It's a pretty common chord and melody progression. I think I've heard it in the church's psalmbook even.

Well Petrucci has said that Hemispheres was his favorite album so probably

They are big fans, and many musicians accidentally writing something very similar to music they love in the back of their head.

I don't think they are THAT similar. It's far from being plagiarism. I agree with most of your videos but this is too tough. By the way, I think Never Enough sounded a lot more similar to a Muse song than this to that Rush song.

"Never Enough" is a clear plagiarism of "Stockolm Syndrome". Even the guitar solo section is the same!

the intro of the one who helps to set the sun is exactly like the acoustic riff that sounds in minute 5:26 in the The Fountain of Lamneth of Rush

I'd say more the singing melody than anything.
Dream Theater have great respect for bands such as Rush and you know it.

Dream theater have ripped off pretty much every other prog band at some point. This isn't the only example

    The beginning is somewhat identical.
    Middle part not so much.
    End actually is very familiar.
The hard panning made it easier to understand.

A somewhat ironic situation for me because Rush's Hemispheres is my favorite album in their catalogue and The Astonishing is my least liked (or should I say the "most unliked") album in Dream Theater's catalogue. So I guess, in this case, imitation is definitely NOT the highest form of flattery.... at least in my opinion!

Hemispheres, 2112, and Moving Pictures are usually considered to be their best albums. I think it was actually Permanent Waves that got me into the band though. That one has some pretty catchy songs - Spirit Of Radio being an obvious one, but also Free Will and Entre Nous.

Oslam Phoenix I really love A Farewell To Kings as well.... I love putting on 2112, A Farewell To Kings and Hemispheres back to back.... to me, those three records encapsulate Rush at their finest hour. What came before 2112 was great, as well as what followed Hemispheres... but this period from 2112 to Hemispheres, to me, is the quintessential period of Rush's career.

It’s funny, O Brother was easily the worst song on Astonishing (I actually like the album, but some of DT’s absolute worst songs are on it),, but this moment from Rush is one of my absolute favorites from them.

Wow Yes does have similarities. Wanna see a better one? Listen to dream theater song The X Aspect. And compare to Genesis song HORIZONS.

and if you knew anything about music, you'd know that both are likely a tribute to Bach's prelude in C major
