    You dont get a tracking number but if you wait at the counter and get the sticker, the postal code will be on the receipt and is good enough as proof that it was shipped.

    Also a tip. Instead of using $1.94 & $1.30 to makeup $3.19 stamp price, you can use 3x $1.07 stamps. It might not be a big deal because you only save a couple cents but if you ship primarily with stamps it could save you in the long run. From what I recall though, I don't think they sell $1.07 stamps online for some reason so I had to go into my local shoppers to buy them but you can get them in a coil of 50 so it's not like you have to go back all the time.

    * I just came across your video, I’m sure you have corrected this info already*
    I work for Canada Post, your info is very accurate for shipping within Canada. Letter mail going outside of Canada on the other hand whether it be standard or oversized though can only be “paper products”, anything other than paper needs to go via small packet either surface of Air, with an attached cn22 customs label attached. Sure you may have got away with popping it in the mailbox before and it gets to its destination, but CPC is cracking down and RTSing items not following proper shipping procedures. FYI small packet international often tends to be cheaper than international lettermail when you go over 200g.

    0:41 Those are permanent stamps (usually sold in books of 10) currently worth $0.92 each. If you buy a regular stamp individually, it will cost you more ($1.07 currently). There is no advantage to mailing your letter with a stamp bought individually, even though it costs more. Another thing about permanent stamps is that the value of any unused permanent stamps you have will also increase in value when stamp prices go up. Moral of the story, always buy permanent stamps. Bonus info: When stamp prices do increase, they tend to increase in a way that two permanent stamps plus one ten cent stamp consistently send an oversized letter under 100 grams, both before and after the stamp price increase. You can currently buy $0.10 stamps online. Before the pandemic you could buy them at any post office as well. It's possible that brick & mortar post offices have gone back to selling the $0.10 stamps again, but I haven't checked in quite some time, since I have quite a few on hand still. Hopefully I explained everything well enough & hopefully this helps someone. Those pennies (...err, I guess nickles now. RIP Canadian penny) add up when you're sending out a lot of mail.

    Just a note that although sending an item like a video game as an oversized letter is allowed within Canada, non-letter Items being sent from Canada to a different country must be sent as a parcel, and a customs form must be filled out. They don't tend to mind very small, flat, low value things like a patch or a tea bag, but sending larger value or bulky, non-letter items as an oversized letter to another country is a no-no.

    I spoke to a manager at Canada Post on the best combination of stamps to use to get exact change for these two combinations. $1.94 (under 100 grams) = two .92 cent stamps and two 5 cent stamps. For $3.19 (101-200 grams) use two .92 cent stamps, one 1.30 stamp and one 5 cent stamp. There is only 3 stamps you need to buy to make both combinations and the amount is exact in both cases. The .92 cent stamps are $1.07 individually or .92 cents if purchased in a roll or buy via Costco you get a roll for even cheaper (100 for $88.20). Note that the 5 cent stamps are being taken out of circulation so stock up now!

    I cannot figure out for the life of me why CanadaPost wont let us print out letter mail labels from at home. Sometimes you have multiple envelopes that weigh between 50-100g destined for the US or international. The cost for this is $3.19 - $6.39 and requires you to either stack stamps (because CP doesn't make 3.19 or 6.39 stamps) or go to the post office and have them print out the labels for you. Ive been running my own business for a few years now and every time I think of this I get unreasonably angry.

    Hi although your video is year old are you still able today Feb 22 2022 to mail that DVD or other thick items that are not paper to USA as an over sized inside a bubble mailer??. Reason i ask this is now many sellers including my self are having packages returned back and label attached from Canada Post that it can no longer be sent as regular mail. Both thin and over sized is considered regular mail and now Canada Post is flagging and now request that it must be sent as a SMALL PACKET with a Customs online form filled out then printed and attached to envelope and from that $2.25 cost now goes to about $8.00 to $10.00 having to ship as Small Packet. let me know if are having this issue or is it still good and when was last shipment you sent as those getting returns now was sent out on Jan 30/31 Feb 1 and 2 as it does take about 2 weeks for package to return to sender

    • @common_lad
      @common_lad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s correct. Any package outside of Canada now can not be sent as lettermail unless it is paper as it needs a customs form. You might still be able to get away with it sometimes but they want it sent as small packet. Which in most cases for us has actually been more cost effective.

    Funny story. I sold a steelbook game and I was so scared because the buyer wanted it shipped to Spain. Although I charged $15 CAD for shipping which covers 200g or less, I looked up the price to ship internationally and my heart sank when I saw that shipping over 200g was gonna be around $23 CAD, more than what I made for the game. So I went to the post office with the game to try and see how cheap I could get it shipped. The worker weighed up the game and sure enough it was over 200g so I was preparing for the worst. However, the worker said that because it was a video game and not printed matter I had to send it as a parcel. It ended up only costing me $11 CAD! She ended up saving my ass cause I guess she didn’t quite understand the rules of shipping. Had I had the game already sealed up and ready to go, I would’ve paid the $23 CAD.

      What I was getting at was that I would’ve sent it as oversized letter mail like any other video game I’ve sold, but because I was inquiring about the rates, she made me send it as a parcel which ended up costing a lot less. Commonlad’s point about how it can be cheaper to ship via parcel internationally is what connected the dots for me.

      @@bostitchrider2026 just because you’ve gotten away with it in the past doesn’t mean you SHOULD be doing it. The rules regarding exporting items are very clearly laid out. It’s unfortunate that the clerks at your local post office don’t know the rules, but that doesn’t surprise me. Most postal clerks (especially in authorized dealer post offices) do not receive the necessary comprehensive training and it’s nearly impossible for them to know all the rules. I’m a postal clerk myself who has been working for nearly half a decade; I’ve read the postal guide from to back as well as Canada Post’s 1100 page Retail Operations Manual and I’m still learning new things all the time.
      EDIT: After re-reading your comment I have a feeling you may be confused; there would be no need to inform the clerk of the value of the item if you’re sending via Lettermail. If you’re giving them the value of the item, they’re likely entering that value and processing it as a parcel.

    Here is NB CP charges $1.94 up to 100g and $3.19 100g to 500g. That sheets shows different pricing?Over 500g might as well go tracked packed as it’s pennies more.

      $3.19 is only the rate for domestic Oversized Lettermail weighing between 100 and 200 g. The price goes up with each 100 g to a maximum of 500 g.

  • @theslotbox
    @theslotbox 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    January 2024. NOTE: Not all the information in this video is accurate. 1) Stamps with "no visible postage rate" carry a value of .92 when applied to Oversize Lettermail (not $1.07) . 2) You can send all sorts of items as Oversize Lettermail WITHIN Canada - BUT when sending OUTSIDE of Canada, it can only be paper. Items like jewelry, Dvds, etc... will require a customs declaration and be sent as a parcel service like small packet or tracked packet. 3) You cannot buy Oversize Lettermail "Postal Indicia" ahead of time for later use.

    Hey, question. So let's say stamps are $1 and I'm shipping a bunch of cards in a bubble mailer. My total weight is 195 grams. This is an oversized letter and on the canadapost website it says 100-200 grams is $3.19. Does that mean that each stamps covers $1, so if it's $3.19 I need 4 stamps?
    Can I just put 4 stamps on it and mail it myself from the mailroom in my condo or do I always have to go to the post office to mail stuff?

    • @common_lad
      @common_lad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. In that case your price is correct, however you could also use $1.94 stamp combined with $1.30 stamp which would also be enough to cover it and you wouldn’t be wasting as much money. Then you can just drop it at any Canada Post pick up box.

      According to the rules laid out by Canada post you are not to send hard goods(like dvds, games
      Etc.) as lettermail to usa or internationally. Those items require a customs form and must be processed at the border as parcels not letters. Some people are getting away with sending them as lettermail only because their local postal employees are not aware of the rules.

We dont go to the post office anymore at all, we just print our own stamps and pay a low monthly fee but also pay lesser per stamp.
