Don't worry hes a self proclaimed fan boy. Of himself. I've used mora for 30 years and Benchmade and others have failed where my mora didn't So ill use my mora and this tool can use his ego.
You shouldn't speak befor you already test for me is the best i tested with any Trunk and i am so happy so i have a lot mora knife and of them are excelent Quality y cost any body can get it
the one thing worse than mora fan boys, is the benchmade fan boys... they are 100% really great knives but they are so over priced these days that it really detracts from the appeal...
@gladeshunter8796 nah those brands aren't so common where I live, a few esee fans floating around but they're cheaper than benchmade and don't get as much hype...
Us bushcrafters catching strays out here. I've been a hunter and woodsman for decades and I absolutely use my knife in wood 90% of the time. Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. 🤣
I have knives that I spent $20.00 Australian on, and knives I’ve spent $700.00 on, in both instances I’ve been happy with the purchase and extremely unhappy, I always research before buying. I’m by no means wealthy, so disappointment in an expensive knife hurts more than an inexpensive one. All that being said a good functional knife is still good at any price. I’m a knife guy, not a fanboy. We can find fault in anything if we look hard enough.
Same here, South Aussie girl. I have a few different knives. two Glocks, M78 & M81. due to our lousy exchange rate they both cost just over $100. not complaining though, they're brilliant knives, and almost indestructible. I have a Mora, the little Eldris neck knife. great for what it is, and high quality. and I also have a few French Opinel folding knives. very cheap, but high quality. came to me very sharp out the box, and with a little light sharpening on my Japanese water stones, and then a good stropping, the high carbon steel blades are now crazy sharp. a very underrated knife. they cant baton, or do heavy work like that, but as an every day carry, general purpose knife, they are brilliant.
@peterbiltknifeguy that is the most insignificant difference you could point out. I would rather at least compare knives of a similar size blade. Besides those moras hold up just like they are people even baton with them even though it's a stupid thing to do.
I definitely do. I own 40 acres in a unincorporated area I’m the mountains that’s been in my family since the 1870’s. I’ve also owned and used more knives than 99% of people and base my opinion on this.
I have no respect for Benchmade knives. Have a a lot of them over the years and they have all failed way before they should have. Worst one was an automatic folder that cost me 250 bucks that broke within 2 weeks of ownership. I was in the Army and was about to deploy to Iraq. Used the knife to cut some flex cuffs off and it snapped like it was made out of glass. Called Benchmade and they gave me the middle finger. I can say with confidence that they are indeed overpriced and not anywhere near the quality they advertise. There's more than enough knife tests out there that show this with various models they have produced over the years. I wouldn't spend that much on a Mora either. 20 bucks for one is fine and they do ok. Spending 200 bucks on a Benchmade is just dumb, just like everyone is finding out about Tops now.
@peterbiltknifeguy He gives interesting data points, but I base my opinions on my own experiences, which aren't much different than JoeX I'm guessing? Haven't seen him test a Benchmade yet. I have 20+ years experience with Benchmade and was always disappointed in what I got for the money, and in 2007 was very disappointed in the customer service experience. They could have at least asked for the auto folder back to see what went wrong. It broke around the hole that the knife pivoted on. Sorry I hurt your feelings, but Benchmade ain't worth the money in my experience. Kershaws were and at the time were made in the USA.
Hurt my feelings??? 😂 not even close. You have 20 years. I have 22 years experience. Maybe you made poor choices in knives and expected too much from them 🤷🏻♂️ That hasn’t been the case for me. I edc benchmade every day. For many many years and multiple models. Has been my experience. Now with that being said. I own hundreds of knives. And many long before I started TH-cam a year ago. I currently only own 6 benchmade knives. So I’m far from an fanboy.
@peterbiltknifeguy Sure sound like a fanboy. I own exactly zero. My first Benchmade came in 1997, so I guess I've got you beat by a few years. Hard to pick b3nchmades then because they only had a few models. Bought my last two in 2007 before an Iraq deployment. That folder broke rather easily. Top tier tactical knife supposedly. How was that a poor choice? The other was that little fixed blade tac knife that I don't remember the model now. Never used it so I can't comment on performance. Gave it to one of my joes. I'm not the kind of person to randomly crap on a product. Is what it is. I'd expect my $100 folder to not fall apart after a year. That's in 90s money. Had several that ranged from 80-150 back then. Everyone talked them up, so I bought some to use. I didn't see anything special about them, kind of like some don't like the Moras. I don't have a Garberg, and probably won't buy one. I do have the companion heavy duty and it works ok. Hate the sheath, so it only goes in my pack to be used when needed. Some people love the heck out them. Meh, they're ok. I have not tried any Benchmades since 2007, but then would you with such a bad customer service representation? I just spent 250 bones on your "elite tactical" folder and it can't even handle cutting off a set of flex cuffs without snapping like a twig? I'll pass on Benchmade just for that reason. Cold steel did us up right for the deployment with a big box a freebies for the road. What's the difference? Quite a bit of money for pretty much equal performance. People are finding out the same thing about Tops. I think people buy these brands for the same reason people buy BMWs. Yeah they look cool and cost a lot, but bottom line they do the same thing as a toyota. And the toyota most likely will do it for a lot longer for a lot less. You spend your money how you want, I'll spend mine. I know I made poor choices in buying knives over the years, and it just so happens that Benchmade is on that list.
@@terrencemccargish442 6 benchmades out of hundreds of knives make me a fanboy 🤔. Ok. Now I see who I’m dealing with. First of. Nobody asked for your opinions. And if you feel the need to stuff your opinion dawn someones throat you need to look elsewhere. Maybe start your own TH-cam. That way you can do what I do when I say my opinion. Nobody asked or forced you to watch my videos. Time to move on 👍
I own the Garberg, Kansbol and Companion HD. For the money the Companion HD will perform as well as the Garberg. The Garberg will take some serious abuse though. I haven't been nice to mine at all after 4 years or so and its always held up. Definitely a reliable tank of a knife with decent edge retention and easy maintenance.
This was my first Mora knife when they first came out. It didn't seem so expensive because I didn't start off with a less expensive model and then upgrade. I wanted to see what all the hype was about. It's a decent knife but I still haven't really given it a good try and I'm not buying any more of these. I had a secondary bevel on one side only and other people complain about it.
I have taken my Mora Garberg to Afghanistan twice, Iraq once, Indonesia, Poland, Montenegro, and countless times fishing, camping, and hunting. It's been excellent. I definitely wouldn't consider myself a fan boy as I only own one. I can say without a doubt it's one of two knives I will always have accessible. The other is my Toor Overlord knife but I only use it during military operations. I'd respect the review if you didn't seem to be so strongly biased/had used it more/show your testing methodology.
I never understood the garberg, I mean for 2/3 of the price you can have a terävä jääkäripuukko 140 which is better in any ways, better steel, better sheath… I love my morakniv hd companion around my woodstove but a mora for 80+ bucks come on … I would definitely buy the Benchmade over the mora even if it was four times the price… Oh by the way I would love see your review of a terava skrama … Regards from France
I too love the terava jaakaripuukko 140. Robust, cost effective and extremely capable. Another vote for the Skrama 240. She is ugly but would be a top contender for a multi-scenario woodscraft/survival situation. And the multi-position handle just adds so much versatility. One of my top two budget big blades next to the kershaw camp 10!
So personally I like functional tools ,Milwaukee knives are a functional tool mora is a functional tool Buck is a functional tool,so at the end of the day,if you don’t get in to deep with cost, than if you lose it or break it,without sweat, they say people with brands have no brains 🧠
All you people that grew up watching survivor shows with delusions of concurring the world with you’re Mora’s...Just remember, there is a generation ahead of you that grew up watching Rambo!
Nice conte t! I agree with your take on the garberg. Have you tried the Hultafors OK4 or the Terava Jaakaripuukko? I have all three knives and for my personal use and use I prefer both to the garberg.
I got my Morakniv Garberg (14C28N version) several years ago and even then, it was expensive for me. Although I like it, I wouldn't buy it again. I think your thoughts are spot on, btw. 👍Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!
@@peterbiltknifeguy Stainless for me. These steels have similar properties like holding edge and easiness of sharpness. Biggest difference one is stainless, another not. Ok, carbon version cuts more aggresively. PS. Perfect version for me would be 14C28N with black coating.
I have been using a bushcraft black for about 7 years or so I love the garberg looks but I just think I would be buying the same blade as the black just full tang. I think I’ll just keep the black. I would like that benchmade pukko I think you showed
all scandic companies source the recycled steel from the same factory...mora fiskars gränsfors hultafors finnish brands etc its because they are going green its high quality steel..its not random cocktails of steel from as shop floor...i think mora garberg is overpriced...but the steel in in question is good quality...there is a going green hysteria in the scandinavian countries so saying recycled sells more knives then stating the steel type...not like the typical offfice weekend warrior will know what a steel type means anyway.
My favorite Mora knives are the old laminated carbon steel blades----sharpest blades I've ever used, by far. Really great for wood carving, but they've gotten expensive and hard to find. I got a few as bare blades and made my own knives with them, and I really enjoy using them, but if you want to buy one now as a complete knife, you can only get the smaller ones with the old-fashioned barrel-shaped wood handles.
I am from Sweden and own many Mora knives. I have Garberg but not with carbon steel. I think it's a decent knife that has never let me down. Then whether it is worth 100 dollars is negotiable? You get a good Eafengrow knife plus some money to spare. I have the usual mora with the cheaper sandviken steel in every fishing box and bag. It doesn't matter if you carelessly throw away a knife like that for 8-10 dollars. Then break in some things that are not made of trees. Then you don't cry blood from deep scratches, big cuts in the blade right away. The Mora Robust Stanlines is a good knife to beat up and for the price it costs it is hard to beat under $10 here if you count in the US. Don't do anything if you are careless or forget the knife wet so it has rust spots a few months later. In that way, I am a Mora Fan Boy for sure. Mora Garberg I don't know? There are many good alternatives in the same price class or that are better than Garberg in my opinion. Same with Fällkniven, which is even more expensive. There are clearly better knives for half the price. I dropped my Fällkniven F1 in the woods while I was hunting. Then I wasn't happy at all. Like dropping a couple of hundred dollars that it costs is no fun at all. I liked that knife very much. Was good at most things except the price. Expensive knife but a good knife. Affordable is negotiable?
I think the recycled steel is their stainless steel. The material of the handle is getting used to but isn't grippy enough, I would like a slightly bigger finger guard bcs of this, the carbon blade itself is great quality imo. The plastic sheath should be a little higher at the handle, since the added weight of being full tang. I also believe that the price has also increased slightly for their products since they had a change in leadership in Mora.
Mora fanboys are the vegans of the knife world. You can’t watch a knife review without at least one of them telling you their mora is better and if you say something against them they’ll get upset.
The Mora Garberg black carbon version is the definition of the perfect bushcraft knife ! No need spend big bucks. This. Gem will handle all of your bushcraft needs. Morakniv has a satisfying great product line . Very affordable,,probably going to bu
Yeah I'd agree and although mine came not so sharp as well it stropped up very easily in no time. The trick is not to strop it as a true Scandi grind, cause it isn't. I don't feel all precious about it and as here in the UK it's not a great idea to keep a knife on your belt, even (probably especially so) in an isolated forest. I can just put it in my bag, it takes up hardly any space and the shape of the sheath means I can squeeze it in somewhere or other. It throws great sparks. Even though yes I'll generally use a lighter first to get a fire going because I can, it's easy and fast, but it's also nice to know I'll get a few thousand fires out of a firesteel with it if my lighter gets wet, the flint pings out, and 100 other possibilities. It's an option and one worth having. The blade is strong as a blade ever needs to be unless you start using it like a moron and I've used it for a lot more than just processing wood. Yes there are mora 'fanboys', just like there are benchmade 'fanboys' and most benchmade guys and esee guys tend to live stateside where 'made in the USA' means this magic stamp of approval. To me personally and I'd guess to everyone outside the USA 'made in the USA' doesn't mean anything more than that. TRC who probably make the best thought-out, made and finished knives are in Lithuania... so being made in the USA only means something if you just want to.buy American. But I've found most of my most trusted gear, like fjallraven and mora and light my fire etc are usually Swedish. I'd also imagine a garberg will out live that benchmade. But time will tell. My carbon garberg cost £69 and I definitely can't complain at that. €80 is even less.
@peterbiltknifeguy ahh, but that was just my first impression. I didn't say it was the right one. (Yeah that'll do, you might not look semi-literate now uhum).
I went to BladeHQ today to see what the current best sellers are under “All Knives”. The first page no longer had a Benchmade...that’s new. #1 Best seller...Boker Wiener (Hot Dog) Warrior...Followed by #2 Morakniv Dessert (Donut) Warrior Clipper...What!!!
I like the Mora Companion and their other less expensive models but their higher end models like the Gaeberg and Kransbol are not close to being worth the price. I have never paid more than $15.00 for a Mora and I never will. Anyone that does has been blinded by the light. The Companion and Craft series are great budget options that are solid performers for the money. As for the higher end models, there are much better knives out there for the same and even half the price. Everybody likes a good solid budget option but don't get suckered into paying for the name. All Moras are basically the same design with different steels and different sizes. I like the Eldris but I'm not paying $40/$50 for what is basically half a companion. I believe in buying a knife based on it's true worth, no matter what brand it is. Just like Cold Steel, they have some excellent budget options then they have wuite a few ridiculously overpriced models that are no better than their budget line up, every brand does. I am not brand loyal, I buy based on quality and performance, as well as price, no matter the brand.
I love me a Moragarberg, but I'm just curious as to why you would get that version as opposed to the normal stainless one. That was the first bushcraft knife I bought and for the price it's fantastic it's a beast and was razor sharp. But I'm not going to say it's every bit as good as some of the higher end options. But for the price they are great for what they do.
Not to forget the Hultafors knives. I have a Hultafors OK1, too. It's really a good, cheap and safe knife, the handle is great. Even with wet and cold hands in wintertime i was able to do everything with it. It's carbon steel, but with a coating and i had never ever had any issues with rust. If i should choose "the" one blade, i think i would take the OK1. Or maybe one of my Eickhorns, but they are much more expensive.
Mora is a great brand, I personally don't own any of their products, but a product that is produced with quality in a country where people have a high standard of living at that price is great!! Personally, I would choose the victorionox venture model, and if I want something more robust, the teravajakaripuko 140, which I own
I mostly agree. Mora are good for cheap stuff. They now have this ash handled range that goes over 150€. I've looked at them when in Mora last summer, but nothing justifies the price. I got a Kansbol (50€ range) for camping, food prep, even did some batoning to get smaller wood blocks to start the fire. It works fine, but it needed resharpening quite often during our 3 week trip. If it was mandatory to spend 150+ €, I would certainly prefer the benchmade over any Mora.
Fan boys are obnoxious. And of course Mora’s are “good enough” budget knives. But listening to you critique the handle while the BM Puukko is sitting there is too much.
I never bought a Garberg because I thought it was too expensive. Then I bought one for 20 bucks, brand new. Dala red, handle and sheath. Stainless. I then found the same knife going for 17 bucks, in stainless and carbon. I ordered 4 of each. I don't want to ruin my source, but it's on the website and app that says "shop like a billionaire". My 8 Garbergs will soon be for sale on E-bay.` I have the Kansbol, too, but can't decide which is best. My Garberg hasn't had enough testing to make a choice.
I was never a mora fan boy but I managed to pick up a stainless Mora Garberg really cheap around £37.00, I can say after stropping the life out of it I absolutely love it, to be honest if I would have paid £60 I wouldn't have been disappointed. My view is that it's pointless having a go at people's knife choice as it's down to the individual what works for them. I find you can purchase a knife because of another's recommendation and find it doesn't work for you but does it make it a bad knife, no not really. I know a couple of people with the bench made puukko and they all love it, I know someone else who got one and wasn't very impressed. As I say everyone is different it's about what works for you and of course what you are using your knife for. I've been trying out a the Za Pas ultra outdoor knife for the last 4 months and it's an excellent camp knife, I have to say I've been impressed with it.
A big thing when it comes to knives is personal preference, and personal experience. Obviously there are objectively bad knives out there, but if someone prefers a mora over a benchmade they are well within their right. If someone prefers a benchmade over a mora that’s well within their right. Neither of them may be better then the other over all, but because someone has experience with one means it’s the knife they prefer. People’s tastes and needs vary.
Cool. But when I show a knife without even mentioning a mora they feel the need to put their two cents in and either tell me to get a mora (like I don’t already have 10) or the mora is better. Nobody asked their opinion. If they want to make their opinion known. They can start a TH-cam channel. Like I did
@@peterbiltknifeguy He is testing 5 knives that could be considered competitors of The Garberg, including The Jaakaripuuko. As I am not a TH-camr so I don't know the details of how these things work, but maybe if you hit him up y'all could work out a trade for review purposes.
Mora doesn't make knives for display cases, but for any job that needs a good smaller knife. With Swedish steel craftsmanship. Don't look for artistic beauty in a Mora, because a Mora is purely functional and nothing more. But if you need a durable and reliable handy little knife for pennies, look no further, because you won't find a better and cheaper knife than a Mora! The Garberg is just a more expensive model, but the Companion or Robust are very cheap and very good if you're not up against a herd of crocodiles. ...but maybe even then! Not even a crocodile will deform it! It's sure! I have a Robust Carbon and I love it! I keep it with me all the time. Mora makes more expensive ones, but the cheapest knives are just as good quality as the expensive ones. I have nicer knives, but hardly better. Robust will always be in my backpack!
I think the Kansbol is the best Mora . The Garberg is overpriced for what it is . I love my Mora’s for woodcraft but that’s about all they’re good for . My Esee’s and Benchmade’s put in the work for game prep and most other tasks .
That mora is 60 bucks on Amazon but I'd go with the Spyderco "Bow River" which is only 49, if I was buying a knife for the woods. Only I already have a Spyderco Southfork so I'm not needing. Another favorite I have is the Doug Ritter RSK MK3 and also Cabelas Alaskan Guide series Vanguard with the rubber handle, I also have a Spyderco Sprig so I'm in good shape.😁
@@peterbiltknifeguy I just bought the MOLLE carbon version for $65 without tax on amazon, everyone says the knife is not good for the price, but I got it for a good price, not seeing anything in the same range that looks as good for around $60-70
Love your channel i have the garberg don't use it much. Now to upset you it's my pleasure watch the film were they take the big silver birch tree down with the garberg if you tried that with the 110 your new Love the benchmade or the f1 you would just have metal left one is a survival knife the other 3 are not
My first proper knife was companion, but garberg was not appealing to me for the price they offered. All because it was full tang. If you are destroying companion you're gonna break other knives coz you're doing something wrong. I really like the blade profile of the benchmade. Do they come in longer blade?
You just got to have a Mora for each day of the week to be happy....LOL....Oh well can't love em all as like you say they are a great back up knife and no worries if it gets lost due to the low cost and of course I am speaking of the $10-$15 knives they sell...Good vid....Good stuff....
Not everyone thinks the scandi grind is the best thing ever. It sucks for anything but carving wood. The benchmades grind will carve wood just fine, and do other stuff way better.
@@peterbiltknifeguy fair enough if you've got your heart set on a particular steel, but I'd be hard pressed to pick a knife where the steel choice mattered less than the BM Puuko with a blade that short. For its size and geometry you could get away with any number of steels and see almost no difference in performance. As Larrin Thomas of knifesteelnerds says, geometry is really the most important factor when it comes to performance and edge retention, and that shape is just so good it would work with almost anything. Still a gorgeous knife I wouldn't turn down if someone offered it to me, it just seems like an odd choice if I was specifically looking for a Puuko.
@whiskey-q4z Don't hate Mora. Don't like them very much either, though. The Terava Jaakaripuuko and/or Skrama outclass them by MILES! They trade on their name and reputation. Much LIKE Benchmade, actually, except Benchmade stays putting out new designs, pushing the whole industry forward, then they just overcharge you by 33-50%. When's the last time Mora did anything of note? Released more than 1 design in a year? (Design, not color) For that matter, a new design? If I want a cheap throwaway knife, Wally World still has $3-5 ones.
I wouldnt call myself a fanboy but I own a few mora companions. some HD and some regular. They are great little inexpensive knives to have scattered around the house and in the car. Ive even got one on the desk that I use as a letter opener lol. Ive also got the Garberg and while I like it, I think what they should have done is just make a companion HD with a full tang.. Or if they are going down the full tang road.. make the Garberg a couple of inches longer. and a little less expensive. That brings me to my latest knife.... Terava Jaakaripuukko 140
I guess one can allow oneself greater subjective discernment when budgets and/or frugality don't play as much of a part in the purchase. I own the bushcraft black among many moras and assorted other brands seen as less 'premium' and, well, I quite like it. As in the eye of the beholder, I suppose such is also in the hand of the wielder...
Thanks to fanboys these retail for the equivalent of US $130 here in Australia where they are very popular. I ended up buying a similar size and shape from China for $40 in DC53 and its damned near indestructible. All product fanboys are the worst, there's no talking to them.
I bought a Dala Red edition last year. I was severely disappointed that, although it has the exact same handle design as the Kansbol, is doesn’t have the TPE rubber on the handle material for grip and traction like the kansbol and my bushcraft black (which is still my favorite mora design…wish they’d make that knife in a full tang.) That hard plastic in the Garberg handle just feels really cheap and makes the knife handle unnecessarily slick given the lack of a better guard. It was a major turnoff for me.
Mora hum ... its a light easy to sharpen knife for doing small tasks skinning animals light bushcraft cutting potatoes its not gonna hurt your feelings if you lose it for 80$ bucks ill spend a little more and get something better
Definitely not worth the upgrade in price, just need the cheap ones with a forced patina. lol I like that kind of complaining comment, your crying about a hate purchase! Priceless and you then called the mora guys retarded 🤔 It’s definitely overpriced for what it is just like the Benchmade and yeah sheath is hot garbage. I’d recommend a small custom maker once you’re getting into that price range. Support the small guy and local. Thx for sharing and can’t wait to see what’s coming.
For me, it's just hard to trust American made. I have had two LM's breake on me, one wave, one ps4, and then one cold steel american lawman. I own many knifes, and those are the only one that have failed me - except one victorinox that I abused to death. Never had a Mora break on me, no mather how hard I have beaten it in the woods. Just my experience.
I have almost all of the Mora knives. The companions I have only in the carbon, I had the stainless but I gifted all of them. With the exception of the Mora carving knives the Garberg is my favorite. I have used the hell out of the stainless but I feel the carbon Garberg is best for me. These are good blades regardless of the knife politics.
My thing is I love the handle geometry I just wish I had a little bit more of a guard to protect my hand if it oversliped my favorite Mora is the Tie between the Bushcraft black and the forest one
@@peterbiltknifeguy check out the Kansbol, same shape as the Garberg but with the regular Mora partial tang. Good value for the money, even if you have other tastes. I prefer to carry my Fallkniven and Bark River knives, but you can't beat the value of Moras when you want to toss a 10 dollar knife in a tackle box or glove compartment and forget about it until you need it.
Hello my dude. Thank you for the provided content from you, I really enjoy your videos and shorts. I wanted to express my opinion on this video, because you seem somehow attacked by some people's opinions on a question you asked in a short, and from what I can see, you got affected by it. From my point of view, as you stated in this video, people buy moras as a "throwaway" knife, or as a reliable cheapie you can throw in your bag and not spill tears when you lose or abuse to the point to which it is unusable. Based on that, I do not understand why you would buy a 80 dollar Mora just to shit on it, when even you know this steers from the budget knife argument 😂 Also, another point of view is that alot of people cannot afford or do not want to buy a 100 USD plus knife, which essentially is a Mora which is more robust, and you sharpen it less frequently. Sometimes it's hard to argue about a price of a knife, when you take it as a hobby, when most of the people which watch your channel might not, and they might see a knife not based on the value including the design, handle, sheath, brand reputation etc. Most would be like 5 inch knife, carbon steel(its hard!) And a plastic rubberised handle 20 bucks vs 100 bucks, ehich would you choose?😂 Anyway, this is the argument I had. Did not mean anything hateful towards you or your content, please keep making videos and destroying toilet rolls c: and have a nice rest of your day!🔪🔪
I can't stand these knives. I've had several. That knife right there and all other "true scandi's" tips always break like the first 1 mil or so. They can hardly do anything a good pocket knife will do. They suck at fool prep. They suck at chopping (like can't do it at all type of suck). The edges ALWAYS chip or fold over. They suck for sharpening. You have to remove the whole surface of the ground flats on both sides to get a chip out, if you want to keep your "true scandi grind". Their sheaths suck horribly. They are usually so deep stuck in the sheath they are a pain to get out and you have to readjust your grip a lot to get an actual cutting grip. Some of these have worthless, slick, round, wood broom handle type handles. They swell in the middle and angle Towards the blade, with no protection. Freeking genius. Also with those worthless handles it's hard to impossible to tell where the edge is when you're doing something in the dark or inside or under something. Not only that but those handles or sliiiick. For as much as someone pays for that freeking Garberg right there it should have came sharp. Not only that the position of the lanyard hole is absolutely stupid. Over an inch into the handle 🤦. Anyway when someone uses one of these versus almost any other outdoor knife they'll see just how dumb these knives are. I was an admirer of these blades like 25 years ago because Mors Kochanski used one. I got into knives more. Got others. Started using them outdoors more and started to realize how weak, limited and worthless these mora/scandi knives really are. I have one left, I can't really even give away. The tip is broke, chips in the edge and the original sheath is gone and busted up because it was so cheap. I made 2 leather sheaths for it and I still no one will take it. Anyway you are definitely not the only one who doesn't really like these blades. I only know of one person out of many, many knife guys I know that actually prefer one of these blades.
Didn't get on the Garberg bus when it came out and probably never will. Went for an Enzo Trapper in a flat grind which cost less than the Garberg at the time, micarta handle, N690c blade (there were only stainless Garbergs at the time), a good leather sheath and it came sharp. Never regretted that decision for a second. Do like the Mora 2000s though, the handle is much more like your Benchmade and it's a good all rounder. It's about personal preference and what you do with it though isn't it, not about telling others what their preference should be.
If one was looking to buy a camp knife for the first time, and were not sure if camping is something that you would continue, a Mora is a good choice. But for me, as an instructor it's a knife from either ESEE or Survive! Knives.
Personally I don't understand why anyone would buy the Garberg instead of the Bushcraft Black in carbon steel of course but the handle, sheath attachment and especially the price is better. Sure the sheath is still plastic but it won't go all willy-nilly and fall off your belt when sitting. The only thing that I am missing on the Bushcraft Black is a lanyard hole, but I solved it temporarily with a lil bit of duct tape and plan to make a more permanent solution in the future. But as many others have said, initial impressions don't carry any real weight nor value, to get a real feel for ANY knife you have gotta use it either daily for 3 months or every weekend for 6-8 months. And as for bushcrafting, I try and go out in the woods as often as I can and I don't hunt nor currently fish. So what I do is actually bushcrafting.. Tbf that statement was kinda unnecessary really.
Mora knives are soulless, industrial with plastic handles, yes it does the job but it stops there, it will never be worth Benchmade, Tops, Lionsteel... It's like cars, a Toyota Corolla will take you wherever you want, a Dodge Challenger SRT will do the same thing but with added pleasure! 👍👍
You know; I have always wondered why it is that Bushcrafters Insist on a scandi grind. As you said, a scandi is SO limited in what you can do with it - it may well be excellent when it comes to wood-carving, but that's it. On top of this, a scandi is SO much harder to sharpen in-the-field. I imagine that bushcrafters sharpen their knives at home, on a full-sized wet stone held securely in a bench-vice, but sharpening it in the woods with a small hand-held stone... and keeping the original scandi profile, is almost impossible. And the Garberg comes with a secondary bevel? What's the point in that?!! Give me a hollow or full-flat grind Any day.
I think the Swedish are the best markers in the world. When you think of Sweden what comes to mind? You’re Swiss bank account maybe? Skiing the Swiss Alps with a beautiful blonde? Just look at how they have marketed their old school traditions like the Axe. Made just like most places did it a 100 year’s ago, yet they have made people believe there the best in the world today. Then you have Mora trying to play the same game with kinda traditional recycled blades and plastic?
I went back and watched the shorts and you said: "does being stupid hurt, because other than cheapness I see no reason to chose the mora over the benchmade" that implies that people who would rather have a mora is stupid just because you only see one reason to buy mora instead. let me give you some reasons why i would rather have the mora. Scandi-grind has been used for a long time in Scandinavia where wood is/was a very important aspect of peoples lives and its simply what i prefer, the blade stock is thinner which i also prefer in a knife of that size. plastic sheath is much more durable and weather resistant. those are 3 valid reasons. I understand that you get a lot of emotionally charged comments from "mora fanboys" who are probably just immature people and not mora fanboys, because there are mora fans who are not keyboard warriors who needs sharp spine and lose their knifes all the time. Yeah i just spent 10 minutes writing this comment because i have way to much time on my hands, anyways just tried to give my observation on this situation, i wrote this with no hard feelings or anger and hope it doesn't come across that way. Have a great day :)

But... Comparing a 3V knife with Mora Companinon? I have to check that video since the people saying I'd rather have ten Mora are wrong. A quick check I did just now tells me I get at least 15 Mora Companion for the price of a Benchmade Puuko. So why are they compared at all? The Garberg is a bit more Expesive but I can still buy two of those for the price of one Benchmade. You are also comparing CPM3V with Sandvik 14C28N (Garberg). What ARE You comparing really?
The stainless steel version of the Mora Garberg was my first "expensive" knife, gained a lot of skill using one, was a pain in the ass as it came in the mail blunt... forced my sharpening practice😂
Well I would also prefer the mora companion vs that benchmade puukko. I bought 3 and chuck them in the glove box of each of my car, and 1 in my camping bag as spare knives. If they get stolen or lost, then it won't hurt that much. They are cheap but will perform as much as the much as the expensive knives out there. As for the sparks, you need to grind the spine of the blade to make it 90 deg and it will make good spark, still a very cheap mod.
With all respect, before reviewing a knife, go out and test it for at least 6 months, then review it. Greetings from Sweden!

A Garberg is more of a thinking man's knife. More for people who utilize finesse and technique over brute force and collateral damage.

You must be a Joex fan

If you could only take to depend your life on you know you're taking the garberg
I'd respect the review if you didn't seem to be so strongly biased/had used it more/show your testing methodology.

all scandic companies source the recycled steel from the same factory...mora fiskars gränsfors hultafors finnish brands etc its because they are going green its high quality steel..its not random cocktails of steel from as shop floor...i think mora garberg is overpriced...but the steel in in question is good quality...there is a going green hysteria in the scandinavian countries so saying recycled sells more knives then stating the steel type...not like the typical offfice weekend warrior will know what a steel type means anyway.
Go green all they want. If it’s high quality recycled steel why not say recycled 1095? Recycled 14c28n??? It’s not transparent and fishy to me
My favorite Mora knives are the old laminated carbon steel blades----sharpest blades I've ever used, by far.
The only thing worse than Mora are the Mora fanbois. Ugh I literally hate them.

Wouldn't it be better to use it first?

Obviously there are objectively bad knives out there, but if someone prefers a mora over a benchmade they are well within their right. If someone prefers a benchmade over a mora that’s well within their right.
It’s not. The ss one is. I bought it on Amazon. With tax 74.54
I've seen the Bow River from $40-49. Great tackle box knife, unless your wife swipes it.
@@DavidNefelimSlayerlol wife swipes it😂😂
@@peterbiltknifeguy I just bought the MOLLE carbon version for $65 without tax on amazon, everyone says the knife is not good for the price, but I got it for a good price, not seeing anything in the same range that looks as good for around $60-70
Love your channel i have the garberg don't use it much. Now to upset you it's my pleasure watch the film were they take the big silver birch tree down with the garberg if you tried that with the 110 your new Love the benchmade or the f1 you would just have metal left one is a survival knife the other 3 are not
Well, they are a low cost point knife.
Some of their models are definitely better than others.
I don't mind having an ok cheap knife to beat up on
My first proper knife was companion, but garberg was not appealing to me for the price they offered. All because it was full tang. If you are destroying companion you're gonna break other knives coz you're doing something wrong. I really like the blade profile of the benchmade. Do they come in longer blade?
It does. It’s the model 202
You just got to have a Mora for each day of the week to be happy....LOL....Oh well can't love em all as like you say they are a great back up knife and no worries if it gets lost due to the low cost and of course I am speaking of the $10-$15 knives they sell...Good vid....Good stuff....
They are about a Big Mac a day in cost lol
@@peterbiltknifeguy 🤣🤣👍👍🔥🔥
I prefer the Benchmade, but I have to question why you'd get that instead of a traditional Scandinavian brand if you wanted a Puuko.
Because it’s 3v
Not everyone thinks the scandi grind is the best thing ever. It sucks for anything but carving wood.
The benchmades grind will carve wood just fine, and do other stuff way better.
@@SwampOperator Scandinavian maker, not scandinavian grind 😂
I would buy Eafengrow if I had to pay $80 for MORA.
I love Eafengrow
@@peterbiltknifeguy Me too!
Not gonna lie, if Benchmade drops a Puuko in 3V that's Blacked Out, I am going to overspend my little heart out! F Mora.
😂😂😂👍
@whiskey-q4z oh snap. We have a keyboard warrior here 🤣👍
@whiskey-q4z Don't hate Mora.
I would buy the benchmade and convex it
I wouldnt call myself a fanboy but I own a few mora companions. some HD and some regular.
Btw stainless steel version strike a rod like a charm. :)
Hilarious video! It is pretty funny how many people on TH-cam purport to be bushcrafters.
Mora is a great stocking stuffer for someone else. The Garberg a slip of the tongue and you've made garbage, I believe is UHB-20C carbon steel.
You are correct. It’s comparable to 1095 I believe
I've heard of C100, which is pretty the same to 1095 or UHB-20C. Low abrasive wear resistance, good toughness.
Well said
Thanks to fanboys these retail for the equivalent of US $130 here in Australia where they are very popular.
Mora is okay nothing special about them at all I just have companions because and I tend to just give em away
I have. Twice. But it was abuse
I was thinking about the bushcraft black. But this one was more attractive to me
@@peterbiltknifeguy my only gripe about the Bushcraft black is that little bump on the handle my hands are big and it kind of makes a hotspot
Based on that, I do not understand why you would buy a 80 dollar Mora just to shit on it, when even you know this steers from the budget knife argument 😂
Also, another point of view is that alot of people cannot afford or do not want to buy a 100 USD plus knife, which essentially is a Mora which is more robust, and you sharpen it less frequently.
Sometimes it's hard to argue about a price of a knife, when you take it as a hobby, when most of the people which watch your channel might not, and they might see a knife not based on the value including the design, handle, sheath, brand reputation etc.
Most would be like 5 inch knife, carbon steel(its hard!) And a plastic rubberised handle 20 bucks vs 100 bucks, ehich would you choose?😂
Anyway, this is the argument I had.
Did not mean anything hateful towards you or your content, please keep making videos and destroying toilet rolls c: and have a nice rest of your day!🔪🔪
That’s a mouthful to respond to lol. I bought it because I had a gift card. It only cost me 15 bucks.
@@peterbiltknifeguy Sorry i got caught up. Good purchase.
Well nobody else will say it. Might as well be me lol
@@peterbiltknifeguy sure thing, take it away 👊👍

Didn't get on the Garberg bus when it came out and probably never will. Went for an Enzo Trapper in a flat grind which cost less than the Garberg at the time, micarta handle, N690c blade (there were only stainless Garbergs at the time), a good leather sheath and it came sharp. Never regretted that decision for a second. Do like the Mora 2000s though, the handle is much more like your Benchmade and it's a good all rounder. It's about personal preference and what you do with it though isn't it, not about telling others what their preference should be.
I like my Mora Garberg carbon but it's no Benchmade.
Recycled tin is what i believe is what they're made with....Companion HD is a good beater knife for the $.
I like mora a lot but have never spent more than 40$ for one
I think hot chocolate lol
See what I mean! Now I have to go make me a Swiss Miss...lol
@@dlrmon1 😂 can I have some please lol
What does Swiss bank accounts have to do with Sweden? Switzerland and Sweden are two different countries, dude.
I stand “Corrected”...

The Mora Garberg is a great knife, I like and use my carbon one all the time while outdoors. It doesnt beat a Tops: B.O.B but still enjoyable.
Be nice if it was a flat grind version
I bought my Garberg about 6 years ago, it’s still as new as the day I got it. I haven’t used it once. There are just better knives to use.
Lol. It’ll never wear out
99% of my Moras are unused. I use a HD Companion and haven’t needed any others. I have over 30 Moras.😂
You should try the ridiculously expensive wooden handled Mora, you’ll really hate it 😅.
The stainless steel version of the Mora Garberg was my first "expensive" knife, gained a lot of skill using one, was a pain in the ass as it came in the mail blunt... forced my sharpening practice😂
Bushcraft Black is still the best Mora
PBKG finally caves in to the Mor-ans! 😂
I love your fight with Mora fans
Lol. And buck fans too
sweet thanks for sharing brother
Well I would also prefer the mora companion vs that benchmade puukko. I bought 3 and chuck them in the glove box of each of my car, and 1 in my camping bag as spare knives. If they get stolen or lost, then it won't hurt that much. They are cheap but will perform as much as the much as the expensive knives out there. As for the sparks, you need to grind the spine of the blade to make it 90 deg and it will make good spark, still a very cheap mod.
