Emily has identified her jealously of Lorelai a few times! I think of that ep when Richard was sick and Lorelai was helping her with the tax or whatever. Emily lamented how Lorelai is so independent and successful whereas Emily followed the plan to the letter and it all appears to go well until one thing goes wrong, like having to take on a responsibility never usually hers or Lorelai disrupting their plans with her teen pregnancy and so on. The shopping and foodcourt scenes are really revealing of her true mental state, because I reckon actually even when everything is exactly how she wants it to be as per the prescribed way she tries to live by, she’s not truly happy. In the revival Emily only finally find true happiness by letting go of those rules.
Feels almost allegorical of when a person finally accepts being ND or queer or whatever minority identity they were trying so hard to suppress or just appear as NT as possible or whatever, and by accepting who they are and letting go of the wrong labels and rules they find peace. Before that time they may present a bit like Emily, always on the verge of meltdown, easily stressed, not feeling fulfilled or satisfied despite “doing everything right”, very much needing control and safety but never really finding it. ❤
Yes THIS!! All of thisssss. I've had so many conversations talking about how women of Emily's generation did not have the same personal growth and development that women of Lorelais generation and current generations do. They were taught to be wives and mothers and not to think for themselves. Emily's life revolves around her husband and unfortunately its only when he dies that she gets any semblance of her own life and its very different to what she was living before he died. I love love loved her becoming a coastal grandma
As a daughter from an ethnic immigrant household that did rather well, I 💯 get what you said about “mothers pushing daughters to date men based on how it looks socially”. It’s all about the optics.
I always noticed that Emily criticizes Lorelai and her life but is so quick to trauma dump and vent to Lorelei when her supposedly perfect life blows up. Like why is Lorelei the only one who knows about you and your husband's separation? If your life is so stable you should be able to share that with the people in your life. Where are those useless DAR ladies? Why are you forcing it on your daughter? Why don't you have friends to throw you a bachelorette party? As much as she craps on Lorelei, she uses her and her social circle when she's in a pinch. Emily doesn't want to admit that she finds safety in Lorelei's middle-class community. And bless those Stars Hallow women because I wouldn't be celebrating any woman's bachelorette if I'm not at that wedding.
I love hearing about random things in people's lives that theyre excited about, like Christmas trees! A few years ago i got my first one too and its sooo fun. I realized that pretty much anything can be an ornament, as long as you like it and you can somehow get it to hang on a tree. So now i have an excuse to buy small dumb things haha
"lorelai was wrong was going off on sookie" i love sookie but sookie was so getting on my nerves on that episode, she deserved it. anyway i missed ur vidss, ly
Binging the show results in getting Sookie's awful meltdown at the LOTR birthday party just a few hours before seeing her leave Lorelai hanging to shoulder 90% of the actual business development. If anything, Lorelai is usually pretty good at making her thoughts and feelings clear before things get too bad, but her outburst at Sookie rather than her usual "I love you, but need you to step up a bit" style of conflict-resolution is a manifestation of how badly stressed she was.
What a great subject to come back on! Love your insights as always :D Also, I wish I could remember which ep it was when Lor was helping Emily with her computer and Emily finally got drunk enough to admit how envious she was of Lor's life and career.
Welcome back! 😃I just love your Gilmore Girls videos! So excited to see what you have to say about Emily on this season which happens to be my favorite season of Gilmore Girls! Also, congrats on your baby girl! Very exciting time💝
Hey girl!!!! I live for your analysis! theyre so on point and have vocalized my exact feelings on the subject. I knew that something was off with Emily, but your video put a finger on it perfectly. ALso, congrats on the baby-to-be!! Hope you get good health and good rest. Much love.
We missed youuuuu❤ and honestly the scenes with Gran vs Emily give me life. I love seeing Emily getting a taste of her own medicine 😂 i feel bad!! But it's just so satisfying to watch 🙈
Also there was that particular episode when Lorelei goes out with some guy (played by Jon Hamm) and it was a dud of a date. She tells Emily but Emily is so insistent on Lorelei giving the guy another chance and following up with the guy’s mother 🤦
To add to what you have mentioned around the 7 min mark, I also see Emily is scared. Its not just control, her husband had lied, and now he is changing and all without her. They are not good at all on talking to one another. But until that time, they were on the same page. And now she was getting left behind...
I think it's interesting how the GG writers manipulated their very young audience. Nobody in their right mind would want to be a Lorelai, the ultra liberal, independent, single cool mom who can't (not won't - can't) have a functional relationship with ANYONE (romantic or platonic) in her entire life. She can't have a healthy relationship with anyone in her life yet she's to be envied by everyone including her mother because she's a strong independent feminist who don't need no man! Yikes! Hollyweird programming strikes again! A whole generation of young people being programmed with this nonsense. Smh.

I loved that food court scene with Emily

I’m interested in finding some vintage ornaments or some gilmore girls ones or spongebob or strawberry shortcake ones
Yes! Im all in for buying small dumb things. Love it 😂
I know some people that buy little things from their travels and use it as ornaments. A beautiful way to reflect on your life and celebrate it.
Missed your videos so much. Thank you so much for all the work you put in for us 🫶😊

I believe it was after Richard's mother died.
Welcome back, queen.

Happy to see you back! Well done 😊

I love your videos, and I love the depth you go into on Emily/s character. Also congratulations
Happy to see you again!!
i love all of your deep dives be in SATC or GG. I hope to see more if its not taxing on your health.

Great to see you again🎉🎉🎉🎉
You are the only person who's opinions I agree with on Gilmore girls. There are so many bad takes out there lol
I missed you! How's pregnancy or soon to be mom life like???
Congratulations! 😍
Ahh congrats on the pregnancy blessing & love 4 u & your family
I’m sending you love and a great year❤
Ooo I’m early 🥲❤️
Oh yes totally the reason emily and lorelai the first don't like each other is because lorelai talks down to Emily 🤔
The same for Lorelai. They both wanted what the other had but they couldn't say it.
