Fun Fact....Selena always held her microphone sooo close to her lips that lipstick stayed rubbing off on it & from this concert.... That particular microphone is on display at her museasem☺☺

Fun Fact: Suzette (Selena’s said sister) said because of the huge size of the dome, Selena & the band couldn’t hear themselves in real time, everything from Selena’s voice to the live instruments had a 5-10 sec delay, Selena had no ear piece either just a mic. This was her third year there, the first year was a lot more nerve racking she says.

I watch a lot of Disco Medley reactions on here & Anthony I believe you’re the only one who has pointed out the earring falling. LOL that sold me! 😂👏🏽 but yes this performance is from her Houston Livestock & Rodeo concert on Feb. 26, 1995 at the Houston Astrodome (she broke the record with 67,000+ fans, beating her own records from '93 & '94). Yes, she was 23 years old here, & her brother (with the glasses) is on bass, her husband on guitar, & unfortunately her sister was unable to perform on drums because she hurt her foot. This is publicized as her "last concert" but it technically wasn't because she did perform in March a few times before her murder on 3/31/1995 a few weeks before her 24th birthday. The whole concert is posted on her official TH-cam, but broken up by songs. It's about an hour long, she performed nonstop with no water breaks, no fans to cool her off, & she was 100% live! Fact is that Selena designed all her wardrobe including this outfit. Her talents were endless. Selena was our very own super star from Texas, as a Texas native and Hispanic American going to her concerts was a super day/evening to never forget. Taken from us way to soon. But, she's never too far away, just pop one of her CD's or videos and there she is. RIP sweet Selena, Texas and the world loves you.
The backup singer's name was Don Shelton. He past away from cancer.

You guys have to 100% watch the classic 1997 biopic "Selena" starring Jennifer Lopez, the role that made her into the legend that she is today.
Yes we’ve seen the movie, it definitely is a classic. Jennifer killed that role.🙌🏽 But we haven’t watched the series yet

When I first saw this performance as a kid, I wasn't aware of the original artists that made those songs so I naturally thought they were Selena's songs. When I heard the original artists as an adult, (no disrespect to the original artists) but voice quality Selena brings to those songs doesn't compare to the originals that just how I feel 🤷🏻♀️ lol To me they will always be considered Selena's songs cuz she sing the heck outta them and LIVE at that. I love the grit in her voice. I am a fanatic of hers. If you watch the rest of the concert she gives the dancers some time to shine and dance center stage. Also she was 23 when she died. This was one of her last major concerts. She had some smaller ones weeks before she died.
She did covers at an early age of Billie Jean and what have u done for me lately. I believe they are on TH-cam. She may have 15 at the time you can tell her voice wasn't as developed yet for Billie Jean but she still knocked it out of the park. She even included the moonwalk in her one of other live performances the camera blocks a bit but she did it! She loved MJ and Janet... I'd say she shares similarities to MJ in her consistency, her stage presence, vocal range, and dance moves and her ability to let things "simmer" lol I feel if she was alive today she'd be comparable to MJ status or the female version. The Netflix series is amazing. Its got a lot of negative reviews but i think its way better than movie. Also her back up singers name is Don Shelton. He passed away a few years back from cancer.

Man I was young in the early 90s but when she sang you listened. Things have not changed.

That same mic she used over and over again through out her performances and thats how it accumulated her lipstick on it. Also Selena had been anxious about singing finally in her first language which was English as she was born in tX and didn’t learn Spanish until she started getting thousands of Hispanics fans from Mexico as she expanded her tours out to Mexico and had to give interviews in Spanish. As you can tell here she finally was singing what she wanted to be singing all along. And she seemed so comfortable and victorious singing in her first language. If only she would have launched a full English album ! Selena the greatest!

She’s was famously known for always having lipstick on her mic. Her parents said after every concert she would sit down and clean It. After her passing they put up her last microphone up for display at her museum (still red from her lipstick) 🥲

It’s important to remember that Selena was an American first and foremost. English was her first language and she was raised on Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, Jody Watley etc. She actually wanted to make music like that but her father pushed them into tejano. She was murdered while she was in the process of recording her first English album.

In the beginning you mention her maybe having a lot of makeup (lipstick) on, I believe she never wore a heavy amount of makeup in general. Compared to makeup today such as highlighter on cheekbones and contouring, I want to say none of that was a thing in the 90’s or that time atleast (I could be wrong). She was known to sing very close to her mic, literally having her lips touch her mic a lot so that could be the main reason in her mic being covered with her lipstick. Her sister I believe mentions that Selena would clean her mic after every show with a toothpick or other item but she may not have made time to after this concert. Also, the brand of lipstick she wore is discontinued and has been since around the time of her death I believe. I think the brand was called Chanel and the shade of lipstick Brick. It’s a really rare product to find authentic and/or new, I’m sure there are plenty of 3rd party and/or knock off versions of it.

I heard in an interview from her dad that Selena, as a ritual before each show, would get a lipstick and rub it over the mic and then clean it herself at the end of the show. I want to say they even mentioned that in her last show she did not clean it and that’s how the now mic is up on display in the museum. Please correct me if I’m wrong 🙂

But just so you know I like how she describe when she been through before she was a latino - female singer because in her time male singers were the only dominant lead roles and in what she said was right when they thought only males can sing the lead role the wrong and she prove it that any women can a achieve their dreams if they work hard to succeed in it and also she was a very caring loving woman she cared about her family and her husband and everyone around her she's generally a bright person and seems to care about others than herself so it was kind of shock to hear that she passed away it felt like a a shooking pain to my heart because when you see a good person die it'd just be like a rain cloud just pouring over your head even though I wasn't born in and that time since I was born in 2003 but I always had listened to her song since I was a child and I'll be honest the music of how she be singing you could definitely feel her pain of when what she went through and that song like no me queda Mas and I'm not going to lie she kind of help me through Elementary when people weren't treating you right she taught me that no matter how hard life is never give up on your hopes and dreams ever and keep achieving further and also Selena's death did not die in vain she will always be remembered as the woman who inspired me to achieve great things in life and to never give up no matter how hard life is and no matter how bad people will prevent you from doing so always keep fighting to achieve your dreams and dignity

My Selena was 23, her lip stick is a mate type of lipstick. I used to wear that type of lipstick in the 90's. Her foundation she didn't wear much.

Many people have criticized the series saying that it's the dollar tree version of the Selena movie. To be honest I prefer the series. They go into more detail of how Selena came about. Alot of facts about the composition of her songs. I recommend the series 100%.

Selena’s sister suzette had said that after every performance. Selena would clean the lipstick off of her mic. She was so exhausted after this performance. That she intended to do it later. But unfortunately never was able too.
