There is a huge difference between a Pro and a TH-camr teaching these songs. Mr. Raines is a smooth Professional Guitarist, and gets the sound and licks spot on! Thank you for posting these lessons. You are a great player with an authentic Southern Rock/Country sound. Hats of to you Sir, Thank You! Again, Thank You!

Another great video. I didn’t see this one coming. lol .. I’m a Gary fan, so I learned the dobro solo because I thought Ronnie was saying, “Aw, Gary, play me some dobro”. Turns out he was saying Barry (Harwood).

Yep. Good ol Barry. He is a dear friend. Love that guy. And a heck of a player (of pretty much any instrument).

This helped me through a long night tonight at work. I’ve always liked both versions of this song, but Steve Gaines gave this song new life. I’ve heard it said before and I agree, he was an extremely underrated guitarist. Thanks Scott, keep the videos coming!

He wasn't underrated to anyone who knows anything about guitar playing.

It's true, he's probably the least known in terms of Skynyrd but I'd put him second only to Ed King

In the world of popular music, as in non guitar playing music lovers, Steve is very under rated and under valued.

Right hands separate good pickers from great pickers. You got some hybrid picking going on that is crucial in this tune. A camera angle showing your right hand would be awesome.

If there ever truly - truly was - an under rated guitarist, its Steve Gaines. Steve Gaines breathed a whole new life into Lynyrd Skynyrd. Ronnie Van Zant said, "In ten years, we'll all be standing in his shadow." Not only was Steve Gaines a virtuoso at flat picking and chicken picking, he was also a master of slide guitar. And to add to this, he was also a great singer. He sang the lead on "Ain't No Good Life" on the Street Survivors Album. He's one of my all time favorite guitar players and to think he had ALL this by the age of 28.

@@seraines The younger generation doesn't know what it was like to live in the 70s. By 1975, the Vietnam war was over. The troops were coming home. The country was in full celebration mode, the music scene was absolutely on fire with the greatest bands in the history of music with groups in their prime like The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones. On the country scene, Merle Haggard, Jerry Reed, Merle Travis, and Elvish Presley were burning it up. Lynyrd Skynyrd was an embodiment of rags to riches band that started out with the just a dream, desire, and the will to make it happen.
The two darkest days in the American South in the 1970s were the sudden death of Elvis Presley and the plane crash of Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

Scott, you said it all at the beginning, of course Ronnie loved Merle Haggard, they took this song to a higher level, one of my Favorites, thanks for your video and fine job, you have a Great sounding Strat ,Craig Reed claims that he made that Strat for Steve, I bought a Strat from Craig Reed a few years ago when he was making Guitars, It is called the Saturday Night Special,,one of a kind he only made one of these, it plays awesome,I only played it twice, New in a case, It is for sale, Rock on Brother, Cousin Figel

I remember learning this solo over 30 years ago. Being fairly new to chicken pickin' at the time and lacking the technology available these days, it was a monstrouslyi difficult project at the time and I would've given anything for the advantages available to those learning guitar these days. Now, I'm so happy that I was forced to learn by ear for obvious reasons.

Maybe you should talk to Artimus about adding maybe one or two Molly Hatchet Tunes to the set for a tribute to all the lost members of a fallen southern rock band. so many great southern rock musicians are gone, and back in the day, the top two rocking southern rock bands were Skynyrd, and Molly Hatchet. maybe do a cover of Dreams I'll never see to honor Greg Allman and Molly Hatchet. It's a great tune that would honor great southern rock musicians that have died. I hope you consider mentioning this, because fans would love it, and it would be a great tribute to all the great dead southern rockers. peace..

Yowsa. Thanks Scott. You definitely smoked this one. I fooled with this one as well long ago. Couldn’t get those quick double stops or those banjo rolls. I really appreciate you taking time to explain these tunes. It’s pretty humbling to listen close and realize that how I was doing it was actually laughable. Lol. Roy Nichols would definitely approve. 👌🏻👍🏻

Scott, awesome tutorial as ever! Discovering you has helped tremendously on my deep dive of Skynyrd, with them and Duane’s Allman Brothers being my biggest inspirations. Incredible band through and through and I have yet to see someone come close to your ability to recreate their work. I pray you’re doing well and you will be making more videos soon!

One of my very favorite songs by Skynyrd! Always loved this- especially Steve's guitar work. I worked hard to get most of it, but there were some parts I just couldn't figure out- until now, that is. Thanks, Scott, this tune is going right into my bands rotation. I always thought Ronnie mentioned Gary, too, so Michael Curtis taught me something today, as well. Keep 'em coming, man- you are killing it!

If you decided on doing Dreams I'll never see, you could start the song out like the Allman Brothers, then pause right before the lyrics would start, then start playing the Molly Hatchet version. it would be a great tribute that way. Peace..

I think you play these songs better than anybody outside of the original players. I have heard Atimus say that he envisioned a time where maybe Ed would come back and both Ed and Steve would play in the band together. That would’ve been really cool. Maybe in heaven.

Great song. Curious if you’re more interested in the acoustic or electric guitar in that song. Not much happening with the electric guitar. The acoustic is just playing different inversions of the chords, but has some pretty involved right hand picking.
