Mora did an excellent job on this knife. Your destruction test certifies that this knife will hold up to all Bushcraft tasks as well as some survival uses. Can’t go wrong with Mora!
@@insanodeathguy2160 How often do you plan on striking a brick with your knife in real life though? Mayor's tests are to push things to the absolute extreme, further than you would realistically ever use something.
First video of yours I've seen. At first I thought OMG. I'd never use a knife like that but glad there is someone out there showing us what the limits are. Thanks man.
I must admit, when I first saw one of your "destruction" reviews I thought you had a screw loose ... So thank you very much for making these videos, and testing these knives right to (and over) their limits, so that we don't have to. Really appreciate it, keep up the good work mate. Greetings from Belgium (and my apologies for any grammar mistakes). P.S.: So, the Mora Garberg, despite his "small/thin" size, seemed to pass your tests quite well, would you recommend one ?
Yes, the Garberg is a very strong knife, perfect for Mora collectors ! I am glad you enjoy the tests, and I hope that you get some good information on which knives pass or fail the test. Howdy from Texas ! YeeHaaw ! :) Mayor Fuglycool
@@MayorFuglycools Yes I have to agree with you on that. I have the Mora Garberg carbon and I also have the mora Kansbol, along side that I have the Mora outdoor wood carving knife and last but not least my trusty Companion. This was your most difficult vid for me to watch, I really want one of these when I can afford it. I was not surprised one bit by the edge damage, Mora knives (scandi grinds) are built for wood craft. To see this knife actually survive your test is absolutely rediculous, I'm definitely getting one now.
I am surprised that it held together, and it was one tough blade :) Remember to use the code I gave in the video for a discount on the Garberg. Thanks for watching friend ! Mayor Fuglycool
i can say a few thing for the ones who do not know anything about knives. testing a knife includes 3 main points, sharpness, flexibility and durability. to test a knife people can choose different ways. for example somebody can use a machine to bend a knife 90 degrees, other one can stick it into a wood and can step on it. this is not discovery channel or etc, this is a youtube channel and this guy wants to produce something different and new. he can test durability or sharpness in many other way. actually i appreciate him and after this video i've decided to buy a garberg.
Moras have to be the best value in the knife market. They're inexpensive without having cut corners on quality. I have a few. The Scandi's are so good at carving.
In a world of cheap knock-off steels, and dishonest marketing, its really great that there is someone like you, who just gets the knife and tests it to destruction. You save us all a lot of hassle and mistakes. +1 sir.
I think you have put that knife through 2 life times of hard labor" And it still has not let you down. Cool vid' and a awesome knife ! Thanx for sharing
I was working at a scout camp last summer and a few leaders had this knife. Doesnt take too long to sharpen and holy cow it holds a great edge! I spent a long time stropping it just to get a perfect edge on it. One I really want to buy, even more now with your video!
Well, I am not actually "knife fighting." To be honest, it is just a handling portion, nothing more. I just like to get a good feel on what a blade is like in the hand. Thanks for watching friend :) Mayor Fuglycool
Scandi grinds are very different from saber grinds. Scandi grinds have no secondary bevel (or a 0-degree bevel) making it one of the-the most sharpest(or at least best wood carving)blades which are why you see Scandi grinds(preferably chisel grinds) on chisels.
A very fair test I'd say. Much better than a lot of other so called destruction tests. I'm a huge fan of mora and as painful as it might be to watch, testing like this really does show what a knife is capable of. I also like that it's not a test to ultimate failure but rather a series of tests to see if it is up to the standard. Might have been good to split the handle open to see what went on there at the end. Overall a great video.
Hi Mayor. Great video. Thinking of getting one of these. Really good to know that it passes so many of the stress tests so this is really useful. I agree with you regarding the blade length, a 5 to 6 inch blade would make the knife near perfect.
Not sure what you're trying to test... but they have the Heavy Duty MG as well, (not that any knives are made for cutting bricks :P) "Molle"=general purpose starter knife (not to say they're worse than other models, it's all about application).
14C28N is a horribly brittle steel in my experience. I've had several blades with that steel chip out on me just from cutting mild materials like hemp rope or vehicle carpet. I'll be buying the carbon version of the Garberg
Been cruisin' for the Garberg for a while. Now I see how the handle separated from the tang , I'm not so sure , especially with battoning over time. What say you ? Would it hold up over time you think ? Oh , nothing mean , but safety first means putting the gloves on first ,lol. !
If you batton with the Garberg, it will separate over time. I really don't recommend the Garberg as a battoning knife, as 4" of blade really does not give you much area to batton. I suggest a larger knife around 7"-12", full tang construction, as a battoning blade. Thanks for watching friend ! :) Mayor Fuglycool
oi mate, what about the handle and the possible blade breakage. you removed it and looked into it? i think thats a very interesting question to all possible customeres and the quality of the knife, so please get back to us in this.
The blade tang is intact, and the blade is not compromised. The handle plastic did "push" away from the metal tang, but it is so minute that it is not an issue in my eyes. Thanks for watching ! Mayor Fuglycool
Best knife test vid I’ve ever seen. Much better than the ten year old child unbox and review vids. The others talk and maybe cut up some shipping box or paper, but a brick !Mora should put you in the R and D department
Another great review. About time you got a new ammo can. I am thinking of getting one along with a brick and a concrete block to lend a bit of authenticity as I sit in my recliner practicing "not trying this at home."
Thanks Mayor, another interesting test. I like the fact that you do the same tests to EVERY knife regardless of size. It gives a good perspective to blade toughness. Are they all designed to chop? NO. Are they designed to puncture steel?? NO.. But if they can do that and come through you tests intact they can more than handle what they were designed for. Thank you
I guess the Garberg is a no go. I expected better but when I saw the blade chips, thats it. Another big problem for me is not having a guard. I have experienced knives “biting” me when there isn’t a guard.
It did hold up,,,and it has one good thing to back it up and that's the Mora name,,,even though I don't own eneny of them there reputation for be extremely sharp and useful with bush crafters and this test shows that the full tang version is a good one,I like 6" knife blades,,,but that Mora is tough to be so short,,,You put it through its paces and it came out okay,,,good test but I like the SRK,,,just a little bite more,,,Thanks for the testing and as always Take Care
nice video but you are wrong about the grind angle. the garberg has a 27 degree grind like the bushcraft black. a standard mora is ground at 23 degrees
Thanks ! I will check out the angle again, I may have had the blade in the sharpener incorrectly. Thanks for letting me know, and thanks for watching friend ! Mayor Fuglycool
MAYOR, I noticed that people use that 90 degree method for scraping, I tried a smaller angel and it scrapes wood and whatever fire steel you care to use much better. SAFETY FIRST MY FRIEND.
also, you may want to use a nice river rock to help the tool pass through an object , hit the back of the blade while blade is in contact with wood.use the same rock, about the size of an orange, to test all of the blades.SAFETY first my friends.
Safety first my friend. I believe that the use of a rock or a branch to help split wood is called battoning . thanks for all the Great videos.SFMF. I'll be back.
Knife 20 bucks, sheath 80! Not worth the price tag £100+ in uk. Shame because I love mora. Worth 60 max. Great test. Just found you and subbed. Have you done or would you test the Esee 6 to the same destruction? I will be watching your back catalogue now.
Scandi grinds are fragile on anything much harder than wood, so you'd expect the Garberg to roll and chip under these conditions. I'm sure it excels at most bushcraft tasks, and even at this higher price point it seems great value for money, but the laws of physics have to kick in at some point.
poor mora. everybody complained so they capitulated and gave us a full tang knife. however, it's stainless steel, and evidently, a little brittle. personally I have one of their carbon steel companions and it's a damned beat, the lack of full tang has in no way hurt its performance.
Hi, I wanted to know from your experience whether this 14C28N steel is really great as it is said for knives to use in nature? Is better than 440C or VG10? Let me know what you think, a greetings Michele
I have a question, now that I've bought one for about 100€ (I'm in europe): How comes none of the other reviews I've seen mention it's not a scandi grind, but a sabre grind? Discovering that has been a real letdown for me, as to me having a true scandi is really important...
I don't think it's a true scandi grind, looks and feels like a sabre grind. I am sure that Mora will warranty it if the grind is not as advertised. Thanks for watching ! Mayor Fuglycool
Zio Azalin Ah does yours have the sabre grind as well ? I am sorry to hear that. . . But it is still an excellent knife. Easier to sharpen in my eyes :) Mayor Fuglycool
you need to re anchor your playset, I mean, testing framework. I was slightly concerned during the pull up part that it was going to tip over. good review
Yes, the Jungle Jim is starting to fall ! I have been trying to repair it over the years, and the rain does not help LOL Thanks for watching, glad you love it ! Mayor Fuglycool
Guten Tag Major good video about the new mora ☺ comes at right time I am interested in this knive since a few weeks, and think about buying it. It would be my first scandi / swedish knive. thanks again that I now knows what "fuglycool" stands for 😉👍 best regards from south germany
Thanks for watching friend, and I am glad you liked the video ! It is pretty solid, but has some small problems in my eyes. Mora makes good knives for general use. :) I do speak some German :P Mayor Fuglycool
David Downs I agree with +shannonandsheila1 that choils thumb guards are pointless if you know what you're doing and have confidence in your ability to perform tasks with your tool.
Kaden Cook its just a great extra security measure, even if you know what you are doing, there are always chances of something going wrong. A good choil you can choke up and get finer cuts, and a good thumguard you can maintain more without chance of hand going on the blade.
Couldn't agree more. As a guy that uses his knife frequently in the mud or with greese covered oily hands a guard is a big improvement. Sure one can use a knife without but it's much safer with one.
The edge rolled and chipped because Scandi Grind knives only have a single bevel, which is already the cutting edge. That's why the geometry of it is so shallow and less impervious to your testing
David. I always find it funny how the haters react to the Mayor's content. They can't seem to grasp that the objective is not to see how much the knife can break and destroy. The objective is to see how much the knife can endure before breaking. Its an endurance test for the knife. Most knives that pass are some tough blades.
I'm like that too. Some are so funny that they're worth watching. You did see the video of the fat guy showing his 'Roman Gladius'? Will Keith I think is his name th-cam.com/video/sQIDa17Fw5E/w-d-xo.html The Fat Swerdsman.
Everyone is reporting that these have a small bevel on the blade rather than being a true scandi grind. You'd think that would have less of a tendency to roll the edge. My carbon steel moras never roll, so maybe it's the stainless.
+Agile Woodsman I dont know cause my mora robust pro and have get little imperfections just from normal use, every time I use them they need stropping. I have become a Gerber Prodigy & Strongarm fan, I've used mine to death and its been awesome ,USA 420hc and no problems at all.
try the test with the other moras that aren't full tag .start by pounding it into the wood . this mora isn't typical of moras because it has a full tag . they are good little kitchen knives
I do want to do more Mora tests, but the blades are short for the cinder and brick tests. Also, doing pullups on the 4" blades is actually dangerous. I will think about it ;) Mayor Fuglycool
+Mayor Fuglycool Awesome. Ive only had folding knives, but i am looking into my first fixed blade. Ill get the gerber strongarm or the ontario usn mk3. I considered the bear grylls knife, but i dont want a china made blade.
The bear grylls stuf isn't horrible like people say it is. When the line first came out it had problems, but now it's not bad. I do not like bear grylls as a person though
ontario also produces in china............ like most gerber knives too hahaha dude chinese knives often have a great quality. Look at Real Steel and Kizer
Hi I enjoy your tests, I've seen a lot of them but I am looking for one of my favourite knives the Tops Armageddon. Can you do a full test on that one some time? Thanks take care
Yeah thanks ! guntap has a sale on them right now, use the code that I gave in the video for a discount ! Thanks for watching friend :) Mayor Fuglycool
hey bud. would be of course very interesting to know, if the blade actually really broke. can you cut off the handles to see if a crack or break appeared?
It is not really their first full tang knife, "Frost Laplander 95" is still made by Morakniv though L115 was/is more similar to this one. morakniv.se/produkter/lapplander-95/ Morakniv is the result of a merger between the two last knife-making companies in Mora "Frost" and "KJ Eriksson" morakniv.se/om-morakniv/var-historia/. Garberg is/was the place where the people in the knife-making villages had their summer pastures/summer farms. On a summer farm one often had a "Fäbodkniv" with a special hat to keep it from falling out, since one was miles from anywhere one must not lose the knife in the woods, lie this modern Norwegian version dms03.dimu.org/image/02SVfQQosY or with a leather strap over the hilt and a protruding small knob (on the end of the rat tail tang/ of copper) with a corresponding hole in leather strap. Here is 150 pages of Norwegian knives, digital Museum Archives digitaltmuseum.no/search?name=Kniv&advanced_search=1, slightly different from the Swedish tradition but not by far...here the Swedish Digital Museum Archives "Knife" digitaltmuseum.se/search?query=Kniv
Well, I would rather put them through a harsh test, yet give the knife a chance to survive. It's a little more fair in my eyes, because a pure breaking test would be rather different in many viewers eyes. I think people would grow to hate me if I intentionally wanted them to break. :P Thanks for watching friend ! Mayor Fuglycool
I own 1 blade from Morakniv, and its the $10 blade that comes with plastic sheath. All I can say, its not a bad blade for the task I use it for at work.
Do you recondition the knives after you test them? If so, have you ever had one that just wouldn't come back to like new condition ( like it would not take a good edge again)?
Usually, thin edges chip, not roll over on quality knives. Heat treatment is pretty much the only factor to an edge rolling or chipping. Also, I have looked and felt the blade over quite a bit, and my model has a saber grind. . . IDK why, but that is what it is. I wish it was scandi, but this Garberg is definitely a saber grind. Thanks for watching friend ! :) Mayor Fuglycool
"The blade wobble is a big concern..." Seriously? You bounced on it after bashing concrete with it for like 20 minutes. I think your laugh after you said, "Trained professional" says a lot, we laughed after you said it too. How is the length a con? You know the length when you buy it, so if a 5" blade is not for you, then you shouldn't be dissapointed because you won't buy it anyways. *Shakes head at the logic being displayed here.*

Thanks friend ! Stay safe :)
Mayor Fuglycool
also, you may want to use a nice river rock to help the tool pass through an object , hit the back of the blade while blade is in contact with wood.use the same rock, about the size of an orange, to test all of the blades.SAFETY first my friends.
Cool idea, I will see if I can put it into the tests :)
Mayor Fuglycool
Safety first my friend. I believe that the use of a rock or a branch to help split wood is called battoning . thanks for all the Great videos.SFMF. I'll be back.
TPHVICTIMS
Semper Fi ! ;)
Mayor Fuglycool
Which kind of gloves are you using? Cool video! Thanks for doing it
You said it was more of a saber grind. Does that mean it does not have a true scandi?
To me it feels a lot like a saber grind, but many have commented that theirs are scandi. Thanks for watching friend !
Mayor Fuglycool
Knife 20 bucks, sheath 80! Not worth the price tag £100+ in uk. Shame because I love mora. Worth 60 max. Great test. Just found you and subbed. Have you done or would you test the Esee 6 to the same destruction? I will be watching your back catalogue now.
Thanks for subbing, and the Esse 6 is on the list !
Thanks for watching friend, and I hope you enjoy the tests ! :)
Mayor Fuglycool
Hi Mayor what one is stonger the garberg or srong arm, can you please answer this one , Thanks i advance
Strongarm in my OP, they are both good knives though.
Mayor Fuglycool
Mayor Fuglycool Thanks Mayor
Scandi grinds are fragile on anything much harder than wood, so you'd expect the Garberg to roll and chip under these conditions. I'm sure it excels at most bushcraft tasks, and even at this higher price point it seems great value for money, but the laws of physics have to kick in at some point.
Great video. It sucks you got cut though. I agree the knife needs a bit longer and if it had more texture on the handle it would have more grip too.
Yeah, it was unfortunate that I was cut, but it was not too bad. The thumb hurt more lol !
Thanks for watching Snake :)
Mayor Fuglycool
poor mora. everybody complained so they capitulated and gave us a full tang knife. however, it's stainless steel, and evidently, a little brittle. personally I have one of their carbon steel companions and it's a damned beat, the lack of full tang has in no way hurt its performance.
I use a Mora Robust in Carbon every day, it's a great blade !
Thanks for watching friend ! :)
Mayor Fuglycool
Hi, I wanted to know from your experience whether this 14C28N steel is really great as it is said for knives to use in nature? Is better than 440C or VG10? Let me know what you think, a greetings Michele
ahahahahahahaah!! "Don't make your fingers leak fluid" that is absolutely fucking hilarious...Another great vid nice work bro.. :-)
My fingers leaked ! NEEYAAAAGGHHH !
Thanks for watching brother ! :)

Mayor Fuglycool な
Mora knives are good, but Marttiini knives from Finland are great! I would like to see a comparison test between the two.
Can barely cut paper - "it's extremely sharp..."
is that a 50 cal ammo can or just a 5.56 ammo can?
I really enjoy your stress tests if they can pass these they can do anything lol Thank you sir and the Arnie impersonations are greatly appreciated.
Mayor Fuglycool
it is a sabre grind, but it's marketed as a scandi... It's been a letdown receiving it and seeing the secondary bevel.
Zio Azalin
Ah does yours have the sabre grind as well ?
I am sorry to hear that. . . But it is still an excellent knife. Easier to sharpen in my eyes :)
Mayor Fuglycool
yup, it's a sabre... easier to grind, but worse for wood working, which is the main purpose for which I bought it...
Zio Azalin
Yeah that's what I had suspected. :/
Mayor Fuglycool
you need to re anchor your playset, I mean, testing framework. I was slightly concerned during the pull up part that it was going to tip over. good review
Yes, the Jungle Jim is starting to fall ! I have been trying to repair it over the years, and the rain does not help LOL
Thanks for watching, glad you love it !
Mayor Fuglycool
Are the Morakniv Craftline any good?
Guten Tag Major
good video about the new mora ☺ comes at right time
I am interested in this knive since a few weeks, and think about buying it. It would be my first scandi / swedish knive.
thanks again that I now knows what "fuglycool" stands for 😉👍
best regards from south germany
hey major
do you speak german? ??
+Torsten H. Wiegeht
Thanks for watching friend, and I am glad you liked the video ! It is pretty solid, but has some small problems in my eyes. Mora makes good knives for general use. :)
I do speak some German :P
Mayor Fuglycool
i wish it had a thumbguard or at least a good choil.
shannonandsheila1
*facepalm*
Cobra Chicken You don't need a choil if the edge is already right up to the grip, with very small to no ricasso.
The edge rolled and chipped because Scandi Grind knives only have a single bevel, which is already the cutting edge. That's why the geometry of it is so shallow and less impervious to your testing
And who even chops 2×4s with a knife that small? Blade is too thin and short
SAKCollector it's not a Scandi grind
TheLedgend27 then what is it? Because it looks like one to me
SAKCollector 1 it's all an illusion
Judging by the comments, most folks just aren't getting this.
David. I always find it funny how the haters react to the Mayor's content. They can't seem to grasp that the objective is not to see how much the knife can break and destroy. The objective is to see how much the knife can endure before breaking. Its an endurance test for the knife. Most knives that pass are some tough blades.
damn right most dont get it...its a 6ft child with a beard playing with a knife he has no business handling
What real knife application corresponds to hitting cinder blocks and bricks ??? ridiculous !!
L Roz if it can take a beating it will take real work. Pretty simple, someone has to do it
Pull ups was fucking dumb tho
This guy is hilarious. He’s worth subscribing just to see all the ridiculous things he says. Love it
I'm like that too. Some are so funny that they're worth watching.
You did see the video of the fat guy showing his 'Roman Gladius'?
Will Keith I think is his name
th-cam.com/video/sQIDa17Fw5E/w-d-xo.html
The Fat Swerdsman.
i think the foolding edge is actually a scandi zero grind problem. have it with every scz knife.
When you do the pull up test, slip a kevlar glove over the blade as well as wearing one. Handle side isn't as much of a threat.
yes
It will be nice to see how you test the Aitor Commando knife.
Looks like a pretty cool survival knife ! I will have to check it out someday :)
Mayor Fuglycool
try the test with the other moras that aren't full tag .start by pounding it into the wood .
this mora isn't typical of moras because it has a full tag .
they are good little kitchen knives
I do want to do more Mora tests, but the blades are short for the cinder and brick tests. Also, doing pullups on the 4" blades is actually dangerous. I will think about it ;)
Mayor Fuglycool
The back end looks pretty healthy, I’m sure he’s said that in a different context many times
Kecy
taking a knife to a cinderblock earns you a thumbs up! your charisma earns you a comment! thanks for the video, Mayor Fuglycool
the warning sign means: let your baby read the safty instructions before you hand it a garberg!
Make sure it is wearing sunglasses when cutting paper.
8) Safety first my friend !
Mayor Fuglycool
+Mayor Fuglycool Awesome. Ive only had folding knives, but i am looking into my first fixed blade. Ill get the gerber strongarm or the ontario usn mk3. I considered the bear grylls knife, but i dont want a china made blade.
The bear grylls stuf isn't horrible like people say it is. When the line first came out it had problems, but now it's not bad. I do not like bear grylls as a person though
don't get a Gerber
+BlakeHopsFlame6 i have the strongarm and it is great. Cant beat it at the price point
ontario also produces in china............ like most gerber knives too hahaha dude chinese knives often have a great quality. Look at Real Steel and Kizer
Yeah, I have been trying to stay away from China made blades.
Thanks for watching friend :)
Mayor Fuglycool
Hi I enjoy your tests, I've seen a lot of them but I am looking for one of my favourite knives the Tops Armageddon. Can you do a full test on that one some time? Thanks take care
Dude your sarcasm is awesome! *Rips paper * it's extremely sharp! I'm subscribing. Even if you didn't mean the sarcasm.
Thanks for watching friend, and I am glad you loved the vid ! :)
Mayor Fuglycool
Do you want to try to batton that first brick with the garberg plzz,.. want to see what kind of damage it will take,..
Nice. Finally you test a knife I was actually considering buying already.
Yeah thanks ! guntap has a sale on them right now, use the code that I gave in the video for a discount !
Thanks for watching friend :)
Mayor Fuglycool
I own an old Volvo and few Moraknives 😁. Loved your test 😁. "One Volvo, two Volvos..."! 😂
Thanks for watching friend, glad you loved it :)
Mayor Fuglycool
hey bud. would be of course very interesting to know, if the blade actually really broke. can you cut off the handles to see if a crack or break appeared?
Here is 150 pages of Norwegian knives, digital Museum Archives digitaltmuseum.no/search?name=Kniv&advanced_search=1, slightly different from the Swedish tradition but not by far...here the Swedish Digital Museum Archives "Knife" digitaltmuseum.se/search?query=Kniv
let me guess. this is your first time using a knife, right?
dont you think you should test them til they fail or break
Well, I would rather put them through a harsh test, yet give the knife a chance to survive. It's a little more fair in my eyes, because a pure breaking test would be rather different in many viewers eyes. I think people would grow to hate me if I intentionally wanted them to break. :P
Thanks for watching friend !
Mayor Fuglycool
I own 1 blade from Morakniv, and its the $10 blade that comes with plastic sheath. All I can say, its not a bad blade for the task I use it for at work.
You really teast the knives and I like it! Thank s
Thanks friend ! :)
Mayor Fuglycool
Happy to see it survived, I'm gonna be nice to mine haha. No stabbing tests for me yet.
The Garberg should last ya a while :)
Mayor Fuglycool
I liked it and glad I purchase one and will be here tomor definitely will be breaking block and chopping some trees down with this thing
Do you recondition the knives after you test them? If so, have you ever had one that just wouldn't come back to like new condition ( like it would not take a good edge again)?
A 20 degree scandi is basically a saber lol... There's no secondary edge so it's not or ever going to be a saber
The edge rolled because it's a scandi which means it's a thin grind, the heat treat has nothing to do with it.
Mayor Fuglycool
"The blade wobble is a big concern..." Seriously? You bounced on it after bashing concrete with it for like 20 minutes. I think your laugh after you said, "Trained professional" says a lot, we laughed after you said it too. How is the length a con? You know the length when you buy it, so if a 5" blade is not for you, then you shouldn't be dissapointed because you won't buy it anyways. *Shakes head at the logic being displayed here.*
Sparks3D
The Garberg isn’t 5”.
