Just had an ortho follow up for my son's mpfl reconstruction and this was exactly the set of exercises recommended to us as we set up PT for the next few months. I'm excited to show him this video for the morning set of reps. Thanks for a great video!
It's coming up on my 2 years after total knee replacement. I went to physical therapy for a couple of months, but I didn't really understand the importance of strengthening my quads, despite my physical therapist emphasizing this, and although I walked 2-3 miles at least 3xs a week and recently started going to the gym. I've been having this nagging, dull pain along the surgical incision and around the side of the knee. My PCP took an x-ray and said the hardware in my knee and the position of the space between my knee was fine, but that I had some atrophy, as a result of week quad muscles, and he recommended that I go to a PT, to work on strengthening my quads. After watching your video, now I understand the importance of building the quad muscles at least three 3xs a week. Thank you for this video. I am going to incorporate these exercises into my routine, and yes, I will be going back to PT to further learn how to build strong quad muscles.
Always good information. I've finally got comfortable standing while pedaling my bicycle. Everything is coming together, just need to work on my speed.
This is most likely because your quadriceps, the muscles of the front of your thigh, are weak still. Continue to focus on the other exercises to continue to strengthen and try again with the straight leg raise exercise every few days.
What can be done if those quad muscles are getting super super tight.?? Possibly due to doing the after surgery exercises 3x everyday. 4 days out from surgery and very unfortunately and 4:18 worrying is that Workers Comp made some bad mistakes so my in home PT won’t start for 2 more days. This was a revision surgery on a failed knee replacement from 5 yrs ago
Tightness is very common, especially in the early stages after surgery. Continue also with your range of motion and stretching exercises. You can also try some gentle soft tissue massage of the muscles and soft tissue, electrical stimulation can be helpful, or some heat or ice.
Typically early on after surgery I recommend performing every day… as your rehab and recovery progresses you can usually decrease the frequency that you need to perform your exercises.
It's been 4 weeks since i had gotten my right ACL reconstruction surgery. I've been on physiotherapy from POD-5. I've been doing the quad exercises since then but i don't really see much difference. I have lost some bulk in right quads and its almost jelly like. I really don't know how to fire it back again? Would really appreciate any suggestions.
Continue to focus on strengthening exercises, increasing the intensity and resistance as tolerated and you will over time start to see the strength and muscle bulk return. It can take many months to really see that return of strength to what it was before surgery.
@@wanderingdaze7018 much better; it took me almost 2.5 months to get back my bulk and strengthen the quads after the surgery. I was v concerned by the slow progress but im glad i was patient with myself.
@@wanderingdaze7018 heyy im doing well now. My strength and bulk started to come back noticeably around 3-4 months post surgery. Got my full range of flexion back last month lol; did my first vajrasana/diamond pose/thunderbolt pose without much pain & that felt amazing. Still can’t jog fast but i will eventually get there!!!
*Sir I have done ACL* *(complete tear)* *reconstruction surgery* . *Last 4months before. I can* *walk without knee brace* . *Now my problem is while* *sitting position i cannot raise* *and bend easily. So... hurting* *also i felt Sprain or upper* *knee tight. please reply sir* *and give some suggestions* 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, this does not offer me enough information to provide specific guidance over the internet. I recommend consulting with your personal physician or physical therapist.
This will fluctuate depending on how far out you are from surgery. Early on I would try doing the exercises 2-3 times per day and doing 1-2 sets of each exercises, but more importantly, focus on the specific advice of your physical therapist as they can identify the most specific impairments for you to work on. Thanks!
These exercises are mainly to help strengthen and activate your quadriceps muscles of your thigh. Check out some of the other videos on the channel for exercises to help increase knee bend. Thanks for watching and best wishes to you!
It will come, continue to focus on consistency with your exercises. Even if you don't feel the muscle is contracting significantly, it is still beneficial and build strength in the muscle.
I had a knee dislocation my knee took out the cast 1 month and 3 weeks ago and the knee won't bend fully i have been doing some exercises it only bends 80 degree when sitting and when i'm standing it is hardly bends and it is painful
I'm sorry to hear this... Going through the dislocation and wearing the cast that long will lead to a lot of stiffness and range of motion limitations. It may take increased time and effort to see improvements in the amount of motion your knee bends, but stay consistent with your exercises and rehab and you will see the most benefit.
I got a knee replacement and it’s been about 7-8 months after surgery and is it normal to still get swelling on the knee and the knee that had surgery on it is smaller than the other any ways I can get that muscle back big and strong?
Yes, it is normal to continue to have some swelling. Usually this decreases in terms of intensity and frequency slowly over time, but may have some "flare-ups" with increased activity. To build back that muscle you just have to stay consistent with strengthening exercises. Focus on weight bearing multi-joint exercises such as squats, deadlifts, lunges, step ups, etc....and progressively build up the resistance and intensity as your body and knee tolerates... okay and recommended to progress slowly.
i just had patella tendon surgery and i’ve been going to pt trying to get my quad to fire again and they’ve been trying to shock it to get it to fire and it doesn’t work hardly at all. Very frustrating that it just won’t fire
Even if you don't feel like you are making progress, you probably are still building strength in the muscles. Continue to stay the course with exercises and other treatment and hopefully you will see a breakthrough soon.
I'm in the same situation currently except I used quadricep tendon used for my reconstruction. I have absolutely no strength in my quad. I can't do leg raises at all because it's so weak and painful
I'm just recovering from knee reconstruction.
The one part my physiotherapist hasn't mentioned are my quads.
Great tips.
Glad you found the video helpful, thank you for watching and best wishes with your continued recovery!

I still cant pedal while standing my weak leg cant push down
@godly_ant2276 keep working on it. It might take awhile
When I lift my leg, it’s not straight at all. I feel I can’t squeeze and raise the leg at the same time.
This is most likely because your quadriceps, the muscles of the front of your thigh, are weak still. Continue to focus on the other exercises to continue to strengthen and try again with the straight leg raise exercise every few days.

How soon after doing my quadcepts repairs surgery i can start doing these exercise ?
Please consult with your personal surgeon and healthcare providers as this answer varies and I can't provide specific medical advice.
Are these helpful after 2 years? My knee started buckling..
Yes, this exercises can still be helpful for building strength in your quadricep muscles.
Am i going to do this everyday or there is interval of days of doing it? Thank you
