    We really are in a golden era of good guitars for not a lot of money....this was impossible when I was first getting into guitar many moons ago.

      I remember those days...decent guitars were super pricy!

    • @m1nnefr3d

      Yup, I agree. Guitars on a ridiculously low budget are all around. My recently bought Harley Benton TE-20 MN no exception.
      But not everything is now more affordable: Got me a brand new Squier Strat which was made in Mexico (!) back in the late eighties for just below 400 Deutsche Mark. Fender is now asking € 649 for an entry-level MiM Stratocaster over here (with a usable floating 2-point trem and state-of-the-art branding, I admit), the equivalent of 1,270 DM.
      Nice presentation, Jason 👍🤘💪 Great music store, too. With the downside of being way out of reach 😉

      1 year later and wood prices have driven guitars prices up like crazy. The esp I got in 2020 has gone up by 20%.

      It’s pretty amazing what’s available now at a very affordable price. Some my disagree, but Jackson makes some fantastic guitars that won’t break the bank (JS series) and still gives you all the bells and whistles of the pricier models. A buddy of mine swapped out the pickups for some Seymour Duncans on the same model and it sounds incredible. Total cost for the guitar and pickup swap was actually under $500 🤘. Thanks for doing these videos! These are really informative.

  • @aptfx
    @aptfx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    The Ibanez Gio series always was a great recommendation for low budget guitars. Nowadays there are certainly more options. The time where you cut your hands on the frets of cheap guitars are over. As a leftie I appreciate that Ibanez offers left handed guitars in that price range. Mine got new pickups (Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz) and I did block the floating tremolo with a piece of wood - gives more contact to body and therefore more sustain. It makes it hold its tuning much better - particularly when quickly tuning to drop-D and back to E standard. Tuning stability is one point where cheaper models differ from higher priced ones.

    • @jasonstallworth

  • @ramaynard77
    @ramaynard77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Wow, very nice playing! This proves that it's more about the fingers than the guitar. Each guitar sounded different - but they all sounded good, and I can't really say which one I liked best... because they all sounded awesome - thanks to your fingers and the amp probably more than anything.

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's definitely a valid point! You'll notice dudes like Slash, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and many others...they could play through any guitar, or amp for that matter, and you'd still know it's them because they have developed their own signature sound and style. And that should be our ultimate goal!

    Hey man, I use an old Charvel I bought from my friend. I got the bridge pickup replaced with a Kent Armstrong pickup after buying it. Even though I bought it for a cheap price and it's rather beat up, the tone gets BRUTAL and it works great! Some intonation problems but I work with it. Just to show you don't necessarily need something crazy expensive.

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just got an Omen Elite-6 hardtail as my first electric ($500 new). Compared to the regular Omen-6, has upgraded pickups and nut, a five-way switch with different single coil options, and different aesthetics. That's honestly my main reason for upgrading since I think they look really nice. They have transparent pickups with the coils visible and I really liked the blue. Though there's also the Damien Elite-6 for the same price that has matte black and bat inlays that also looks really cool.
    Another nice thing about the Schecters is they have lefty versions and also 7-string versions (only $50 more).

      @@jasonstallworth the guitar center by me has really been going downhill the last few years. None of the older guys who know their stuff work there anymore and it's a bunch of young hipsters that work there. It looked like they were going out of business when I walked in there. You'd think because it's guitar center they'd have a bunch of inventory and product but they don't yet.

    Awsome video jason.i think at the end of the day u paying for what u get.if someone's gonna go cheap on electric guitars then I would suggest changing the pickups bcos that's where the real deal comes in.for metal I would recommend (Seymour Duncan black winter pickups)or EMG.both are great pickups for metal.and last but not least the boss M-T2 metalzone distortion pedal.then you good to go.🤘🏻

    • @lsu1992
      @lsu1992 ปีที่แล้ว

      By comparison, I snagged a used 2004 Jackson DKMG (MiJ) with a back-bowed neck for under $400. Found a Dinky FF reverse-headstock 24-fret neck and swapped my piranha neck and the EMG-HZ set straight up. Opened up the bolt holes in the body and installed neck with counter sunk steel inserts and brass bolts, file 13'd the LP bridge and put on an OFR including the posts and locking nut, added heavy black Grover tuners, and wired in the EMG 81/85 HB set with the original Turbo Boost. All told, I added $400 worth of harware. With a touch of neck relief, and .75 shims, the action is ALMOST as low as my neck-thru Charvel and SL3, and the sustain is well within ballpark of them also.
