Laurel is a powerhouse in the mosaic community. She has created a curriculum in mosaic art techniques and interdisciplinary creative practice, including industry-leading training in the creation of architectural and public art installations and the business of art for artists, teachers, tradespeople, community advocates, and arts professionals.
Laurel continues to foster education in the arts through teaching and speaking worldwide. She is the founding director of the Global Mosaic Project. This organization provides art education and professional development training to communities around the globe through specialized curricula and the creation of socially engaged art. Through her work with the Global Mosaic Project, she has spearheaded programs in community-based public art, social entrepreneurship, craft development, and teacher training in the US, West Africa, Haiti, and Rwanda. She has trained thousands of students, volunteers, artists, teachers, tradespeople, and community members in creating projects that contribute to environmental beautification, economic development, and creative place-keeping.
