I helped build Carowinds. Interesting trivia. At that time N Carolina had touch tone phones, but the Rock Hill Telephone Co in S Carolina was still rotary dial! The wiring met at a box on the state line. And it took some work to get them talking to each other. And there was a VIP lounge over the entrance turnstiles. One night Wachovia Bank, who helped Pat Hall finance the park was having a private party after hours. The steam train was running and the director of security was driving the depts brand new van. The train managed to collide with the van at a crossing on the service road. No injuries except to egos! Working management at a park is always interesting! Later I worked at the Marriott parks also.
Me too. Most of the coasters there are pretty intense now. The Goldrusher is my favorite. I also miss the waterlog flume ride. I once stood in line over an hour to get on it.
Just read that Carowinds shutdown the "Fury 325" rollercoaster today due to cracks found in the metal track structure. It worries me the force that some of these new rides generate and I immediately think of carbon fiber submersibles going to the Titanic. Either going 2 miles down, 29,000 feet up on Everest or defying gravity on a metal track, it's all a matter of risk and liability. Your life depends on whomever is maintaining these machines you use.
I took my Daughters to Carowinds when they were younger. I rode the wooden roller coaster which got stuck ascending 1st grade after starting. It's a really nice amusement park. We grew up loving Kennywood best. Have a nice weekend Jacob!
Woo! This used to be our home park. I think this will be the first year in a long time we aren't planning to go. We're changing it up and going to Dollywood, Universal Orlando, Six Flags Atlanta, and Kings Dominion this summer/fall instead. Thanks for the vid!
That looks like a fun park. And what a unique idea of a park on two states' border! Congrats on four days of amusement parks in a row...I would probably hurl or worse myself! Have a great week ahead Jacob.
I used to be a live shows performer at Carowinds during the Kings Productions/Taft Broadcasting days of the park. It hurts me to see what the park has become over the decades since it opened in 1973. All original theming has been stripped.... it now reminds me of a conglomeration of tacky fair rides, lots of hot asphalt and quite a 'blah' atmosphere. So glad I was part of the entertainment back in the original heyday of the venue. Great video work though.
Hey Jacob! IF you come to Broome County, NY, They have a Carosel loop you can do consisting of many public carosels in Parks and even a zoo! Some are even free to ride!
Hi Jacob! Saw that you're at Carowinds, brought back such good memories. We lived in Greensboro for 15 yrs and knew Carowinds when it was under Paramount and the Afterburn Rollercoaster was Top Gun! Also loved the Goldrusher & Intimidator. Thanks for the vid! ❤
Planned a trip with the family for this park in August…It’s going to be our first time out to Carowinds and I’m super excited to experience this place! Thanks for the informative video.
I used to operate the sky tower years ago along with some other rides that aren’t there anymore. The log flume and riverboat are a couple more rides. I also was a lifeguard for years there. 🙂
Just a slight factual clarification...the first flight took place at Kitty Hawk, near Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina on the Outer Banks. Not Wrightsville Beach. It was indeed by the Wright Brothers...Orville and Wilbur Wright originally from Ohio. This is why NC license plates say "First in-flight!"
Carowinds is such a great park! Definitely one of the best in the country. The new flight themed area looks great! One downside is that their boo blasters is really out of shape and desperately needs some reapirs
You should come to see Lagoon in Farmington Utah! It's been a place I have loved since I was a child. They have a wonderful Pioneer area with antique items! They also have a historic caroselle with handcarved horses!
My hometown theme park! That whole area where the Hurler is used to be Wayne's World and that jukebox restaurant used to be a Stan Mikita's. The song Dream Weaver used to play all throughout that side of the park!
The light gun haunted dark ride seems to have almost identical props to the Scooby Doo Ghostblasters Ride that used to be at six flags Fiesta Texas. I'm guessing the same company built almost identical attractions
Interesting new rides in the Flight-themed area indeed! You should do an interview with a person who creates these new rides. Would love to know how these are dreamt up
I love your channel and your child like wonderment my uncle was just like you never loose it Jacob and I think Jen is so sweet and beautiful I enjoy it when she is with you on your adventures she adds alot to you show ,and I'm sorry I laugh when you are screaming you lungs out on the rides I love it !, keep entertaining us I would never get on any of those rides lol
I'm also visiting the Carolinas at the moment. So disappointed in myself that I missed The Carpet bagger as I've been going to the park several times a week since I've arrived. If you're still in the Carolinas I'd love to meet up.
Hi Jacob 👋☺️ Carolina in my mind 😊 good that its celebrating the anniversary 1973- 2023 the amusement park, my middle brother will be 50 in August 9th. Thanks for sharing it looks fun there Jacob 🙂 you take care my friend.🙏📸
This just came to my head. How does somebody walk in that park with their phone out because Google has this feature to tell you that you entered another state so If my brain processes this right, your phone will be constantly going off saying welcome to South Carolina and then says welcome to North Carolina constantly when you're walking across the park lol xD
Good point, I didn’t observe that happening but it seems like it would be very slow. I know a lot of parks try to stay away from stuff that takes forever to load like “The Spider”
One of my nephews was born in South Carolina... so maybe I can tell him that there's a theme park that is in his birth state, but is part of another state as well!!! I feel bad for him... because early this week, he broke a collarbone... but he shouldn't feel bad, because when I was a baby... I rolled off our couch and my mom tried to catch me, but was too late and I ended up with a broken collarbone!!! Me and my mom don't remember if it was my left or right!!!
I get it Jacob you have 4 feet @2:24. LOL. As always great video. TY Jacob. A little FYI, where I am from the term Hurling, hurl ect.. was being used way before Wayne's World.
Absolutely remember that whole area themed after Wayne’s World when it was first made. They had the mirthmobile sitting out front wrecked into a hydrant spraying water in the air. The queue theming for the Hurler was so weird, an abandoned doll factory with dismantled doll bodies & heads on conveyor belts. Used to be the roughest coaster I’d ever ridden, but they have made vast improvements on it.
Carowinds is owned by cedar fair since 2006 which owns all the six flags parks. In 2011 it bought 61 acres to expand which took it into North Carolina. It has a lot of rides from the old geauga lake park in Ohio which was closed in 2007.
All I think about is how do the taxes work? First, entry. Is it spilt amongst the states? Next, purchases within the park. Do you have different tax rates for food or beverages in the different state? What about property tax? Is one cheaper than the other? Is it more beneficial to build additions in one state than the other?? 😂😂😂
I saw this in my feed and my excitement is immeasurable. Glad you had a good time at Carowinds.
Rosebud. Awesome to hear you say that again Jacob

I miss the Thunder Road wooden coaster at Carowinds!! I'm glad my daughters got to ride it before it was demolished. Keep up making the great videos!

Wow Nice I hope you all have a great time
My home park. I have been several times since the early 70's. Love this park. Fury and Afterburn are the BEST!!!!
I can’t go to these parks much anymore but watching you go Jacob is the best ❤
That big green and blue coaster is Fury 325 excellent coaster and my favorite at Carowinds.
The best coaster on the planet
How can you go to Carowinds and not ride Fury?

Thank you for showing Carowind Amuement Park it was neat to see
I love carowinds!
Awe we just missed you. We were there for a whole week but left to drive home on Friday 😢

Never knew about this Park thanks for showing me Jacob 😊
How??? Look up Fury 325 it’s the tallest lift hill on a coaster in the entire world!!! And it’s a carowinds

North and South Carolina unite in fun
I want to visit this park someday. It's been on my list for a while now. When I finally get there, I'll be too damn old to ride the coasters.
That was fun, thank you for allowing me to visit these places with you. I'm just too old to be able to do it but you are the next best thing...
Hope to see you and Jen at Scarowinds!!!! Love your channel
If interested in Caresels, next tine you are near Cedar Point, look up the Merry-go-round Museum close to downtown Sandusky.
I take it, that the taxes are the same for each state. Otherwise the venues would be confusing!
Love your amusement park vlogs, they are so amusing how brave you are🐾😎be safe on the road🎈
Thanks Jacob. I was there the first year Thunder Road opened. Some of the coasters now are too intense for me. lol

When Carowinds was Paramount Carowinds, it was Scooby Doo themed!

They have some crazy rides there 😊😮❤
The passport comment on the swing, killed me 😂😂😂😂
The Intimidator is named after Dale Earnhardt
Thank you Jacob for posting this. I'm going to the park on June 19th and now I know what to expect with the new section looks awesome cannot wait
Oh geez...I haven't been to Carowinds since the mid 1980's.
I was there recently because our middle school band played at their festival of music
Maybe they are going to fix the seat issues on The Vortex so they're more comfortable 😸
Your reaction to The Vortex... hilarious! 😂
Always love your Style Man! Thanks for bringing us along, once again..

I saw the one in Charlotte from an airplane once. It was awesome!
Pilot Mountain NC became Mount Pilot for The Andy Griffith Show, with Mayberry coming from Mount Airy, NC.

Just hasn’t been the same since Paramount sold the park and all the licensing was lost. Listening to Danger Zone in line for Top Gun was amazing.
You had to pass 10 mins from my house otw to Carowinds...lol

I WAS THERE THURSDAY TOO
I would love too go too this park
I went in 1986, got to go on the Steamboat and Monorail, Thunder Road, and Smurf Island

I think it makes more sense for Carowinds to serve Pepsi since it's partially located in Pepsi's home state.
