Back in 1998 The Pioneer 15" Subwoofer in my Ford Escort did the same thing. I got in the car one day, started driving off, flipped the power switch to turn the system on, and BRBRBRBRBRRBRBRBR!!!! Only, it was a 15" sub...…...hooked to a 1,000 watt amp. Needless to say, it was LOUD!!!!! The problem was my fault. When I built the speaker box (s single sub bandpass box) I used those black plywood decking screws. Evidently I did not run my wires inside the box correctly and one had been vibrating on the point of one of those screws. So it caused the amp to go haywire and create that sound. More or less a short in the speaker wires. Not saying that a short was the problem with those Bose speakers, but I cant say it was not. Glad you got your money back! For what it's worth, I have always been a huge Pioneer fan, and uncle Pat was a Bose fan. At one time both he and I had 500 watt home theater systems. Mine cost me about $500'ish from Sears, his cost (supossedly) about $2,000. I could not hear any real difference between the two. For dang sure not a $1,500 difference! hahahaha! I had a Bose Wave radio for many years. (lost it in the divorce) and it was really cool though. HUGE sound from a tiny little radio. The Wave radio commercials did not lie. So I will give Bose a thumbs up for that product anyways. lol
I sent a long reply just to find out it never went through lol. Anyway, never knew you were so into sound/speaker stuff! And that experience you had with your subwoofer sounds terrifying. Was the sub still usable after that?
@@rosiemoto3052 yes it all survived. Once I replaced the bad wire and relocated that stupid screw AND properly attached the interior wiring everything was back to booming! hahaha! That was the one and only "big" sound system I ever had. All Pioneer. The 1992 Dodge Dakota that I had from 1994 to 1996 had a Kenwood head unit, Alpine 550 watt 2 channel amp running the pair of Infinity 10" subs each in their own compact behind the seat boxes. And a Pioneer 200 watt 4 channel amp (for the 4 6" round speakers) Though not as much LOUD DEEP bass, it was a extremely clear sounding system.
Rosie the speakers have got a short circuit. Disconnect one at a time to find out which one. If the sound goes away when you disconnect one at a time in both speakers, one is wired backwards. If you fix the problem they are good speakers.
I might try that; I haven't tried disconnecting the left speaker (the right speaker is the amp, left speaker connects to it). Past that, I'm not qualified in any way to fix wiring.
Oh man tbh I'm not sure. The Bose seems to have a sorta sentimental/nostalgic value and good sound whereas the other ones don't. However, it's never bad to try new things. I'd say try out the bookshelf ones!
Bose has done a lot of research in optimizing cabinets in neat ways. if yours are shot, look inside. Bose is also more $ but are top of the line. imo not worth the extra money but no other product does sound quite like them, across their whole line
Do you play a fender jazz? I don’t even play bass and I want one of those beauties. Addendum: I actually live within 2 miles of a Fender Manufacturing center here in Corona, California. On the front side of the building where you enter on either side is a telecaster headstock and a Stratocaster headstock about 10 ft tall made of aluminum. I had a job on the same street ( railroad) and I would always look in awe at that magical Fender factory. If only I could enter and take a long peek haha. So when you look at you’re made in USA Fender guitar, know that I was close by haha, it’ll say Corona, California
Bose is way way overrated. Keep in mind all the cheap self powered speakers are going to be Class-D which gets fatiguing to listen too. If you have an A/B amp I could recommend a few passive speakers. They're inefficient so it takes more wattage to drive them but bookshelf speakers have to be inefficient if you want base. That or you need to add a sub...
It's all about the Bass, bout the Bass, bout the Bass, No Treble ...
good to hear your voice rosie and u r ok

used electronics rule of thumb - not always a good idea. hope you get things sorted out!
about 5 or 6 years ago I found these at a sale at a 50% discount. so 50€ instead of 100€.
