I’ve owned and driven many, many inline 6s in my life, ranging across many different brands, from 1959 all the way to 2001 and NONE of them, not one single one of them, sound like a sewing machine. This is a common thing to say about them, for some stupid reason, but none of them sound like that.

    • @Cragified
      @Cragified 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Problem is that Rolls Royce engine is really old school. It doesn't have the side mounts that have been on V8s from the 70s and up. It's supported on the front and rear. Which is why he bought this particular truck, it has the same sort of mountings. A 90s vehicle he'd have to cut cross members, fabricate members and mounts and it would become a much more time and thus money intensive project.

Excellent choices by the Car Wizard!! The original 472 was BORN to be between those fenders. I had more than a few back in the day. Those were potent engines, very torquey! Not too bad on gas if you kept your foot light, maybe 10-11. The truck, that needs to stay original to it's roots. EVERYBODY puts a V-8 [or bigger!] engine; the inline 6 is the right choice. Be different! Swap the ring to something in the low 4's, throw some Vintage Air in it, Mexican blanket on the seat and you're good!!! You'll figure it out. Thanks and stay healthy!!

I had the tags on my old truck....at a car show I talked with a trooper who is also a car enthusiast...his words to me....if you want to use your truck as a truck...go back to the standard tags...you can't use your truck for Menards or Home Depot runs with collector tags...you might get pulled over and cited for that.
So since I could see myself using the truck as a truck...I went back to the annual tags.

The manifolds had issues with cracking, thats why they are expensive and thats why you had someone willing to buy them. I went through the same issue with my 64 429. It took a while to find good solid replacements.

I'm not a car fanatic but I enjoy your videos. You make the discussion very informative and not boring. You can always use the Rolls engine in an old Sherman tank. It will turn a lot of heads.

WIzard, that C30 is so special with the 9' bed, I'm kinda relieved the Rolls V8 swap isn't happening. Great find, and I know you'll do a great job keeping the 261 in it. Thanks for all the great videos.

  • @JamesSterling

On the C30, fix the gaping rust holes in the lower front fenders and put a matching rusty patina on the patches and call it good. If you can get the dent in the front of the hood pounded out without changing the rusty finish then do that. The patina on the body of that truck is perfect! I'd love to have it. Put new springs in the seats and put a horse blanket seat cover on it. That would match the rat rod look of the truck.

Fusick automotive in CT. They started life as an Oldsmobile restoration parts supplier. I know they used to send fuel tank sending unit out to be rebuilt. If there is not a new sending unit available for the Cadillac you possibly could look into having it rebuilt. I’m glad you put the Cadillac engine back in it. Even though I’m an Oldsmobile guy. Those diesel engines make a great small block gas engine. You can build them out to like 440 in.³. I’m sure you will find something to put that diesel and it’ll be cool. I worked out a few of those when I worked in the GM dealership as I stated previous on the Buick Centurion video. We used to replace the injector pumps on a lot of those and a couple times pulled them down and re-did the piston rings

You can still engine swap stuff. You will have to file a builders title. It has a list of all the modifications you have done. I am building a 53f100 on a s10 frame with a 350. Only thing is you will get a title that says 1953 f100 but it will not be tagged as antique.

I own three 69 Cadillacs. A convertible, a parts car and a coupe de ville. Unfortunately I don't have any extra manifolds at the moment. But when you get bored with this Brougham and want to sell her, let me know. It would make a nice addition to the fleet. 😁 But I really do enjoy your videos. I've spent 25 years in the parts and service biz. You're the kind of logical, straightforward mechanic I've always gotten along with very well. I really enjoy watching the progress with a car I'm familiar with.

Thank you for not ruining that wonderful old truck with that low horsepower, low compression, weighs as much as a Hyundai Accent Rolls Royce engine! That big six is the soul of that cool old truck and l'm so glad that officer helped you make up your mind. The uniqueness of the swap would have made for a great conversation piece but they are only original once.

Not sure what you're going to ask for it, but a 350 diesel would be an awesome engine for my Frankenstein jalopy project.
It's an S10 frame that's getting turned into something akin to a side-by-side with an overactive pituitary gland.

    Wiz,
As far as the BroHam exhaust manifolds go, why not weld up a set of shorty headers. You’ll probably have to fab the head flanges but the rest is straight forward. My $0.02. Great channel by the way.

Glad you are keeping your Caddy and truck stock. Both of those are in that rare category of survivor, IE 100% original, never been monkeyed with, never modded, no speed parts, no engine swaps, no bad rust repair and horrid paint respray, no hacked up wiring, no boom boom stereos where they cut the dash, door panels, rear parcel shelf etc. Yeah they might have a bit of wear/character, but they are still as GM built them. With so many original six cylinder Chevys swapped to hotter small or big block V8's, its very refreshing to see something like this truck as the way GM built it.

Both the Cad and the C30 are well worth keeping stock. As for the gear change, I think if you were going to trailer it to collector shows or just use it for a parts getter ( it would be a fantastic parts getter and get you a lot of attention and publicity for the shop) it would be well worth keeping the original gears. If you are going to drive it to shows then you will need to either put better gears in it or get a splitter to make it better for the highway.

I'm really happy with what your doing with the old Chevy now! I love that you'll do the things your talking about to it instead of the engine swap. It would've been a waste of a good classic truck that's unusual because it still exist and in it's original form.

The Wizard proves yet again he is a class act, too many people would just register the truck as an antique with the Rolls engine and then whine about being picked on after they get caught. Which is what many TH-camrs and other people that buy very expensive cars do by registering them in Montana because they don't think they should have play by the same rules like the rest of us do. Keep up the great content.

Definitely upgrade brakes on the truck. Body looks pretty clean, so fix the few dents, paint it and redo the interior close to stock. Someone mentioned putting the rolls motor into a boat. If it was an older boat, maybe a wood boat, that would be awesome!
