The hardness of the air bag is absolutely an OG protection feature. There's a spec pamphlet somewhere that shows there was a clear plate attached to both sides of the outsole that protected the new bigger bubble. I remember being surprised that I couldn't squeeze the bubble back then.
The younger consumers don't understand how legendary these were back in 91. The exposed air bubble on the sole was almost futuristic at the time.......classic but very hard to keep clean, especially the suede part.👍🏿
They were out of this world. So were the commercials. I mean, when you get David Cronenberg and Ind. Light and Magic to do some of them ... But when he says they are like 100% true to the original: The midsole in the forefoot is different.
@christophlentsch2943 You remember that infamous commercial, brings back memories of excitement, shame Nike only release limited pairs, sold out in one day again.
I owned a pair of 1992 OG Olympic Air Force 180s back in the day and remember after 2 years of wearing them I took them apart and the clear part of the 180 rear air unit was part of the outsole and the air bag unit was separate inside it. They were super durable back then and biggest fear was not puncturing the rear air unit but the front air bag unit if you accidently stepped on a sharp rock or object.
I had these for my school shoes in 9th grade. They are the most comfortable shoe I have EVER owned to this day. My mom has a photo of me wearing these back in the day
This is what I've been waiting for! The 180 is such a cool sneaker, even Jordan wore them off-court! Btw, Kilgore actually co-designed this with Tinker Hatfield.
Agree with you about the promo prints. It’ll be massive if they include them in the box for this release. I remember how I fell in love with these back in ‘91 from looking at the prints. Really artful yet technical. Simply awesome. Took a couple of them from a shoe store in Singapore as that was what I could only afford at that time (besides window shopping), and spread them on my desk at school.
Chris is the best! I love that he always gives a rundown on the history/story behind the sneaker. Beyond that, his breakdown of the materials, sizing, etc. is always thorough and super helpful for me in deciding whether I want to spend money on a shoe. Thank you and keep up the great work!
I got put on to the Air 180 a few years ago has I stumbled across a pair at the outlet for $35!!! (my BEST outlet find ever) and I’m hooked, can’t wait to get a pair.
I remember being a young teen drooling over these shoes but couldn't afford them. When they announced they were rereleasing these I had to get them. So happy I got a pair.
@3:30 also David Robinson's AirForce 180 Pumps (1991). the ones with the dial for pumping up the tongue or the collar. I hope I still have mine in storage. I worked all summer for them and they where my first Nike. But last time i checked the mid sole was gone and the dial was missing. Still one of my most memorable things from Highschool. I need to check my storage... :( *The bubble walls was more sturdy that the normal. but you could still push on it. * the Basketball build of it .
Thank you for testing these out Chris! you are THE MAN> Lots of design features in these that also feature in the Huarache. Love the history lesson and the marketing throw back. That's what makes this channel THE BEST.
Got these in 91 by my Parents for Schoolsports. They got cooked fast. Got me the 2018 Version and brought back mad memories. And they are a dirt magnet.
Best balanced review of the 180 retro, not comparing it to todays models, but actually comparing it to the OG,look, comfort, materials. Unfortunately I am old enough to have had the OGs and I confirm the outer air unit was hard and used an outer transparent mould that gave the air unit extra protection. The 180 was designed and moulded around the whole air unit. Can't wait for these ⏰🥵🥵🥵
Reminds me of the time I worked at the shoe department of a large sporting goods store late 80s and early 90s. All these great technologies and sneakers. I wanted these but ended up with the black and blue air Force 180
I have the OG from 1991 brandnew in box and can‘t wait to make a huge comparison post (on IG obvious 😅) but this will be cool. Only thing which sucks on most current pairs like the 90, 95 and this 180 aswell is, that the midsole is get thicker and thicker and not so streamlined as it should be and done over decades 😢. But very happy when these drop next week 🎉 Good Review btw!
really, really liked these shoes back in the day. so when they were going to reintroduce them, I was lucky enough to grab them at a sample sale (may have been 2003, maybe '04).., held on to them for a minute.., then let them go. I knew I wasn't going to wear them so I sold them, hoping someone would grab them, and would wear them.., now they are back again.. good stuff
Been waiting a long time for these to retro again, definite cop. Only thing is I'll need to pre-coat these with some serious repellent to keep them from getting cooked too fast.
I had the original . The air bubble was just like this ! I really like this shoe and being that I had it when I was 19 yrs old I need them at 51 😂! Love the content keep it coming!!
Hey Chris, I had them back in 1991 and I can confirm the bubble was already hard at the time. from what I heard it was made to give client insurrance that the bubble would not be cut or pierced or broken by anything on the ground
Hey guys! I’m for one, would love to see videos of you running down the history of sneakers. For example. The history of the air max one. The history of the air Max 97. The history of the Jordan one high. The history of, the vans old school or skate high. Personal experiences and most memorable moments. I believe this would be rad and very entertaining to watch and listen to.
Thankyou for reveiwing these as an old head i needed you and only you for a reveiw of the 180's in a non hyped manner ,,,cheers guys all the way from Australia ,,oh and we australians love the underrated nikes ,,,air stabs ,structures and many other runners ,,,i woùld love to see nike icarus return and the 91 -92 tailwind ( not sure on the exact name)
Got the retros when they released a few years back. They definitely weren’t what I expected but I loved them. I was really bummed because one of the airbags did in fact pop on me. I was fortunate that Nike refunded me but at that point they weren’t making the shoe anymore so I couldn’t get a replacement pair
Love the technical & historical breakdowns of the footwear, as always! Love how you respectfully ask for subs/likes/comments with how they benefit not only the channel but the new sneakerheads (not hypebeasts) & Love the level of your passion behind Batman 😂 These Air 180s are basically cousin model to the 91 Air Triax Structures and hope to find these on sale down the road! 🫡
Batman, Deadpool, and Deathstroke for deadly mortal Triangle offense of masculinity, Wonder Woman and Thor(Jane Foster) for superpower support, Thena from Eternals off the bench
Will def try to grab a pair of these. Awesome review as always. 🔥 Batman, Superman, Wolverine, Iron Man, Professor X. Sixth Man - Deadpool Villains: Thanos, Galactus, Mister Sinister, Apocalypse, Kang the Conqueror Sixth Man: Darkseid
yes its OG... if u look at the 3d break away design there';s the airbag and then the encapsulation/bottom sole that fits around the airbag/hard plastic/rubber :)
Feeling like 11yo again! Shape is the truest to the original. OG had higher heel construction, was more padded and nylon allover. Bubble is at last the OG Big one! There were tons of copyright issues and NIKE could not make the shoe as it was back in 1991. Air unit was indeed caged to protect it from popping and shoe from flattening while running. Moreover, in terms of comfort, these shoes were a pinnacle. Thanks for the review!
Hi guys You forget to mention the increase size of the air bubble and the point infrared around the air bubble is simply painted when it was solid colour plastic on the originals which would have aged much better. Todays paint on mid soles tend to peel off quite easily unfortunately. Great retro overall 👍
They did a good job BUT...the forefoot midsole is too tall and the bottom air window and sole part looks 'fake' compared to OG spec. Everything else is bang on.
I wanted these as a kid when tbey came out but they was adult sizes only. Now wipl finally be able to get a pair. Coming out Friday 24th May over here in UK 😃😃😃
It's great to see Nike putting in the attention to detail. It'd be nice if that was on every model. As far as the question...instead of a starting five I'm just gonna start World War Hulk and call it good. Thanks for the review. Make sure you get some time off this weekend.
Amazing trainer and one of my holy grails. The colour is amazing and the texture, and model looks great. The air bubble looks good and was ahead of its time
Love that model but not the price point. If, like other previous editions, they sit on the shelves, I will consider buying a pair... Great video as usual 😊
Hello to both of you & T.U. 4 vid. I wanted to buy this pair but in some videos already published and on some sites I noticed that there were the same defects as the Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG "Royal which I returned after delivery. That means too much deformation of the nylon so I'm thinking of keeping my money. So many memories of this pair. 😔 Concerning the presence of the label this does not necessarily mean that the pair has been checked because sometimes the pairs are not clean despite this. At Nike or Jordan, quality control has become a lottery.🤨
this sneaker is one of those guys, that just looks great on the foot. I’d love if they’d reissue the AM Solas, and some of those other 2000/2006 models. PS, you gotta lace these below the tongue so it pops out.
Not to beat stickler, but I love the attention to detail that you give to everything and I hope that you know this comes with all the love, but these are not "Air Max" they're just the Nike Air 180. I believe the last retro of these were marketed as Air Max 180, but the OG and this 2024 pair are just Air 180.
Great review on this one .. always loved this shoe and I’m gonna grab one again. The one shoe I’m trying to get again is the Rebok Court Victory Pump Shoes if you ever review those.
@@WearTestersawesome I played tennis 🎾 all the time in that shoe and the Agassi as well .. if you know where I can find a size 13 in the rebok let me know .. and I’ll look for that video

Yes, absolutely right. I've had these shoes back in '91 and can confirm it came like this back in the day.
Yeah, but the previous re-release (that released 7-8? years ago) has a soft bubble.
@@mymoviefilms yes true
@@mymoviefilms But Chris was talking about the OG release. That's what I was answering.
Yep that is 100% OG

80s/90s had some awesome use of color.
Y'all blew up mah spot. These shoes were completely under the radar until you put this video up. Sold out immediately.
As an “OG” who was around and remembers these from 91’, YES the Air Unit is supposed to be exactly like that(No Pause needed😂)
Brings back so many memory’s from my childhood. Love the old box and the shoe!
Desperately wanted these in the early 90s and there was no way my parents would cop back then. Badass release!
I owned a pair of 1992 OG Olympic Air Force 180s back in the day and remember after 2 years of wearing them I took them apart and the clear part of the 180 rear air unit was part of the outsole and the air bag unit was separate inside it. The nostalgia is real man! 🥹🔥🔥🔥🖤
I had these as a kid. Never thought they would get a reissue. Pretty sure got them on clearance, and that air unit did not feel like air, hard af
I had these for my school shoes in 9th grade. They are the most comfortable shoe I have EVER owned to this day. My mom has a photo of me wearing these back in the day
Been waiting for your review on these!!! Only channel I trust to give me an honest opinion!
Man, I remember these releasing back in the days. The colors and the air block was something so new, as a kid it really made you jump for joy.
…also the Air Force 180 Pump…I know those will never come back…but a man can dream…😢
They need to put those back, 180 pump .how can contact Nike for those ?is one of my child dreams shoes the most I want . Wow I want this shoes 😢
These are actually supposed to be dropping later this year or Summer 2025

these were the best at the time in 1991, I had a pair in blue too and would love to get my hands and nose on a pair of these again!

Been looking forward to these. I hope they are going to be fairly accessible. Such a classic, sounds like they have done it justice.
Every time I see those 180s,they remind me of the air max stabs.
I had actually been hyped up for the Air Max 180 sneaker. I hope to see more colorways!
