    Excellent review, in particular showing the head/plate interface in detail.

      Thanks I try to show the areas in detail and up close, I don't like the presenter style videos because you don't see the tripod properly most times!

    Note: the small arca plate is for small cameras and it has the ridge to stop the camera from rotating. It wouldn't make sense to remove the ridge, they would just include a bigger plate if they wanted. But the small plate will fit the most cameras, and it's cheaper, and larger plates are affordable and ubiquitous, and many people have lots of them, so I just don't consider anything about the plate to be a negative haha. It's a good small plate, and the price is right.

      @MrBazReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Only point to make is, not everyone has a "small camera". It's not going to fit DSLR/SLR cameras, and might not fit larger mirrorless bodies or ones with grips on.
      So my vote is remove the ridge, it's not needed and it limits use with other cameras.
      Any who wants a bit of metal sticking up which can contact the camera body?
      The better solution is to do what Sirui did with the ST-10X head, the plate is still small but you can (if you want to) flip up the red plastic parts to prevent the camera rotating.
      I dislike the plate on this myself, otherwise it has some good design touches

    Comparing to Manfrotto 290 Light, this one is amazing. I wish I could use it with BMPCC4K + cage, but the base ball head is too weak. So, the 1/4 pole is pretty much a must-have.
    Also - great review!

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can see the design thinking on this one, as you say a larger/heavier load it's better suited to using the column that lets you use your own head. Might have gone with a slightly thicker size for the column. Realistically 2-3KG is fine on this, but the small plate/head could be an issue for some. It is small, and light, with reasonable stability for a tripod in this class, they did a pretty good job in most areas I think.

    • @DenBlendaman
      @DenBlendaman ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBazReviews I have no problem with design for small DSLR or even cine cameras with no cage, 4KG max for a specialized travel tripod is absolutely acceptable. Not all tripids can be universal, even $400 ones.
      And the simple fact, that $30 mini strip pole for sado-mazochists can transform Zero Y from specialized tripod to a universal one, that is lighter, higher and more useful then my Manfrotto 290 Light - is just wonderful.
      Sad part is - the tri-pole should have been as a choice from a beginning, cause at release - it was not.
      Also - You can actually use the side 1/4 inch screw hole for Ulanzi F22 base platform. But You'll need a long screw and a shortened (by hand in my case) 1/4 to 3/8 inch screw. Any other way for me doesn't work, the legs are too thicccc boys and don't allow anything wide to be connected there. And if something is connected - no chance of using the travel bag.

      They did go with thicker legs, though this might help with the stability, some other travel tripods got some criticism for wobble issues. I think the platform is a good idea, I suppose the target buyer might just be your average mirrorless user, the plate doesn't work well for just about any DSLR (the lip gets in the way), the mirrorless bodies are slimmer.
      I see another model they have with the F22 included. Ulanzi F38 Quick Release Travel Tripod, looks very similar with a different finish.

    I'm kinda afraid to use the Capture Clip from PD on this... does the secure screw is enough to prevent from falling ? The PD plate doesn't have little screw under it to prevent from falling forward or backward.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thing is the PD plate has no stops/screws to stop it sliding off. If you add this to the head design it means some plates won't work (I had this on a Zomei tripod once). So it can slide off but then so will any plate that has no stops integrated into the design. Most Arca type plates have hex screws you can remove if you want to, so you can use the stops or not. Same with some L brackets (looked at one recently has removable screws)
      You can still use that plate, just lock it down so it won't move I have used various plates if you are careful it shouldn't be a problem

      @zictayprod5561 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBazReviews Yes, but a simple vibration can loosen the screw and make the camera fall. Is there a way to lock the screw so that it can't move anymore?

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zictayprod5561 Trust me vibration won't unscrew it there is a fair degree of pressure on the threading with this. I have never had anything fall off or loosen off when tightened.
      Almost no Arca heads have a locking mechanism, a few have a quick release system.

      @@MrBazReviews I received my tripod (This tripod) this morning and tried to press forward a bit when the camera is tight on the tripod. Unfortunately it's what I thought... by exerting a force forwards or backwards 1 time out of 3 the mechanism lets go of the camera I don't know why... yet I really tightened the tripod screw... I don't know what to think if I can trust it or not...

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zictayprod5561 I can only comment I what I have used I have not found this to be the case. I would suggest dumping the PD plates (I find them too small myself and they don't have the safety tab other plates do) but that is your choice. If you are unhappy with anything, I would suggest sending it back
      I don't work for this company I just provide reviews on various products, I've mentioned what I like and don't like, it's up to the user to decide what works.
      I've never had an Arca plate come off this tripod or any other when tightened up fully, perhaps there are nasty cheap heads that might do this, but it's not a problem in use from my experience.

      @@MrBazReviews I have been absent from this channel for a while as I lost interest in all things battery related, ie; flashlights, chargers etc. And went down the rabbit hole of pocket knives. But with the interest of flashlight companies Finally, listening to customers and coming out with lines that focus on real world performance and run times rather than producing the power of the sun for a few seconds I am back into it. Very impressed with the new Thrunite's, TN12 Pro, Catapult Pro , TC20 V2. And what seems like Lithium AA 1.5 volt cells coming of age with companies like Gigastone and AmpTorrent.

      @@TopDog8762 Yes there are some new things coming along, so hopefully I will look at some of them. It gets busy this time of year, slows down Feb/March/April for a bit. So I will work on my own videos when it's quieter with sent products (ie usually photo related). I'm still looking at other items, torches etc. I too go from periods of interest to lacking enthusiasm for some types of products. Good to see you back though, should be a fair number of items to interest you! I'm mostly into playing around with gadgets, but perhaps I should try other things outside looking at gear?
