  • In this lesson we look at the Blues Scale (or Minor Blues Scale). This is a simple variation on the Minor Pentatonic from the previous lesson and is VERY common in all styles of pop, jazz and blues music.

    Guys I’m finally learning it feels so good, I was in such a hump. I’ve been playing for like five months and only do covers, but I am deciding to learn my scales and understand the fretboard. I watched his sir Duke video just to learn how to play it and didn’t understand anything. Now I watch this video to learn the first scale that I can point out and play I can feel myself understanding things I didn’t before. Even tho I’m far from being good, I’m living the high life rn If I do say so myself.

    This guy can really play but he keeps it measured and easier to understand as he doesnt go off piste with fancy bass runs unlike some people who teach on here.I also like the style of the screen whereby there are no distractions.You have only the bass to look at as there's a white background.No pets running around or other distractions.Really clever and Mark has caught on to this.It focuses you more.I will have to join as my scale knowledge is grim!

    Thanks very much for a clear simple lesson delivered at the right speed for me. So far I have played by feel and experience without the least technical understanding of what I am doing. That was the first 50 years but it's never too old to learn.

    Thanks for another great lesson. As a beginner, fretting the top of the neck is a real challenge. Maybe you could make a quick video on good technique and in particular hand/finger position for things like the c major scale. While I can play it slowly, I believe my approach is wrong and it makes things harder and more uncomfortable than necessary.

    Seems like you are almost saying it is no blues Scale and you are wrong, wrong.

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s not what I said at all. There’s obviously a thing called a blues scale. But ask yourself some questions. Think about a basic blues progression in C. C7 F7 G7. Are the notes of those chords present in the C blues scale? Not at all. Also consider how a blues scales is used. The essential part of the blues scale is the blues note. That note can only be used in passing as an embellishment. You can’t just use it in isolation as a foundation for a melody or any harmony.

  • @sls554

    No you you are wrong that one know makes it the Blues Scale.

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In terms of just an up and down succession of notes, yes, we call that a blues scale as a broad umbrella term but there is a LOT more to music than that. The Blues Scale has very little relation to the notes of the chords in a blues. Yes, it 'kind of' works as a blanket one-size-fits-all scale for soloing. But in terms of application of the blues note, it's simply used as neighbour note or passing note function.

    Believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and you will be saved..Be baptized and repent of your sins. Repent simply means to turn away from your sins. God loves you and so do I.
