Im a newbie to the ace combat series and, I see why so many people love this game. I am having the time of my life playing AC7 and it’s absolutely stellar!
It at least got a new installment. Front Mission and Armored Core, sadly, haven’t been so fortunate. Those are high on my list for franchises I’d like to see revived on new hardware. Also up there, randomly, is that I’d love to see another Project Sylpheed game. Which, if you can tolerate the voice acting, is arguably the best space dogfighting game since Freespace 2. And one of only a small sleeve of discs I kept for my old 360.

I replayed AC5 HD shipped with AC7 on PS4. normally you will exaggerate the goodness of your childhood favorite games/movies etc. however, even with outdated 2004 graphics, the replay experience still gives me chills (and I even already know the plot!). A true masterpiece
Games were always about the graphics. Even when those graphics consisted of stick-men made of giant pixels people were still bragging about how their stick-men had slightly more pixels than the stick-men in other games.
Tuskegee Ace I need a remastered version in my life cuz I don't think my PlayStation 2 can handle the amount of hours I still put on it just for that game alone
this game helped me continue my passion for aviation back when i was little. now im a pvt pilot working on my other ratings in college. and they say video games are bad for you..... lol
lol a pilot in general.the way i set my path right now i could do anything in the aviation field. including joining the ranks in the air force. thats just a matter of becoming an officer and obtaining my degree

Story wise, Yes, I believe this was the best Ace Combat Story out their. Combat wise, though I liked the 4 plane team in this game, It was to much air to ground combat. Ace Combat 0 was the best Combat based, Air to Air
deckire I liked AC zero better, for me it hadsa grittier story, and combat-wise is much better. You can clearly see the diference between Yuktovanian pilots and Belkan pilots (in AC5). Pilots are much better in Zero, Ace difficulty is a real challenge unlike 5. The best thing AC5 has it is length, with almots twice as many missions as Zero, also all the gamplay things it established, that were further polished in Zero. That being said it is my second favourite Ace Combat, right after Zero.
seyfersnake I would have to agree Ace Combat 5, wasn't the best of the combat systems and in truth I call it Air to Ground Combat, because Literally more then half of the missions involve you into Bomber Fighters (Warthog, Bombcat, etc.). While I did feel like a better Ace in AC0, I found their was a few bugs in it, example the gun targeting system was off centered, (AC6 atleast fixed that, but it was Air to Ground Combat 2.0 with a not so interesting story). I think AC5 had the better story, it wasn't as dark, but I think it went through the game smoother, the plot twist was spot on, While two nations who do not want to be at war are just fighting each other because of one country pulling strings. In which you and your team are wondering are you doing the right thing. AC0, did make you feel a lot more involved in the world, with everyone to tell the tale and having this legend spread around you as your choices changed a few things. I just think it was a step down from AC5 story. But that is just my Oppinion.

However controls in AC5 felt a lot smoother than in AC4, it was a clear improvement.My problem with AC5's story is its optimistic take on war, i still like the story, but all that "i fight for peace" talk while missiles are flying past your head is not really for me. AC0's PJ is a character that thinks along the same lines, he even states in the middle of the biggest battle in the game "i fight for peace, that why im up here for", to which Pixy sarcasticaly answers "while you are up here fighting for peace, tons of blood is being shed in the ground.. some peace kid .flying with those ideals is gonna get you killed". I just love all that "why are we fighting for" thing AC0 has.
I did not know what ace combat was at the time I found this game. I didn't know it was a complete jetfighting game but when I watched the trailer I thought I was going to be fighting this beast of a guy named Razgriz, yet when you find out you were the Razgriz, was like the most awesome thing ever experienced.
3:11 in the first trailer, Harling is shown in front of the osean flag in this scene, but in the final cut they've changed it to the yuktobanian flag which represents the truce. It's amazing how much thought they put into it

This is it. This is the flight sim by which all others should be judged by. Microsoft Flight Simulator, Assault Horizon, Over G Fighters, move over. I cannot recall a better flight game before or since with the possible exception of Wing Commander, and one I still play watch and enjoy today some ten years after it's release.
Fox hound Let me rephrase then...Falcon 4.0 I understand is the final word as far as teaching you how to fly a plane for real goes, correct? Does it compare to The Unsung War though? To use another example SWAT 3 tried to emulate every little detail from fire and movement to penetration of different rounds through different materials, and is a fine game. Now take Metal Gear, itself going through a fair degree of work if you look at how soldiers search and clear a room for example. Does the fact the final boss turns out to be one of the baddest women ever seen who was the hero of Normandy detract on the basis that it may not be a true to life accurate depiction or portrayal? No of course not. Nor, I believe, does the fact you don't need a certain number of hours in training simulators detract from Ace Combat's greatness.

Essentially it means that the idea that you actually are the Demons of Razgriz as hinted at in the game, that may not be realistic. It may not be realistic for the Yukes or Belkians to freak out over you and your wingmen. But it does make for perhaps one of the coolest scenes in the series. Top Gun did something similar in that the real pilots they had consulting said that the film was unrealistic in it's depiction of air battles. Jerry Bruckheimer was it? He tried doing it their way and it was too boring, so Rule of Cool was brought in. Now as far as a teaching tool, a guide to how the Raptor's stealth capabilities operate in a combat zone or the effects of jet wash on a Indian Jaguar go, Ace Combat is not a flight sim. Ace Combat is the Top Gun to Falcon's...say, the History Channel's Diggers: A Century of Conflict: Australian Aviation. Or some such.
Today is Sunday, February 4th, 2018. I remember watching this trailer for the first time and going bonkers over it. Then I played the game. The game lived up to the hype and then some. To date, this is, to me, the greatest video game trailer / intro in gaming history. It's appropriate that it's attached to what is, to me, the greatest video game ever made. That's saying something since I first played a video game when I was four years old and it was "Combat" on the Atari 2600. No game before or since, of ANY genre, has given me the fun that Ace Combat 5 has (although 4, 0 and 6 do come close). To this day, I still play it on my PC with PCSX2 and I mean I play it EVERY day. Not bad for a game that I bought on the day it was released. LOL

watching this video inspired me to fish out my old PS2, which I thought was broken for over 6 years, and give it another try. Like magic, it worked, and now I'm replaying AC5. Thank you.
Klm751 I would buy the shit out of an HD remake. PC port please! I installed a PS2 emulator just to play my old copy of the game, but was stuck playing the game in 480p. Looks terrible on my 1080p monitor. Namco's weird PS2 graphics engine causes lines to appear if you try to upscale it.
This is a contender for the best game I have ever played for me. I played it first in 2019 somehow without any spoilers. I watched the trailer thinking razgriz was going to be the main enemy oh boy was I surprised when I found out who they really were. I'm so glad i got to experience this game without spoilers so later after release.
I remember watching this trailer when I was younger. I never was a huge fan of the series but I did play them every now and then via rental ace combat 5 was probably the only one though that really left an impact, great game. Might have to pick it back up one more time.
+Peter Stewart 6 wasnt quite the level of 5, but still a great game. It still retained its own charm, flavor, and (sort of) theme. especially the unforgettable Liberation of Gracemaria. I still enjoy it. Even if it didnt quite make me shed tears like 5 or 0 did.
The game with the most involving storyline and most interactive atmosphere ever. When the atmosphere is sad you feel down, and when it is hopeful really cheers you up. I've played it whole more than five times just to feel it again, it is like (actaully way better than) a movie.
Oh my gosh I'm fighting back tears, this was the Best Game I've had. The unique thing is that this game seemed to appeal to a certain niche rather than regular gamers.
I still remember and love this game thinking about buying a PS2 just to play this game again I would play this game for hours beat it and start over again countless times.

Worth every penny the day I bought it back in 2005, I have never seen a game fill you with the same emotions the characters feel, Far Cry 3, no, Fallout, no, so on and so forth, but this game pulls it off. Also the graphics are great for their time, it's just an all around good game!
Agreed, I cried when chopper died and cheered when I destroyed that stupid floating piece of crap in the last mission. The music is excellent and so is the storyline, best game ever!!!!

The most story-heavy game in the Ace Combat series! And one of the best games in the series! And it has one of the best soundtracks ever! My most favourite AceCombat games is - Ace Combat 2 (Because it was first for me, and has one hell of OST!), Ace Combat 5 (this one) and Ace Combat Zero (Because it is has a perfect ballance between story and gameplay - and also great OST).
The only flaw in 7’s campaign: the lack of character development compared to previous games (5 in particular). There were too many squad members encountered too quickly with little time to get aquainted with them. So when characters such as Full Band, High Roller and Champ got their cheeks clapped, zero emotion was felt. Hell, barely anything was felt when Wiseman and Tabloid died. I didn’t even notice Tabloid died until my 4th playthrough.
@@saltystalin5088 yeah Tabloid got killed by saving that girl from being crushed due to falling drones but you are correct takes time to learn the name of the characters. It's not like when Lieutenant Colonel Alvin H. Davenport aka Chooper crashes in AC5 then most people shed a tear or two
Groza Dallocort Chopper’s death was a lot more memorable since the player spent half of the game with him at their right wing. In 7, Tabloid is only in the squadron for like 4 missions then he just disappears with the lesbian mechanic who never washes her hands and we only see him in cutscenes or in dialogue. The character development would’ve been mucho grande better if the player spent the entire game with more than one person. Count could have been a little more unique too. He just came off as an off-brand Pixy that didn’t try and kill you in the end.

I still play this game since my PS2 works. The story is by far one of the best that Ace Combat has done. This game NEEDS a remake.

This is a contender for the best game I have ever played for me. I played it first in 2019 somehow without any spoilers. I watched the trailer thinking razgriz was going to be the main enemy oh boy was I surprised when I found out who they really were. I'm so glad i got to experience this game without spoilers so later after release.

I remember watching this trailer when I was younger. I never was a huge fan of the series but I did play them every now and then via rental ace combat 5 was probably the only one though that really left an impact, great game. Might have to pick it back up one more time.

Peter Stewart 6 was actually pretty good with the story. But Assault Horizon and beyond was not that good.

The game with the most involving storyline and most interactive atmosphere ever. When the atmosphere is sad you feel down, and when it is hopeful really cheers you up.
I've played it whole more than five times just to feel it again, it is like (actaully way better than) a movie.
Oh my gosh I'm fighting back tears, this was the Best Game I've had. The unique thing is that this game seemed to appeal to a certain niche rather than regular gamers.
Almost 20 years after the release gamers still use the nickname Razgriz in several games, they even replicate the emblem in Armored Core VI.

Worth every penny the day I bought it back in 2005, I have never seen a game fill you with the same emotions the characters feel, Far Cry 3, no, Fallout, no, so on and so forth, but this game pulls it off. Also the graphics are great for their time, it's just an all around good game!
Agreed, I cried when chopper died and cheered when I destroyed that stupid floating piece of crap in the last mission. The music is excellent and so is the storyline, best game ever!!!!

My most favourite AceCombat games is - Ace Combat 2 (Because it was first for me, and has one hell of OST!), Ace Combat 5 (this one) and Ace Combat Zero (Because it is has a perfect ballance between story and gameplay - and also great OST).

A decade old, and still one of my all-time favorites!
The only flaw in 7’s campaign: the lack of character development compared to previous games (5 in particular). There were too many squad members encountered too quickly with little time to get aquainted with them. So when characters such as Full Band, High Roller and Champ got their cheeks clapped, zero emotion was felt. Hell, barely anything was felt when Wiseman and Tabloid died. I didn’t even notice Tabloid died until my 4th playthrough.

@@saltystalin5088 yeah Tabloid got killed by saving that girl from being crushed due to falling drones but you are correct takes time to learn the name of the characters.
It's not like when Lieutenant Colonel Alvin H. Davenport aka Chooper crashes in AC5 then most people shed a tear or two
Groza Dallocort Chopper’s death was a lot more memorable since the player spent half of the game with him at their right wing. In 7, Tabloid is only in the squadron for like 4 missions then he just disappears with the lesbian mechanic who never washes her hands and we only see him in cutscenes or in dialogue. The character development would’ve been mucho grande better if the player spent the entire game with more than one person. Count could have been a little more unique too. He just came off as an off-brand Pixy that didn’t try and kill you in the end.

One of the best titles ever. Not everyone can play games like this......even those people would sit and watch. Not one eye was dry watching squadrons join up with Wardog/Razgriz for the final battle
