I went to that Jamboree. There was so much going on you really couldn't do everything you wanted to. It was a fun experience.... but it was SO freaking hot. I remember our shoes were sticking to the new asphalt that had been laid down on the roads inside the base few weeks before. It was sweltering.
I was also there. What a great experience. The downpour and river flowing under my tent in the field we were camped is something to remember 😂. Troop 422 Enumclaw, Wa.
I was the Rockland County [NY] Jamboree Troop Chairman.. We sent one troop (which included my son) and we laid out a pre-Jamboree itinerary that included the White House, a private tour of the Capitol by our House Representative staff, Friday Night Marine Corps Silent Drill Team, a tour of the Goddard Space Flight Center (as I had been on a destroyer in the Atlantic for the Gemini V recovery mission, I made mention) and the Scouts received a super tour & treat. Then, on the weekend of the big show, my wife and I were accorded the privilege of sitting up front in the natural amphitheater. Four years later, I was VP scouting, and my council sent one troop and our younger son attended. Yup, laid out a similar pre-Jamboree tour.
thanks for sharing I was there weird thing starting around 18:53 your video shows different stuff might have made these videos regional depending where you lived. again thanks for posting brought back many memories.
I was there... and I'm here to say, they made us walk 6miles to see the band The Jets!! ... I felt so ripped off by that. In 1985 those Scouts got to see the Beach Boys, that's worth it. The f--king Jets!!??
Haha maybe. Beats the hell out of seeing former president bush sr., that was the next day after the jets. 1985 was way more relaxed, not all regimented like 89’.
You know how we say that 2013 was not your father's jamboree? Well 1989 WAS your father's jamboree! Haha! Actually, 1989 would have been mine if I could have gone, and my son was at 2013. Video is quaint after having experienced 2013. Was good for its time I suppose!

I was there, with Troop 1326 from Philadelphia, as the 3rd assistant scoutmaster. Had a wonderful time, and this video sure brings back the memories!
Great video! I worked on stage crew there, had the time of my life.

You’ve got to admit Elizabeth Wolfgram was a babe back in the day. I’d walk a couple miles to make her smile 😊
