Alternate History Kitbashing + America's Debt to the South

Journey to an alternate timeline where George McClellan's Union army is destroyed at the Battle of Glendale due to the boldness of Stonewall Jackson and his units of his paranormally talented Irregular Scouts at White Oak Swamp. With the US invaders unable to fight in the east, a peace is brokered by the United Kingdom and France, and the Southern War of Independence is won. Fifty years later, Johnny Rebs with butternut uniforms and Lewis guns hunt bandits in northern Mexico and hunt down insurrectos in Cuba while the CS races with its northern rivals to see who will finish a canal across Central America.
In this video, I kitbash some Wargames Atlantic WW1 British into alternate history WW1 Confederates for use in games like A War Transformed, explaining my rationales for some of their uniform choices and equipment. I also talk about tendentious historical misrepresentations about America, the South in particular, and the West in general, and the huge debt that is owed to the South for generating most of America's beloved cultural institutions. I also talk about how I don't really care for Harry Turtledove's books.

Thanks for the nuance on this. I am a very proud Southerner. I have an ancestor who served in the Civil War for the CSA. None I have been able to find was ever a slave owner. Those are small odds, as you said.

Those helmets work pretty well for an alternate WWI force!
Are they going to fighting alt-Yanks? Might be cool to give them some ahistorical touches as well - some blue, or maybe even pickelhaube.
And yes, Turtledove sucks and suffers from extreme logorrhea.

In the alt WW2 Pellucidar setting, the US and CS sat out the Great War and were allies against the Axis.

Question: What book had a great explanation for communism? What books in general would you recommend for alt history and settings?

I can't remember exactly what I said in this video about communism, but I'm assuming I said something about a book that provides an explanation of how communism in the Soviet Union lasted so long. If that's the case, I'm talking about Tim Powers supernatural spy thriller "Declare". It's one of my favorite novels.
My favorite alternate history book is actually nonfiction. It's the original "What If? The world's foremost military historians imagine what might have been". There is a sequel to that that in my opinion is not very good, particularly because it does not focus on military history.
