    The original Halloren Kulgen have been in production since 1952 by Germany's oldest chocolate maker, Halloren Schokoladenfabrik AG. They got their name from the salt workers who worked in Halle in earlier times, the Halloren , allegedly because the pralines made of cream and chocolate are reminiscent of the spherical silver buttons on the jackets of the Halloren (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloren).

      The W. Bush administration 2005 aloud Chocolate liqueur to be remove during chocolate making to be sold elsewhere. The C liqueur is what made chocolate feel smoother, and added taste. (try Lindt, compared to Hershey's)

    One of my childhood favorites from the 1970s called Choco’Lite, "an airy candy bar consisting of whipped milk chocolate and something described on the wrapper as “crispy chips.” Today, they are but a memory. Introduced by Nestlé in 1972, the Choco’Lite bar consisted of milk chocolate that was whipped, resulting in numerous air pockets that made it much less dense than the typical candy bar. It was given texture thanks to the aforementioned “crispy chips” which remain somewhat of a mystery." But they were great!

      Never ceases to amaze me that run of the mill chocolate is admired so much. Makes me wonder how bad the US stuff is.

    • @retrovelcro
      @retrovelcro 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@beageler Pretty terrible in comparison to what I know of European chocolate, but it's getting better because of craft chocolatiers. Luckily, I knew the wonders of European chocolate at an early age because my best friend was Swiss French.

    • @beageler
      @beageler 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@retrovelcro Ahh, ok. I knew the common preconception that US chocolate tastes like vomit (a certain chemical shared in both because of the production process in the States, AFAIK), but I thought that was only the case for especially cheap stuff. I didn't know that the run of the mill stuff was bad, too. Ritter Sport really is run of the mill here, that's their concept. Run of the mill chocolate with a big variety in additional ingredients.
      The craft scene is a bit confusing. In the case of things like chocolate it is just curious to not just make the general product better, in the case of beer it makes many people from countries with generally good beer angry. The difference is that special variants of things like chocolate are known in europe, too, but in the case of beer the things that are put in craft beer are barbaric.
      By the way, rum, raisins and nuts is one my favourites, too. :-)

    Very sorry to inform you that "Halloren Kugeln" doesn't directly translate to "hello balls" 🤣😅 BUT if you scratch out the "ren" it would (though Kugeln usually translates to 'spheres' instead of 'balls') , so, half a point to Google here

    • @CAP198462
      @CAP198462 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      genau, Hallor-en, the en is a plural ending for monosyllables, thus Hallors. Kugeln can translate as spheres or bullets, and judging by the size and shape one imagines they’re mean to evoke musket balls. Hallors musket balls. Note that’s not genitive case, but nominative plural.

    Probably cause it was specifically saying "from Eastern Germany" I only knew Rittersport (my go to brand since basically ever) and Kalter Hund (but only as self made. Only had it once and wasn't my thing). Definitely never saw Katzenzungen and the other things (including Kalter Hund) in normal stores.
    But now it makes more sense that a friend of mine in the US needs to buy Rittersport in special stores and/or really expensive if Rittersport doesn't seem to be in normal supermarkets in Irland either.
    And now I"m interested in irish chocolate.

    Cool as always, but the chocolate is not from East Germany as the guy claims. For example Ritter Sport is from West Germany, I know that for a fact because I grew up 2 km from the factory. The towns name is Waldenbuch 😉, and yes they have amazing chocolate. My favorite was and is Rum Riegel, ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Got a Mel Brooks flashback. In "History of the World, Part I" the Roman commander is sword fighting Mel Brooks' character. The Roman raises his sword and says, "Goodbye, head!" Mel kicks him in the 'nads and says. "Hello, balls!"
    I think the Tryers got the better end of that deal.

    I find it amusing in these videos how they are given copious amounts of chocolate (granted, not as much today after the first round) and then they are surprised in the latter half when they find the richness and sugar overwhelming. If I had just eaten the equivalent of 3 chocolate bars (not today, as much) I wouldn't be a fan of the fourth one either...

    I live in Germany and grew up here. Ritter sport is good but you need to try different varieties. They have at least 30 different ones and they are ALL better than the one you tried. The rest of the chocolates are probably poison because I never heard of any of them over here.
