Easy way to press - materials are lots of newspaper, heavy weights (like big books), heavy cardboard cut to size (the kind that has airspaces, very important). On flat level surface place 2 pieces cardboard, several (10+) sheets newspaper, arrange specimen, several (10+) sheets newspaper. Repeat all above until specimens done. Put cardboard on top, then put several lbs. weight evenly on top. 👍

It seems like turning the strap 90° across the ribs would provide the best weight distribution and be better for the press.
