Hey everyone! I just made a pt 2 to this on my day to day life without social media, watch it here!! th-cam.com/video/tWG6a0mn7Fc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_XVq_OB1B9ELoMa1
People are viscerally angry that I’m getting rid of my iPhone and I don’t understand why they’re so concerned about something that has nothing to do with their lives.
People like to think that other peoples things are their concern. I have lost a lot of friends and people from my life just by doing what i wish with my life and not listening. Now i have maybe two friends in my life and my wife and i am very happy.
I have the same me having a dumb phone gets people annoyed for some reason like they can't reach them or I inconvenience them. I have sms and calls just call me I just don't get it.
I think a lot of them would like to do that themselves, so they are jelous when they hear or see that you are doing that and being successful with it. A lot of them are just miserable and want you to be miserable with them instead of just doing the hard thing. 😢
I think it's mainly because people are so used to communicating through messengers and social media. They just forgot that people can use a cellular phone to actually call each other. That we don't have to update people constantly. It doesn't make it any harder for people to get ahold of you.
As someone who loves to read, I miss reading and I noticed when I got my first smartphone in 2012 that my reading has declined drastically. There’s so much to do on such a small device and then throwing social media apps into the mix = a hot mess. I’ve been thinking about going “old school” again after leaving Twitter this past May by just having a flip phone and an iPod and as time goes by, the urge gets stronger. I have a laptop and an iPad so I’m not completely cut off from the digital world and I can buy a navigation system online. I think I’m the only one with a smartphone whose screen time doesn’t go over an hour per week since I’m not into it anymore. I just use it to order food on, music, Amazon, and podcasts 😅
thats how I was! I no longer use social media and I use my ipad to listen to music, podcasts, and amazon! My focus has improved drastically since switching :)
Hey Amber, I don't usually comment on videos, but just wanted to tell you you're awesome! Making this big step the hard way changing your phone numbers and buy a camera, a gps... To replace the apps you'd actually use in your smartphone it's pretty amazing. I'm thinking about doing the same step, but giving up whatsapp is not really feasible, so I'm thinking to either use it on my laptop or to buy one of those "smart dumbphone"
Loved watching this video and hearing your story! I’m in my early 20s as well and I love seeing this “trend” of adults our age going back to basic phones and using them as tools, and not distractions. I’ve been doing a 30 day social media detox challenge which I am almost done with and it’s gone by surprisingly fast! I haven’t felt the need to reactivate my accounts or redownload Instagram and it has been awesome! I receive my flip phone next Monday and I cannot wait to do a similar challenge to reduce my handheld screen time, be in the moment, and just “regain my wasted hours” that I have spent on my iPhone, hopefully making it a permanent change in the process. Hope to see more updates! Just subscribed!😊
really great video :) i love hearing people’s experiences using a dumbphone! started my journey in 2020 but really went all in at the end of 2022 and never want to go back! it’s so freeing i hope more people experience this
Hey Amber :) Im also at the start of my dumbphone journey right now. For me, it's also something that has been brewing in me for the last year or so. And honestly some friends didn't understand at all. The most important thing is to take care of your mind and body. Wish you all the best! thanks for making this interesting video :3 xoxo
I basically dumbed down my smartphone about 3-4 years ago. You just delete most of the app installed, which can be get ridden of, disable few. I am at the point I have 20 apps in my phone total. Few are installed, Spotify and Banking app. I am at the point now I hardly use my smartphone for anything. Just music for noise and that's it. I am planning to go dumb phone, even if losing Spotify and camera might hurt. I am tired of modern smartphones with needless apps.
I deleted social media a few months ago and I am loving how it has changed my life. However, I feel like I am still relying on my smartphone for too much. I have been thinking about getting a dumb phone for a few weeks now but I am scared to take that step!
I really enjoyed your video, you speak so well!! I’ve swapped to a dumb phone in the past and it was great!! I’m using a smartphone currently but thinking of swapping back again as I just find it too distracting and frustrating… Keep it up 👍
Loved the video. Your presentation and way of talking is rare in modern days. Loved the fact that you picked up new hobbies and daily chores to be busy with. I am going full dumbphone (aided by a superbig tab for urgent needs when travelling) from next week. I had already tried living with a dumbphone earlier for few months and it felt good, until I gave up and went back to using smartphone and social media. However, soon I'm going to travel for a month and I'm taking my dumbphone with me. Hope I learn something new from this experience and get back some peace from JOMO (Joy of missing out). Keep up with the videos! Subscribed! 😊
You’re so sweet! It definitely is an eye opening experience, especially when you realize how much time you have to do hobbies/self care when your attention isn’t on smart devices. My next hobby will be learning to crochet 😌
I am planning to switch to a flip phone next month once the contract on my current iPhone expires and this video was so helpful, so thank you so much!! I did want to ask you - what brand/model did you get for your flip phone and car GPS? I’m currently researching options and there are just so many out there!!
It’s a Tmoblie brand flip phone! The gps I got at Walmart for about $100 😊 waiting for the contact to end is smart because it costed us a lot to end our previous contract with the last phone company 😬
@@ambernicoles Ah, thank you so much for the reply!! Yeah, I really want to be able to keep my current phone number so that is my main reason for waiting.
Even someone spends 2 hrs min. on social media a day it makes 60 hrs in a month nearly 3 days in fact the real numbers are much more. Just mindlessly scrolling. And this time is from precious and limited awakened time span. Also not continous but distracting often cause ruining whole work and life concentration. Shocking numbers really.. You have got so much right Amber.. Really we need go back to the basics.
I still have the flip phone but I did upgrade my old smart phone to a slightly newer version of an iPhone (iPhone SE) for work purposes as i got a promotion that requires a lot more hands on stuff with technology!

This is the best video I have seen on detoxing using a dumb phone. Thank you, Amber.
Thank you!😊

There was so many people in my life who didn’t understand but that’s okay because it’s for me & my well being! You gotta do what’s best for you ❤️

It’s always scary but just know you are in control of your life, not your smart phone!
I like the video format! Relaxing. I just bought my flip phone and can't wait to start
Thanks so much! It’s definitely exciting taking that leap 😄
