. I wouldnt be surprised if they said; nope, we voided the warranty because you ran the motor with no valve covers. Why would you do such a thing
Ummm..because you told me to!!
If i told you to jump off a bridge, would you? Warranty claim denied. And thats after they make him do a couple more stupid things
Well why did you make me do all these other things if you voided it when i ran it w the covers off?
We were looking for another way to deny the claim. Couldnt find one, so this was our best bet.
@jacksmith2315 I'm so glad that here in the UK, consumer protection is much more stringent than it is in most other countries, if a warranty claims adjuster told a UK mechanic to do that he would have told him to come here and do it for himself and then offered to give the adjuster a rolled up copy of his qualifications inserted where the sun doesn't shine. After that the claim would be quickly and quietly paid 🤣
The most likely scenario@@jacksmith2315
The engine company was like” Let’s tell them we have to see the engine run with no valve covers.” “ they’ll never go to that much trouble to warranty the engine” …..rainman Ray Says……..” hold my beer!!!!!” 😂😂😂
quality comment, you made me spit my coffee out 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
You should make the engine builders name famous for us!! Its only fair!! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
The job of every insurer is to collect the highest premiums possible while making it as difficult as possible to pay any claims. This ensures maximum profits in a world where money and power seem to be the only things that matter any more.
Oh god damn the traitors that feed the race war blacks and all anti drug whites
No matter how your "opinion" of someone else's work may be subjective, they cannot argue with the broken stuff and paper left in the engine. Personally I believe if you are engaged to give your professional opinion then it's disrespectful not to take that without proof. Are they implying you're not good enough or a liar. I would be very angry at being forced to do unnecessary work. WELL PLAYED sir for keeping your cool.
I would agree with you 100%
His personality is so much better than mine for sure.
He also now has a file video to produce should he ever get that request again
If you look at time 54:02 on the bank 2 cam phaser, it looks very much like the cam phaser finger is not lined up with the "R" mark. This would definitely cause the P0345 as that is set when starting. The computer looks to see where the cam phaser is on start which it should have been in a default locked position. The cam phaser on bank 2 is definitely broken.
That said, finding paper in bank 2 makes me think paper could be everywhere. Absolutely caused low oil pressure in certain situations as oil goes from bank 2 to bank 1. The pan needs to be pulled and cleaned at a minimum. The fact that the valve cover bolts were painted in place with the rubber grommets and tightened to oblivion is an extremely poor rebuild. I am so very disappointed in this Fraser rebuild.
I would love for @FordTechMakuloco to watch this and make his opinion. Also, this Fraser needs to step up on this repair. 540k subscribers plus many more are directed to watch this video.
The fact that you take pride in your work is one of the reasons your channel is one of my favorites. Gotta love the shop dog content too!

It’s a damn shame that previous technicians didn’t care about the quality of their work, because it’s obvious that the owner loves this truck. You can tell because of how clean he has kept it. I’m not a Ford guy, but I’m happy Ray has this truck, and will give it the attention it deserves.
agreed, you shouldn't have to remove the valve cover to verify an engine noise
No, the owner should have purchased a newer vehicle instead of spending 5 grand on a truck with 100k miles on the odometer....and is STILL having trouble.
@@deplorablelibertarian and your logic is exactly the problem with the world today. To you, everything is throw away. If you keep repairing the same vehicle for years upon years, you will spend exponentially less money than if you buy a new vehicle every time there is a semi-serious problem.
@@williameldridge9382I agree with you 💯. The one thing that does make me sad though is that there isn't any car companies building cars today that anyone really wants to hold on to. I don't see anybody today building cars that are going to be the collector cars of tomorrow. Everything is bland and looks the same, at least until you get into the hundreds of thousands of dollars vehicles. Nothing for the hard working everyday person.
Sadly, most customers are nothing more than a price tag for most companies. They don't care about their employees either.
I think after finding the FOD, you will be asked to pull the oil pan, then run it looking at the crank 😮
I certainly think he should pull the pan and check the pickup tube.

Hey don't give them ideas they might ask Ray to do that I think the oil pump in the sump mught be semi blocked as well.
Well said lol I think that's the next step, then when the engine locks up they will blame it on lack of oil.
It may be a frustrating and pointless task to run the engine without the valve covers, but it sure as heck makes a fascinating video.
Like spilling turkey grease on the kitchen counter and it runs down on the cabinets😂😂😂😂😂
I'm nervous as hell to take the valve covers off my cars at all, let alone running the engine with one off. Especially on an engine with the valve cover facing straight upward. One little bolt or washer or anything else solid falls in there and you're in for a bad time.
@@CadgerChristmasLightShowlol. A couple of marbels would be very interesting.
Wow! So much work because someone else was not doing their job. Sad and frustrating. You, sir, are a saint.
That piece of paper you found certainly points out the re-man company's quality control. Excellent life lesson about anger management. Anger is a cancer that can poison your life. Get rid of useless anger and success pours in! 😁
Thanks for that little nugget of wisdom at the end! I can relate to that! 😉 Cheers from Canada Pal!!🇨🇦
I had a moment of clarity about anger and success one day at work. I found I needed to channel my aggression and only let choice amounts fly. It has served me well so far.
why angry, u get paid for the labor?
I just bought a Ford 3.5 for my wife's 2010 Ford Edge SEL from Gear Head. Now I'm worried! 😮
@@forgetfulme1719 Because the labor gets more and more difficult and tedious according to how much of someone else's job you had to clean up.
Super interesting video Ray. Seems like the engine rebuilder put some very stringent demands on your customer to fulfill to get the warranty. Almost like they were expecting him not to be able to fulfill them and thus weaselling out of a warranty repair or replace.
It’s understandable to be skeptical and protect your business from fraud.
Novice engine tuning has blown up untold number of engines, followed by false warranty claims.
@@opendstudio7141 fair comment. I wonder, is the refurbisher going to reimburse the owner for the costs of the investigative diagnostic? If it is shown it’s no fault of the owner I think that would be also fair.

Ray, I can't believe the engine installers didn't bother to clean out the original valve covers and used broken parts! It's a sad commentary on what currently passes for craftsmanship! Good on you for wading into this swamp to help a customer!

Very interesting video! I’ve never seen an engine run without the valve covers before. Also, finding that piece of plastic sheet inside the engine is unbelievable! Speaks volumes about the engine builder’s QC.
It's quite common for a mechanic to run an engine without valve covers. It's a great way not only for some diagnostic purposes. Some older engines thatvwas the best way to adjust the valve lash. Sometimes it is messy depending on the oiling system but a good mechanic would do his best to minimize the mess.
Gm small blocks with cylinder shut off was the best way to see if a lifter collapsed was by runn in g engine with covers off. Watch for which valve wasn’t moving and that was your collapsed lifter
I worked at a shop where the boss had deflectors you could attach to a small block Chevy that let you run without covers and keep the mess to a minimum. I think it might’ve been a JC Whitney thing…
Ford has those too. Bolt to the top of the rocker stud. Use them for adjusting valve backlash. I think mine are Moroso. @@buckdashe2571
You used to have to run with valve covers off in order to adjust the valve lash. {:~)
Hey Ray, what an interesting video. When you pulled those covers with the over torqued fasteners, broken fasteners, etc and found they had sludge underneath I was stunned. Not to mention the oiled paper they customarily use on new metal parts inside. At least the parts inside the engine looked new. When you see stuff like this, it makes you wonder what other shortcuts were taken when rebuilding this "Premium" engine. Looking forward to see where this goes. You are the perfect guy to have done this since you have done a complete step by step video for the insurer's enjoyment. Cheers!
Ford reman engines usually come without valve covers and ignition coils. Original installer grossly overtorqued valve covers and installed a damaged, mismatched set of used coils.
This tomfoolery is standard procedure for shady companies of all kinds. They put up so many hoops to jump through that they expect nobody to actually jump through them and thus can deny all warranty claims. But here you are jumping through those hoops to prove a point.
They never expect someone stubborn enough to jump through their hoops on principle
Quick judgement. All it takes is one employee with a hangover to taint your public image or reputation.
Then we have the pandemic fiasco to consider, if that applies.
Thats what I was going to say also. They figure they will get you to quit doing all the stupid crap, and finally win the battle.
And then they deny the claim for running the engine without valve covers and “accidentally lose” all correspondence telling him to do it.
Paying claims doesn’t buy a new super yacht for the ceo this year.
That paper might have caused an oiling issue, that caused excessive chain and sprocket wear resulting in the rattle
And that alone should be enought for a warrenty replacement as you don't know where all the paper is in the engine now. If it's plugging an oil port that could then start a bearing and thus cause the engine to lock up.
@@davedobson5869 nope they use that to denie warranty as its last shops fault for laving it in there not builders
That depends, Ray said the owner paid for the Deluxe rebuilt engine, to me that means their top of the line build. It probably was shipped from the rebuilder to the installer’s shop with the valve covers already installed. If that’s the case, then the rebuilder will need to warranty it, or deny the claim for another reason.
@@ralfie8801reman engines come in long block form! No valve covers, intake, front cover, ECT. That's why there was sludge inside the valve covers
@@bigdaddymak1439
I know how reman engines are built, I’m just not convinced that this Ford modular engine with VVT would be shipped without the aluminum covers to protect the expensive VVT sprockets they installed. That just doesn’t make any sense to me.
I did notice the oil fill cap was upside down that may be the problem 😅Aussie Graham
I get anxiety when you don't bungy the wires and hoses out of the way. But your narration and knowledge is unbeatable. Thanx
What a pain! Your patience in a situation like this amazes me. Once again your professionalism as a mechanic shows throughout. Kudos to you my friend!
If the warranty company sees this video they're going to deny the warranty because of that paper in the engine from the original install
I hope Ray was billing by the hour for that fiasco. If the warranty folks don’t say it, I will , thank you, Ray!
I'm pretty sure they made the requirements absurd on purpose in the hope that it discourages people from actually using the warranty.
I can't think of any good reason why you would need a video of the engine running with the valve covers removed.
Car warranties are just like any other, they don't care about you, just their profit lines. They screw the techs and the purchaser. @@99domini99
I hope you're getting paid to jump through these hoops. If nothing else you have evidence of a shoddy "rebuild". Always look forward to your entertaining videos. It's inspiring to watch the patient and thourough manner in which you perform every job.
I had to spend $2500 once to prove the water company had screwed up my water supply. I had to pay the money upfront and then they reimburse me when they found out they were wrong. I hope that somebody is paying Ray for this time.
If the perps pay Ray for "the proof of what the obvious fault is" work, and Ray tells the owner what's wrong, can they sue Ray for disclosing coporate secrets, and then everyone hires lawyers ?
I think where the oil is spraying out is from the bearing cap. This bearing is where the oil is fed to from the actuation solenoid to the cam phasor to operate the cam phasor. If this bearing has excessive leakage between the bearing and the cam, the cam phasors won't work right. I see another YT video that had shown this same problem. The cam bearings were worn out. It is just aluminum on steel. Maybe someone here can explain it better than I can. As far as the paper under the valve cover goes, that is inexcusable. The truck owner got a raw deal.
I loved the reference to Twister ( my favorite movie). "There once was another Bill an evil Bill, and I killed him" lol love it.
While Ray is getting past the broken coil mess, I'm betting the exhaust manafold leak has broken manafold bolts nearby. 🔮
While underneath fitting the oil pressure gauge we could see the manifold bolts appeared to be new.
I would bet plenty of money that severely over torque on the fasteners sheared a couple exhaust studs because they were torqued to yield. Bet it blows a head gasket at some point relatively soon, too because the person who built it obviously doesn’t know what a torque wrench is.
That paper you found is what the cam phaser comes wrapped in. 🤔 makes you wonder. I hate warranty companies. Great job Ray🇺🇸✌️👍🏼
They say things happen a reason , be a blessing to taken off valve covers discovered that plastic paper it had worked its way into oil pan gotten stuck in the oil pickup may had serious engine failure from oil starvation . Great videos ray keep up good work
How can I fail, let me count the ways! 1: leave plastic sheet in engine, 2: over torque valve cover fasteners, break coil hold downs, and at least on coil.. now what else can I do to fail as an engine builder????
No wonder Unhappy Ray showed up. It's ok Ray we're in your corner, take five breath deep and move on with your day! 😊
Sorry, one coil.
my father has a 2010 F-250 Super-Duty he been using as a yard only plow truck ( upstate NY here) and we have a friend doing some engine (top half) work on it, 5.4l 3v as well, let me tell you the damn parts we needed are so costly- each valve cover bolts- $9.50, Fuel Rail clips EACH- $44 no kidding!! and there is no Fuel Rail anywhere in the us , we called every dealer and looked on amazon but its a dealer part (typical) both manifolds replaced again as they were replaced back when it was under warrenty. many other parts we had to get so he can plow snow and this truck only has 38k miles on it!! anyway love your videos, they are so educational as always, thanks Ray!
Well some times it is the metal alloy used, all ways keep that in mind for why some thing costs a lot, and the alloy can make a huge difference when it comes to corrosion and tensile strength, I seen it sink a ship, guy didn't want to spend money so got cheap after market bolts, they corroded faster then the speed of light where the OEM's cost 4 times as much but barely had rust on em, I'm sure they're still good some where at the bottom of the ocean to which he accidentally dropped them!
That was high end patience and positivity from your side.
No comments on why they made you do it.
Ray, seeing you have to go through all you did and keep your wits and patience about you while doing it, reminds me of why I don't care to pop the hood on modern engine compartments today. I loved turning wrenches on the 60's and most 70's engines. The way these car engines and built and are installed today presents a real nightmare for me. I just don't have the patience for it after years of working on even big block motors under hoods with plenty of workspace and easy access to most engine components that were simple and easy to understand and evaluate. My hats off to you!!!!👏👏👏
54:32 - "I just do what I'm told!"
Every time I hear Ray saying that, I can just mentally see the Wife Unit rolling her eyes, laughing ironically and going "Yeah, right!".🤣
31:26 Ray: When was the last time you heard someone call something a "Doozy"?
Trivia time: That's a Doozy phrase was first used when working on a Duesnburg
The "engine rebuild" people are likely hoping the customer will go away by demanding "proof". I do remember the bodge job they did with the wiring. Really sad they take money for such shoddy work.
FYI, from the little I have seen of Dave, I really like him. He has a good attitude and sense of humor.
The engine rebuilder will see this and wash his hands saying it's the installers problem.the installer will wash his hands saying now that you have played with it its your problem now. The warranty was and is worth nothing, the automotive equivalent of musical chairs. It's now time for the lawyers to take their shares.
My philosophy is “if man made it man can fix it” remain calm and all will go smooth
I've rebuilt 4 engines in my life..they are all still working some 15 years now.
I cannot believe you found some paper in the upper engine!
When I saw that in there.. i actually was taken aback in my chair.....my jaw dropped,
my eyes widened, and i thought: "What the hell"!!.
That alone should have been warrant enough to warrant the engine with NO questions asked.. and then I was shocked that you said you wanted to repair that engine.
What I would have done with that thought, i would pull that engine out of the vehicle, put it on an engine stand and strip it to the bones and check out for any other "things" that may have been installed wrong.
Then I would have tenderly put it back together .
You sir, are a SAINT!!!
In other words , i would have not taken the finding of strange things inside the engine..that
paper looks like it may have been on the cam lobe at one point in time. Just guessing.
Well, I'm old , what the hell do i know.....that is what young kids today think of anyone who
has the amount of experiance that they have....but MONEY seems to be at play here.
I recently put on over $700.00 of new cooper tires on our suv...i wanted snow tires, but ended up having m+s tires. (mud and snow), when they were finished they had put on a TOTALLY DIFFERENT type of tires on...RAIN tires...omg it's winter..why would i want rain tires....they even tried to convince me to keep on my vehicle what they had mistakenly put on. I heard them (WALMART) for almost 10 minutes that they were not going to put on what i wanted, but that i needed the ones on my suv.
I guess because im old.....i was available to have whatever they wanted for me on my vehicle....or that I was just stupid or something lol.
I finally got what i wanted..the cashier/writer of our appointment made the mistake of
having the wrong tires.
Things happen....not her fault totally....well, yes it was lol.
but hey Ray, in the end...you can believe us or you can leave us right?!!
Even better is that they just slapped the gasket over the paper making a wick for oil to pour out of the valve cover. Excellent work by the stereotypical Florida man.
the twister reference was caught and appreciated. RIP Bill Paxton
That piece of paper likely said "WARNING!

😂😂😂😂
to find paper in a renovated engine should have all the christmas bells ringing. Hopefully are there engine work shops that have employees who are putting an effort in their job.
This video, and the previous video on this truck, proves every argument I have on why I’d never pay to have a motor replaced, the vehicle would simply be sold. Only one exception, if Ray did the rebuild and installation, that would be okay.
The experience I had with the 5.4 is one of the reasons there's a Toyota in the driveway! 2002 5.4 2 valve, sparkplug launcher!
Every morning, I look out to see my Toyota 4runner sitting there, and I still smile!! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
@Fordtechmakeyouloco has built a career off the 3v. He knows this engine better than anyone else I’ve ever seen. The rattle on startup only is usually caused by HYD cam chain tensioner(s) leaking down. Operating it with this issue for long enough will cause damage to the cam chain guides and it progressively gets worse.
They probably used aftermarket timing components which is a big no no on these engines
Wouldn't it be nice if everyone who calls themselves "technician's", all had the INTEGRITY that you have! I am glad you and I are on the same page as far a integrity is concerned. Thaank you for what you do and HOW you do it! Duel Master ASE Master Tech, now retired. Richard
Hey Ray, when you say Nobody Cares -- well, we care! And you provide a great channel for us to watch, and to be glad all of the oil is spattering over you and your shop and not over us!
🤭
The issue with the ejecting spark plugs was that they only had 3 threads holding them in we had one come out bend the fuel rail and start an engine fire
Bet that made for an exciting day! I prefer boring most of the time.
That’s a 2v issue. This is a 3v.
I hope the plastic debris pieces have not partially blocked the oil pick-up tube strainer. I know you said there was satisfactory oil pressure, however the plastic wrapper debris might have moved giving you good pressure now, it might not always be good. no matter what happens, if it is a phasor issue or not, the sump has to come off to look in the sump and at the oil pickup tube. Plus the fact that I would expect a total replacement because I don't expect an engine I paid for to have any foreign bodies in it.
My own observation is there seems to be TWO distinct groups of people: (-1-) get er done and (-2-) enjoy the journey.
Mom would hustle thru housework to sit down and read a book. She just wanted it done , i.e. get er done.
Dad had a avocation to refinish furniture. He simply delighted at removing old finish to then carefully sand in graduated number sandpaper to perfection... then apply finish also to perfection. To him the journey was a simple delight.
Life is a mix of both. However, if one can settle on a profession where one deeply enjoys the process along with a finished project/product then they will have better patience and payoffs... just sayin'
Ray shows great detail in every step.
Also, it's never boring. Not ever boring. Just FYI, not boring but fun and informative..
Wow!. That's literally all I can say. How places like that stay in business is beyond me. The idea that you have to prove the problem in order for them to take the warranty claim seems ridiculous. Should just send them a picture of the JB weld busted coils and the paper under the valve cover; that alone should be enough to prove the quality issues without going any further.
Excellent video showing your attention to detail and I could definitely hear the frustration in your voice. As others have said, a lesser man would be throwing tools all over the shop and cursing the Automotive Gods for saddling them with things like this. Good job, Ray and hang in there, buddy. The warranty company should be paying you dearly for this job and hopefully they're going to do the right thing for you AND the customer.
Makes me love my 03 RAM everyday. 70,000 miles none the less. As well these new vehicles remind me of the 80’s when under the bonnet those engines were wrapped in bullshit. Engineers got to love em’ 🤦♂️
How time repeats itself.
Back in the 1970s, early smallblock GM engines called for adjusting the hydraulic lifters on the fly with the engine at operating temperature.
I think the point was that no one would do it so the warranty would be unobtainium.
Thats the cutest guard dog I have ever seen.
Someone did a bang up job on that valve cover and coil job… I feel like this is every mechanic in my town, burn folks left and right by $2,000 at a time and something else failing in a week .. braking latches and hatches and stuff they had no business touching and even run all the fuel out until it wouldn’t start joy riding it… seen a woman in a bmw suv coming and jacked it up.
Where can I buy some of that special ‘Engine Paper’? 🙀🤣🤣
Great video, Ray. I do wonder why anyone chose to ignore your experience and advice. 🤷🏻♂️
Watching a video like this only reinforces that I made the right decision NEVER to have anything to do with vehicle repairs. You, Sir, have amazing patience and attitude. I salute you.
I heard from a trusted source that blue shop towels will work as a substitute for "engine paper". (REEEE 🤣)
Loved that Jedi move catching your ratchet! Great Video Ray!
I bought a stethoscope from Harbor Freight when I had to find the bad rocker arms on my 3.6 Pentastar, shocker right 😂. Anyway, very good tool to find the exact rocker arms that went bad. Atleast you had this opportunity to make a cool video. I think that paper tells a big part of the story and the dirty sludged valve covers.
I have noticed Ray is now a businessman, yet he still got bolt gravity to deal with. you gotta love it.😂😂😢
Good day to you Ray. Another fantastic video. As you say, somebody sat behind a desk, and probably knows nothing about engines, or even cars. It’s great that you video everything, then they will see the bodge up job done on installing the engine. Stay safe Ray , and keep these instructional videos coming. I learn something every time. Have a good day.
Gonna need a case of brake clean now.
It appears that everyone involved with this engine will receive an angular drive shaft reward in the rear end.

Good morning Mr Ray hope y'all have a great day. It's cold here this morning 22 degrees and yall think 60 is cold, 😂😆
Man, what a "premium" rebuild, huh? Thas was super interesting to watch, thanks Ray!
Yep. Those stripped bolts are weight savings for make up for all the extras included. That paper wrapper in the engine, the 50-100% extra torque, so many bonus features over a normal engine.
Ray, you are very amusing and a good guy. Your stuff is very entertaining and educational. Keep at it.
As an owner of a 06 , F150 , 5.4 , this was very interesting . I have always maintained that the oil be changed on regular basis. I use synthetic and a 5000 mile interval . So far that seems to work with this motor very well . Thanks for this video . Stay safe , have fun .
I also have the 05 and change the oil the same. This is a good motor if you look after it,
Well the problem with these engines is if you even skip one oil change or extend it to 10,000 or even 7,000 mi your engine is going to grenade on these particular engines I would change them every 3 to 4,000 mi even with synthetic
How many miles you got on yours?
Syn oil doesn't need to be changed at 5K miles, waste of money, and creates more waste...it's 2023, join it
@@cengeb That very well may be so for your vehicles, but if you've watched enough tear down videos of these 5.4 3v's you would know what's up with the frequent changes.
My 2010 Corolla starts its horrible sounding chain rattle upon start up right around 4K miles between changes.
While that engine doesn't have the failures the 5.4 3v does, I take that as a sign that something is different in the oil and it's time to change.
My 98 4.6 Expedition used to do the same exact thing.
Plus, you get carbon and possibly metallic and other types of build up. The oil filter only does so much for this.
Being ones boss equates to many issues, but nothing like having a so called boss lurching over your shoulder.
I remember a video of yours where another "tech" cross threaded lug nuts n you were called to rescue the problem, and did in the middle of your job.
That's your sticktoitofness......congrats/kudos to you
You Sir, have the patience of a saint. I enjoy ALL your videos. Thanks RRR!
I had an ‘04 F150 with that motor. I changed oil every 5k and full synthetic. Still had big problems. Took it in at about 50k miles for ticking. They replaced some roller followers and only maybe 5 of them. I left for Florida (1500 miles on way) and limped home. It ran find as long as you didn’t ask too much. Couldn’t load the engine. Light pedal movements. Got home, took it straight to the dealer and traded it in. They gave me top dollar. They never even test drove it. It was super clean.
Did the support agent suggest you turn off the engine and turn it back on again to see if the noise went away?
"premium" rebuilt engine includes JB Weld repairs...good to know. Don't suppose you would name drop said company so we steer clear of EVER using their "services"? Another gem, Ray...educational and entertaining as usual!
Wouldn't be sure the rebuild is the same company as the install
no name, libel lawsuit, if proved wrong later.
We all love you because you are so positive. It catches us too, thanks.
Bless you for your good attitude and i hope the owner can appreciate it
After seeing what I saw I would demand a new engine
I agree with several other commenters here. It's pretty obvious that the engine builder is trying to dodge a warranty claim by demanding needless, time consuming, "diagnostic" work that they hope will either be physically impossible to do with the engine still in the truck, or will be disapproved by the customer, so that the claim will just go away. Kudos to both you and your customer for holding the builder to account for their work. Why was there foreign material found trapped under the driver's side valve cover, next to the cam phaser? Why were all the valve cover bolts over torqued? Why was the old sludge never cleaned out from the undersides of the valve covers, before they were reinstalled? That engine builder has a lot to answer for.
It's good of you to do this for your customer!
I understand Ray when you were talking about being in a bad mood. I learned after year 2 to just get it done cause it will make you a better tech an I take on the harder BS other shops would not deal with. I have found great enjoyment out being a Mobile Tech now never knowing what you will find next. Great job as always Ray.
In the long run all the mechanic has to worry about is having skills, knowledge and tools. The problems with the machine belong to the owner of the machine, not the repair tech. Let them get mad if they want to. Anger won't fix anything.
In the past I've gotten the run around in different shops & told story's.I have a good understanding of mechanical & fell sorry for the mechanicly challenged
If that’s a ‘premium’ install I would hate to see the ‘basic’ option!
Sounds great! Ship it out!
This was a very good video.
Oh yeah I know all about the Ford chain/cam phaser rattle! I had to replace my timing chain and two of the cam phasers on my 2011 F150 Ecoboost because of it!
We can see Now how hard mechanics do work.! Thanks for showing us the real work done by GOOD technicians. We appreciate all you do, Ray.
Great video Ray Thank you
Your grace under fire is admirable. You're the best brother! Keep wrenching Ray.
Yeah I just hope this company is not going to try to blame you for anything that you find that's already broken that they messed up on that's why I'm glad you record all this because that was a great example with a spark plug cap being broken I forget what you called it but you know what I mean
Unfortunately with all the tech nowadays, video can be disputed over claims of ai interference/manipulation, that's usually the first things they do to argue themselves out of a warranty and throw blame on the mechanic.
A reman engine usually does not come with valve covers and coils. Its very obvious that the valve covers were not cleaned , just quickly spray painted. The coils were mismatched brands. Those issues fall squarely on the original installer..
@@DinDooIt not if Ray provides the raw footage if requested. I agree edited video can be called into doubt, but the raw footage is easily examined by an expert and proven to be genuine or not.
@@Aspie_Geek_UK True, but doubt is all they need to deny a claim.
I’m glad this truck is back. I really wanted to see it finished.
Have yourself a fantastic Dave, Ray!
What a nightmare of a job. Thanks for the video.
Love you videos, I would feel better knowing you video your work ,so they can't say you broke this or that, I also like how you just laugh off the stuff that would send most guys through the roof 😅😅keep it up.
What a crazy way to start a day
Why do I keep getting an image in my mind of everyone at the warranty company just laughing their $$@ off at this morning's coffee break.
good day to you ray another epic video hope your not too cold in the us its snowing here in the uk and its very cold but the most important thing is to have yourself a great day ray
Chilly in SW London, where are you ?
It's -1C Here in Leafy Letchworth Garden City (35 miles North of London for our US friends) right now but not snowing yet... We always miss the snow... Even a few years ago when the Beast from the East hit the UK, here in LGC we didn't even get a full 1mm of snow at its worst! Even Thunderstorms can hit 15 miles away and circle round us and miss us altogether! I'm starting to get a complex lol
Ray you do an honorable service for your customers! It’s ridiculous how bad a job that the previous technicians did. I know you will take care of this once you prove the problem and get the approval from the warranty company. You rock Ray just stay as you are, and yes you seem to be happy go lucky. We all can have a bad day but you never show it
Great filming! Has to be a pain to do it while working, but it's really good. You channel is going to get huge and it deserves to.
I haven't heard "doozy" in a while. I read somewhere that it actually cones from "Duesenberg". The Duesenbergs were so expensive that people would equate the word with anything superlative or excessive.
In the 30's when Duesenberg was in its prime a rolling chassis was 10,000 dollars and then a buyer had to commission a body.
