Maine Barn Find sitting for 53 Years 1931 Ford Model A pickup

  • We found another one. This time, it's a pickup. That's right. We're dragging another derelict Model A from a Maine barn after decades of hibernation. This 1931 Wide Bed pickup was parked in 1970 and was slowly buried. With a little work, we got it dug out and dragged out. In this video, we'll give it a good looking over and see what we're working with.

    kool old PU. Can you imagine 93 years ago, that thing started it life as bunch of parts move through the assembly line and the hands that put it together. The workers never knowing what was to come of it. The paint/chalk marks behind the seat back denoting some kinda code to the rest of the line. Kool core. Be well.

    Love the truck, and I totally agree with your plan for the project. One more thing I might suggest would be to look at, and correct as needed, the mounting of the bed. It looks either low at the cab, or high at the tailgate.
    I suppose it could be an illusion due to the camera lens, but it makes the truck look broken.
    Can't wait for more on this build!

    I like the direction you`re going with it focusing on drivability. Similar to the other Matt at Seattle speed shop. Adding a downdraft carb, better distributor and possible a later sycor tranny. would add to drivability. I`m subscribed

    The white box you found in the side pocket marked 20-0-20 is an ammeter! The Grose Jet is a replacement float valve for the carburetor that's an "improvement" over the original, supposed to be less likely to stick.

    • @Maine_A_S

    • @Maine_A_S
      @Maine_A_S  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Are you looking to stick with the straight axle? Pete and Jakes offers quality front end kits if you want to buy it all in one package. Be careful of the cheap kits out there. Some of the cheap axles are actually cast and not forged. You don't want a cast axle. If you're looking for IFS, companies like Total Cost Involved or Heidts are a good place to look. I like to reuse original ford parts as much as I can but it is a lot more work.

    Hey , what a lucky find!! There is so much character as it is. You're on the right track to get it running and driving. I have a 29 phaeton, also from a barn in Maine. It was repainted 50 years ago. I like the "age" it's taken on. I don't have room for another A, but if I did, I would get a pickup with patina and letter it with "Olizum" graphics. Do you have a lead on some decent 29 headlight buckets?

    I might tell the family that the may need those parts some day. But maybe they don't have the space for everything anyhow. But also, the amount of buyers for Model A parts just isn't there anymore. That's what I've found with parts I've been trying to sell.

    • @Maine_A_S
      @Maine_A_S  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The #1 thing that I have learned when it comes to selling things is that the seller has to be willing to ship. There is a buyer out there for just about everything but they are seldom within a reasonable driving distance.

    • @user-kf7nz6pz8l

    • @Maine_A_S
      @Maine_A_S  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maine is pretty lenient with antique cars. They don't use titles. You can register it as an antique and they will let you use license plates from the same year ad the car. They are not subject to yearly safety inspections like regular vehicles. The antique reg is intended for parade and show use but it's not really enforced. As long as you don't abuse it and drive the cat every day, it won't be an issue.
